"Pardon me for my brash words, but who the crap are you?", asked Janne, arching an eyebrow at the odd newcomer. After a few minutes observation, it became clear to Janne that the man was not exactly sane.
Janne did not feel comfortable around people like this, and his finger got closer to the trigger of his Valmet, as a precaution should 'Scion' decide to get violent with them. Janne glanced at Swift and muttered:
"What do we do with him? he looks like a nutter."
The fact they were facing a possible nutcase as well as standing under a downpour did not improve the situation in the least.

Scion looked incoherent for a second, then responded plainitively.
"Alas, I am no-one. I am here for the sake of..." His right eyelid flickered subtly for a moment "exploration of the zone's..." and stopped "parameters."
He affected a smile, and it appeared more as if a rogue hook had caught the sorner of his mouth and tugged slightly. "I am afraid that I came here with little but my box." He tapped his head and winked.
"Still, methinks this area is relevant to my interests, so I am requesting to accompany you so I may investigate it. I can not say I desire conflict within, although neither am I loathe to accost it should it seem the time to enquire has expired."
The phantom fish hook then fell out and he regained his composure. His tone changed acoordingly.
"...and I assure you, that my composure within such scenarios is purely academic."
Again he froze, although this time, one sensed it was due to an inner need to allow the air of his last statement linger as he awaited their judgement. For some reason, his personal and professional lives seemed to be completely separated, and he wanted to be clear on the fact.

"What do we do with him? He looks like a nutter."
“Clearly,” the woman whispered back, “however he seems harmless… for now anyway… He might make a nice distraction for the bandits in the depot, have him lure them out and then see if we can get one of them to talk.”
“Scion, was it,” said Swift calmly, “ I’m not sure that our reasons for being in The Garbage are related to your...um ‘study’ but we believe that one of the bandits in that building has information we need…your assistance would be very helpful to us.”

(set 1 hour earlier, end of post is in sync with D&O's timeline.) "WHOSE THERE!?" A panicked voice called in the darkness from the middle of the swamp in Agroprom.
"Relax I'm just looking for somewhere dry." Karc called back carefully jumping from one half submerged pipe landing on an old rusting stair case before stepping into the old train carriage. Looking to his right he saw a man crouched pointing a pistol at him. A small gas lantern was emitting a little light in the dank carriage.
"What are you doing here, they're looking for me! I'm serious man, did they send you?" The soldier asked pointing the pistol and waving it in an accusing manner.
"Did who send me? I was poking around looking for artifacts when this rain started." Karc replied watching the man as he looked about, it looked as though he hadn't slept for days. "Look, why don't you have a drink and tell me what the hell is going?" Karc said taking his helmet off and offering the man a bottle of vodka.
Eventually the soldier relaxed taking the bottle and having a few swigs from the bottle. He slurred his story how he'd ran off from a patrol after it had been ambushed by a pair of bloodsuckers in the tunnels under Agroprom, and since then he'd been hiding in the carriage occasionally sneaking out to scavenge food.
Karc nodded to encourage the soldier to continue talking. Shit this guy needs to get out of the zone. He thought as the other man continued rabbiting on about are conspiracy involving him and the army, deciding to go against the original order to terminate the soldier. "I'll tell you what sunshine, I'm feeling generous tonight. Take this money and get the hell out of here." Karc said handing the soldier a small bundle of of about 5000ru. "Don't get yourself mugged by those fucking bandits when you go. Go later tonight, just grab some sleep first."
The soldier took the money shoving it into one of his pockets, nodded his thanks before leaning against the wall of the carriage and was asleep almost immediately.
Turning the old lantern off, Karc put his helmet on and turned the NV on, standing quietly and walking out, he had a second assignment which involved a group of bandits hiding at the old institute. Seven of them in total, the job was to kill the lot and report back to Barkeep as soon as he could. Checking his pistol he attached the silencer he'd been given also attaching the second silencer and the scope he'd found to his assault rifle, creeping towards the institute he crept all the way to the perimeter wall, one of the heavy sheets of metal had been knocked down, there was a lone guard looking about and occasionally walking to different point.
The man was grumbling to himself when one of Karc's knives was buried in his throat. With sickening wrench the knife came out, the man fell silently making barely noise over the sound of the rain and occasionally clap of thunder. Creeping into the yard he could hear the sound of two more men talking walking back to the hole in the fence he noted a ladder which lead to the roof, climbing up he could see into the building, the rest of the bandits were sitting around on both floors some sleeping, others playing a card game.
Looking through the scope he lined up one of the sleeping men who was laying in the corner against the wall fired a single shot putting a neat hole in the mans skull, the silencer making a whisper of the shot. The storm blanketing the sound further, lining up the second man who was sleeping he fired again.
3 down, 4 to go. Karc thought, slinging the rifle over his shoulder climbing down the hatch into the build turning off his NV letting his eyes adjust to the light in the building. Drawing his pistol he crept along catwalk joining the two buildings to the room where the two bandits were playing cards.
He could see further down the stairs where the other two were standing chatting. There was no way to sneak up on the remaining bandits, reaching into a pocket he pulled out a grenade, the pulled the pin lobbing it down to where the two bandits where standing.
As they turned to see what the noise was behind them was, the explosion threw them out into the yard from the force of the explosion, the other two bandits scrambled up grabbing their guns they both ran looking down into the smoking room below.
Karc lined them up and fired, one of the bandits fell down the steps crying out in pain as he landed then went silent, the other slumped to the ground dead. Standing and walking down the steps into the light he looked about the quiet building walking up to the where the sleeping bandits were he found 1000ru on each of the bandits as well a RGD5 Grenade in one of the packs. Dragging the two bodies down the steps he lay the corpses together checking the table where the bandits were gambling, there was 3000ru there, taking that he pocketed it.
As he went to check the the other bandit slumped by the steps he heard what sounded like rugged breathing in the dark, turning on his NV he saw the bandit that had fallen down the steps pointing a Makarov at him trembling, the bandit fired hitting Karc in the chest, jumping back Karc fired his pistol hitting the man between the eyes.
Looking down at where the bullet had hit he stood and looked around for a pair of pliers to pull the 9mm round out of his armor. When he heard the sound of someone running away. "Shit." He shouted running out to the small balcony just in time to see a bandit disappear around the corner of the building.
Holstering his pistol he jogged after the bandit, the man was a lot faster than Karc and soon he was well ahead running towards the road to the Garbage.
Karc eventually caught up, he could see the bandit talking to the guards below, warning them about him.
There goes my element of surprise. He thought, watching the bandit head towards the depot, as the other bandits all took aim at the direction they where expecting him to come from scanning the area. Taking up his SCAR he peered through the scope and lined up a bandit and fired.

(back to current time)
"Well, I am willing to offer my assistance in any reasonable capactiy as I am somewhat..." Scion's eyes glazed over as he struggled for an appropriate phrase "disinclined to the way that such persons operate." His left hand began to quiver noticeably, and he thrust it into his pocket, at which time it could be noticed that he was toying with something with it.
"Though it has been some time since I have engaged in agressive negotiations, the type of which I assume you are obliquely referring unto should be well within my scope." Although it was hard to tell due to the scarf covering his face, it seemed from the crows feet around his eyes that he may have been smiling. What the smile looked like, however, was something likely best left to the imagination.
He shifted his stance slightly to address his inquisitor. "I shall, however, require any information you have about the layout of this facility and the plausible problems we may face therein if I am to be of such assistance..."

"Well we don't actually have any knowledge concerning the layout of said facility...and 'aggressive negotiations isn't exactly the appropriate term..."
And indeed, neither Janne or Swift knew anything about what the inside of the train depot looked like since they had never entered the building. Their PDAs weren't very helpful either.
I hope we won't have to share the reward with that guy if he does manage to help us somehow..., came a greedy thought from the back of Janne's mind.
"...but I'm sure you could give us a hand!"

“Then let’s move out,” said Swift as the group started to make their way to the train depot.
Yet there was something eerie about the depot, there was no sign of movement and it was a silent as the grave. Almost as if no one was home, was this some kind of bandit trap? The female mercenary pulled out of her PDA. To her surprise twelve small white dots covered the area of the map the depot sat on.
“It looks like someone got to the bandits before us,” she said as she put the device away. “What a shame I was looking forward to interrogating one of the bastards”

Scion muttered something under his breath, and ambled forward towards the nearest corpse as if in a daze.
"I knew it...I knew this area was relevant."
His lack of concern about his surroundings was both unnerving and obviously dangerous, but his demeanour showed no signs of outward intuition beyond his fixed gaze on the bodies in front of him. One could suppose he would be able to walk through a horde of sleeping bloodsuckers without noticing their presence in his current state.

Creeping closer to the bandits the three dead guards at the barricade were strewn about the area each with a neat hole in the head. Turning off his PDA and checking the corpses and their packs Karc gathered 3 RGD5 grenades, creeping closer to the depot. It was raining hard now and the guards didn't notice as Karc moved closer and closer to them occasionally they would walk back and forth. Drawing both knives from the seethes strapped to his legs, timing the moment Karc lunged forward as they both turned to see what the movement was and slashed both throats of the bandits.
Stabbing each bandit in the heart to ensure they were dead. He dragged the bodies away. So no one would stumble upon them. Drawing the silenced 1911 he scanned back and forth looking for a sentry, These lazy bandits must think no one would attack them here. He thought, smiling to himself. Creeping to the large door he looked in, most of the bandits were sleeping are group up the other end were sitting around a fire drinking and talking loudly. The sound of the rain on the roof made a enough noise to let him walk about unnoticed. Walking into a train car, he shot two bandits who were sleeping. Stepping out again, he was face to face with a drunk bandit stumbling outside to relieve himself.
"GUU.... Argh!" Was all he managed as Karc smashed the man in the face with his pistol, before shooting him in the head. Some of the other bandits jumped up, others struggled obviously very drunk.
Holstering the pistol and grabbing his assault rifle he fired a burst at the bandits struggling to stand up, hitting a couple they writhed about in pain, running into the room leading up to the cat walk above the depot Karc lobbed 2 grenades close together either side of the clustered bandits watching as they ran from one explosion right into the other.
Seven bandits lay dead, another 3 were injured the other two taking pot shots at Karc from behind cover, bullets and buckshot skating off the metal walls and floors. Crawling along the floor away from where the bandits were shooting at, Karc tried to line up one of them. Unable to get a clear shot. Not wishing to waste a grenade on killing one bandit, Karc continued sneaking along the platform until he was almost behind them, climbing down he grabbed one of the men in a head lock, the other bandit turned without thinking fired regardless of his fellow bandit.
The impact and the sudden dead weight put Karc at a disadvantage making him stumble and fall with the dead bandit's weight he fired again the impact of the buckshot thumped into Karc's armor painfully, shoving the corpse off him, he took a couple of running steps before leaping at the bandit driving the concealed knife into the mans rib and headbutted him taking advantage of the metal mask and helmet. Before shooting the bandit. Rather than reload his pistol Karc walked from bandit to bandit, one of them had bled out, the others were close to death as well. Looking at the shabby condition of the weapons and equipment of the bandits Karc ignored.
Grabbing an unopened bottle of vodka Karc walked back up the stairs sitting down in a dark corner and taking a swig from the bottle. Sitting in the dark he lost track of time, but snapped back to reality when he heard voices somewhere out the front. Moving silently he peered out the window, he could see three stalker standing in the rain discussing something.
He watched as one of the stalkers walked into the depot despite the lack of life, holding his SCAR at the ready. "Can I help you?" He asked in a quiet, carrying voice.

Scion continued to stare at the corpse in front of him, and even went so far as to talk in its direction.
"It would seem, sir, that you already have." He crouched down to inspect the corpse, and began to search through its pockets.
"You have both disposed of an irritant and allowed me further opportunities for study. I would be interested to know your reasonings, however, as many do things for causes separate to mine own."
(I thought I'd say I started searching the pockets so I don't just grab items that may not be there. It's hazy as to whether Karc has already looted them, although I'm aware that usually if it's not written it didn't happen, and also I thought he might throw a fuss about me looting the corpses he made, and so I thought it best to leave it open at this point.)

What the hell is he talking about? Karc thought.
"My reasoning would be that I was given a mission to kill a group bandits, one got away, came here and now they aren't feeling that good. Knock yourself out with the looting, these guys aren't worth the effort in my opinion." Karc replied.
"That's my reason for being here. Now what's yours and what are you studying?" He asked.
As he said that the other two stalkers came in, looking up to where Karc was standing.
"What about you two? What's your brings you where? Studying as well?" Karc asked, leaning forward slightly, noticing the shoes one of the stalkers had one.
Turning his PDA on again he noted that the strange stalker was loner while the other two were mercs.
"What are your names stalkers?"

"Well at least we won't have to deal with the rest of the gang", said Janne flatly. "And to answer your question, I'm Janne, this is Swift and Mr Weirdo here is Scion."
Janne looked over the corpses that were strewn around the yard. They had apparently all been shot by the stalker they had just met, which was quite a feat in itself. None of the bandits seemed to have any interesting belongings however.
Thankfully, the man they were looking for was not amongst the dead, and was thus probably the bandit who had managed to escape the other stalker's clutches. Janne walked back towards said stalker and asked him the following question:
"You say one of them got away...where did he go?"

Wail Janne talked with the other Mercenary, Swift busied herself with looking over the corpses for any information on their target. It Was probably better that Janne handled communications with the local stalkers as her Russian was weak compared to her Finish companion. She would need to brush up on it more if she was going to survive in the Zone for a long duration of time.
However she soon found her search to be fruitless, it seem that the dead Bandit’s PDAs where just like rest of their gear, crap. The only thing of use that she pulled off the bodies was a poorly drawn map of an under ground facility. It was not much but maybe Janne had uncover more from talking with the other stalker.

Karc studied the group carefully before climbing down from the catwalk.
"You say one of them got away...where did he go?" Asked Janne.
"There's a hole in the side wall, that way." Karc motioned with a wave of his hand, "Chances are he went out that way. Fuck knows where he's going now I doubt he'll go to Cordon , he'd be suicidal to try Rostok or the old path to Yantar, a single bandit might survive in Agroprom or he's heading to the Dark Valley. So I'd say one of those two. If you have his name I could help you find him, all bandits have one weakness which you can exploit, money. That or you can shoot them in the leg and threaten to leave them for the dogs."
"What's his story?" Karc asked nodding towards Scion. "What's he studying?"

"What's his story?" Karc asked nodding towards Scion. "What's he studying?"
"We don't know, he just popped out of no where," Swift said as she came back over to the spot that Janne and the other sane stalker where standing, "We never asked exactly what his is studying out here." She glanced back at Scion and thought to herself 'can't say I wan to know either.'
"By the way Janne found this," she said as she handed and let him look over it.
With her back turned to Karc she whispered to her partner, "what are we going to do with these two, I'm not to keen on a four way split of the reward."
