not exactly sure, I'm in 11th grade but I told my teacher that what we where doing in class was to easy for me and so he gave me this.
the problem was asking when will the populations of two countries be equal.

Oh, we covered those some time ago last term. I'm a high school junior too, so I still recall it pretty well.
I just had a hard time recognizing it from the way it was written. Use the subscript and superscript tags, or at least the exponent mark.
It's N1 = N0ekt
Where N1 is the final population, N0 is the principal, k is the rate or whatever it was, t is time, and e is... well... e.
And yeah, it's correct.
Final population will be somewhere around 1.73E6.
