The gray light of early morning was creeping into the disheveled Pripyat apartment. A Freedomer watched as the first light of day illuminated the ruins of the dead city, the Zone might have been a curl mistress but she had been merciful to him last night. The fires of war had started up once more, Freedom and Duty pined for control of the ruins of Pripyat, Bandits and Loners hunted and killed each other, as Mercenaries got rich off the fighting and the Monolithians worked to push out all the others from their “holy lands”. The dead city had descended into violence and chaos, but to Ferret this would always be his home. Abruptly the early morning’s stillness was disturbed by the loud report of a heavy caliber firearm.
“Sounds like someone just got plugged,” he said more to himself then to the resting loner woman who lay on a makeshift bed. He had rescued her from a pack of dogs last night. But it seemed that she had a run in with two-legged scum earlier in that night (Seeing that she had a shotgun slug embedded in her upper leg). He brought her back to the Freedom outpost where the medic looked her over and treated her wounds. At this point he was not sure if she was really a sleep or just pretending to be. He watched her for a moment to see if he had gotten any reaction from her, but she kept perfectly still.
Sighing he moved back near the window and pulled out a sausage from his bag. After cutting off a slice he ate it and watched another bloody day unfold. He hadn’t slept in three or four days but he still felt no need to sleep. He could not sleep in this place; there was just too much going on, he could not let down his guard.
Vorona laid motionless, she was in a Freedom held territory her only knowledge of the faction was from what her brother and the Duty stalkers had told her. According to them Freedom was a volatile mixture of Anarchists and Terrorists that where not much better than the Bandits. Their second in command was also said to be a mutant who was under the Monolith’s influence. They where well armed and very dangerous, she would have to find a way to escape. Yeva opened her eyes slightly; the man that was watching her was by the window eating. If she wanted to get away now would be the best time.
She jumped up and tried to bolt to the door but was stopped short by a strong pain the shot up her leg. As she tried to get back to her feet, the man got up from his spot and crossed the room. She was so sure that he was going to have his way with her, that she was surprised when he helped her to stand back up.
“ You don’t need to worry,” he said calmly as he guided her back to the bed, “Your safe here.”
“I’m called Ferret... I pulled you from a pack of dogs last night and brought you here,” he said awkwardly, “What’s your name and how did you end up in such a mess?”
“-Vorona,” she said nervously, “… I got separated from my group when some bandits tried to rob us…did you happen to come crossed any of my group?”
“-I’m sorry to say, but no,” he said “just you, a few mutants and one too many unfriendly faces…Anyway your free to leave if you want, but I’d recommend at lest staying until your leg is healed up.”
((I just wanted to start up a AU Rp to pass the time until the main Rp get's back on tract. It's a faction war so anything goes, there is no major plot to this thing. However there will be clear territories once we see who is going to be in it.))

The well supplied group of Dutiers made their way north towards Pripyat, the massive structure of the radio factory loomed into view in the north west of the skyline.
“We'll set up there and wait for re-enforcements.” Rurik said to the group, moving towards it.
Entering the complex they found an area inside the main building which was above the ground and full of metal table. “Set up comms along those tables, barricade the entrance, and find a way on the roof.” Rurik ordered, lowering a heavy pack from his shoulders and letting it drop.
The work to turn the factory's office into a fortified base of operations was lengthy but it was a solid building and easily defended, with a long if narrow path leading to the office with a number spare weapons, tools, armour and equipment.
Within the hour patrols were roaming the factories grounds and they had gunners on the roof making the area a relative safe zone. Rurik knew Freedom was out there somewhere, but so was the fanatical faction of the Monolith. They were effectively treading on the Monolith's toes, while they hadn't encountered any real threat during their travel north, the sense they had been watched and were simply pawns in a bigger game.
Pushing these thoughts from his mind Rurik relayed a message to their base letting the recent happenings be known to the base in Rostok and that they could accommodate many more.
Once this had been done Rurik went out with the first patrol of the surrounding area, the desolate area had a sad look to it despite this there was a powerful urge to keep walking, to explore these long abandoned buildings, but the unknown also possessed the peril of discovering a hostile faction or maybe a some dwelling of a dangerous mutant.
Walking along the road and looking down the arrow straightness they saw nothing, save for the rare sighting a mangy mutt or two scamper from hidey hole to hidey hole.
All in all the area didn't seem as dangerous as many had said. But naturally the calm before the storm should never allow one to lower their guard. The distant roar of a bloodsucker reminded them that they were on hostile territory...

Morak was one of the first to Volunteer after receiving Rurik’s messaged. Taking territory that far north would bring Duty one more steep closer to finally wiping the Zone off the face of the plant and saving all of Humanity from it’s horrors. However Vadik had ulterior motives for heading north, he had lost contact with Yeva somewhere around the Red Forest. Her last correspondent said that she was accompanying a small group of loners to Pripyat to hunt for artifacts. That had been two days ago and he had heard nothing since. This could be his only chance to try find her, he had to jump on it. After gearing up he left with a handful of others. They could not takes the short way because it went through Freedom controlled territory, they would have to fight their way through The Wild Territory into Yantar than make the dangerous trek through the Red Forest and finally to the area around Jupiter. If they where lucky they would make by nightfall. __________________________________________________
Vorona listen to what the Freedomer, his words seemed sincere and honest, and she felt that he would not harm her. Perhaps Vadik had been wrong about Freedom and its members.
“Thank you,” she said now much more relaxed as she got a better look and her rescuer. He at one time might have an attractive face but it had been mutilated by what looked some kind of clawed beast. His hair was a long matted mess, yet his face was shaven and neat. It was clear that he had some experience in the zone.
“It was nothing,” Ferret said offering her one of the slices of soy sausage, “We have been pulling loners out of all sorts of trouble. Anyway you are in luck some of the big bosses of Freedom should be coming by.”

Rurik was standing making notes on a large map of Pripyat, when one of the scouts came in, looking up he nodded and the scout came forward opening a smaller map with several scribbles and circled areas.
"Sir, we spotted the Freedom base, it is east of our own location, Monolith forces a to our north in the centre of the town, and we've seen Mercenaries moving northwards also." He young man said while Rurik made the needed changes to their map. "There is also large patches of mutant activity all along here." He added waving his hand to the north of where they were situated." Rurik made a note of warning.
"Well we know how far to patrol now." Rurik said writing orders for all of Duty to see. "We'll stick close to our base to minimise attracting unwanted attention."
"Start setting up a store room, I'll be back soon. Morak, Cheslav your with me we've got the first patrol." Rurik said having seen those two first. Morak had worked hard at any task he was tasked with.

It would seem that he would be scouting the ruins much early than expected, however they would not be venturing to far out from the Duty outpost. A very wise move on Rurik’s part, once they were firmly rooted in the Jupiter factory complex Morak was sure that they would begin to send larger patrols into the city. However would it be in time to save his sister, or was it all ready to late or maybe she wanted to disappear. He gathered his gear and waited to move out; he hoped that he might have an answer soon. ____________________________________________________
Night Patrol, most people hated it ,others thought it to be a death sentence, but Ferret he didn’t mind it. Sure there might be more mutants but he did not mind dealing with them it was humans that bothered him. However night was just as dangerous if not even more so for him, his gift (or Astral projection as one of the guys at the base had called it) made him even more vulnerable to Burers and Controllers. Burers where quit abundant in the abandoned ruins, just a week ago when doing some exploration his team was attacked by one. He was put out of commission for two days because it managed to get the jump on him. It seemed that these mutates could feel for weaker or less immune targets. Fortunately he had yet to meet any Controllers, but he had heard reports of one or two in some parts of the city, needless to say he avoided those parts of town like the plague.
He found it odd that he was so close to the NPP but he could not feel the pull on the Monolith on his mind. The force was still there however just weaken, he wondered if the presents of the other factions had something to do with it or was it just a lure to draw more minds to it. Either way he had to be on guard. However just then he herd his PDA beep, he had three new contacts. Not sure if they were friend or foe he took to the shadows and moved in closer for a look. Two of them where dressed in black suits and the tallest was dressed in monstrous exoskeleton.
‘Duty’ Ferret noted, he had seen some of their scouts in other parts of the ruins but never this close to the Pripyat outpost. He would watch them for a bit, and he hoped that they would lead him to their little hidey hole in the city.

Karc gently nudged the door of an old shop open and stepped inside gun at the ready. Sweeping it around the room he spoke into the radio on his shoulder. "Clear. That makes this entire block clear, start deployment." He said waiting for confirmation.
"-Will do. Sending troop now."
Sitting down he waited for the mercenary factions group to arrive they had been waiting out side the city until Karc had scouted an area to set up and operate out of.
Rurik along with the two other Dutiers were circling the area which they had set up camp, making their way outward from the factory they stopped checking the area over cautiously, an ambush could be waiting anywhere this far north from monolith or maybe even some other unknown threat.
Some comfort came from the fact their armour blended quite nicely with the ever darkening sky as night fell cloaking the area with darkness. The distant howl of an unseen mutant carried through the air, breaking the silence.
"This place must of been quite a sight at one point at time." Rurik muttered. The city was captured with a blue hue from the 2nd generation night vision device fitted to Rurik's helmet. He thought he caught a movement from the corner of his vision. Looking where he thought the saw the movement he took a few steps forward. However in the dead of night he couldn't see anything even with the NV.
"Mustn't of been anything." He said turning and propping the PKM on his shoulder, "Let's keep moving.

The Freedomer pushed himself deeper into the shadows and waited until the Dutyers had turned and began to walk away. That had been a close call; he needed to be careful, the Dutyers he was tailing had decent gear. There was also the possibility that they were leading him in to a trap or that he was being stalked by something or someone. His abilities would have been very useful but Ferret dared not use them so near the NPP. The Monolith might be in a dormant state, but it was still there.
A strange sensation came over the young Duty grunt, his intuition burned and nagged at his gut, where they being followed? Suddenly the blond haired private turned to face the darkness behind him his assault rifle ready to meet an assailant. However rather anticlimactically the only beast that emerged from the dark void was an irate Tushkano.
The little monster looked up at the Homo sapiens with its beady black eyes and hissed before running off into a dark alcove. It soon came across yet another human, before it could make a sound the human took out what was left of a Diet sausage and placed the food on the ground before it. The Tushkano sniff at the food before nibbling away at it, the rat mutant cared little for the humans’ interspecies conflict and so let the human be.

Pripyat, the Zone's most infamous ghost town and now the flashpoint of a new war between factions. Duty, Freedom and the Monolith were vying for control of the city's streets and buildings, and the fighting had not evaded the military's watchful eyes. A spy drone had brought back footage of the fighting, and the army had quickly sent some of its agents to get a better look at the situation.
Back in the day, the army would have sent helicopters and soldiers to do that, but now they relied more on infiltrated agents. Elite soldiers posing as stalkers and who acted as observers and spies. Natasha Badanov was one of them, and she'd been tasked with getting to Pripyat.
Getting there had been tough, since she did not benefit from any motorised transport. She had slogged the journey on foot, avoiding anomalies, fighting mutants and staying away from the clashes between bandits, anarchists and paramilitary units. After a few days of walking, Pripyat had finally come into view.
Thankfully, the journey had been made easier by the dark grey exoskeleton she wore. It had facilitated walking and carrying her equipment, and had made the perilous trip less arduous for her body.
Now she was close to the old radio factory, a massive building that had been abandoned after the original disaster of 1986. She went past an empty building that looked like some kind of checkpoint and continued on her way to the radio factory's main building. As she went along the road, she heard a familiar and frightening sound: the ugly roar of snorks.
"Fuck", she said, her voice muffled by her respirator. She whirled around and saw three snorks loping towards her. Quickly she raised her weapon, an AN-94 Abakan, and fired two bursts at the approaching mutants. One of them fell, its skull and chest riddled with bullets, but the other two kept on coming despite having been injured by her shots. One of the foul beasts roared and leaped at her, but Natasha fired another burst of bullets into the creature's stomach, killing it instantly.
The last snork, somewhat humbled by the military stalker's savage skill, retreated with a frustrated snarl. Natasha let the mutant go and began to run towards the radio factory, but as she got closer, she saw that the place was occupied. Through the blueish glare of her second generation NV goggles, she saw the familiar suits of Duty.
"You! Halt!", barked a harsh male voice from behind a gas mask.
"-I'm just a loner making her way in the world, comrade", said Natasha calmly. She carefully slung her assault rifle over her shoulder and raised her hands to show that she meant the Dutiers no harm. technically, Duty was just another dangerous, trouble-making faction in the Zone, but Natasha's mission was to observe, not attack.

Night patrol, woo-fucking-hoo. Wasp supposed someone had to do it to keep the perimetre of Freedom's field HQ safe, but it was still dangerous. But hey, she was one of Penumbra's oldest and most respected members. Who was she to complain about a little night trip?
The commandant would have no problem with night patrols, though. Her eyes were just perfect for piercing the obscurity, and some of her other senses seemed to have become sharper too. However, the commandant was not around and probably wouldn't be for a while. Adder's orders had been clear, though.
Stay silent, do not make too much noise or draw attention to where your base is. Kill the enemy quietly and get rid of the bodies.
One of her fellow Penumbrans suddenly made a quiet hand gesture, holding his fist up. Stop. The squad stopped, and Wasp quietly made her way over to her comrade. The man indicated an area a few metres away, and Wasp observed it through her second generation night-vision goggles. There was a building up ahead, some old store maybe, and there was light coming from it. A fire in an old steel drum was burning merrily while Monolith fanatics stood guard.
Wasp made a few hand gestures to convey the squad's course of action: get closer, take out the guards, then move in and kill the rest.
The squad moved in silence, shadows in the night. Wasp reached for the weapon she carried with her: a military crossbow. She picked an arrow from the plastic quiver attached to the side of her backpack and quietly loaded it onto the crossbow. She then cranked the weapon up and slowly took aim at a Monolithian standing a few metres away from the fire.
One, two, three..., counted Wasp before releasing the arrow. The small arrow whistled through the air and cleanly struck the Monolithian in the neck. The other guards met the same fate. Swiftly and silently, the Penumbrans rushed forth into the building, and Wasp lifted up her NV goggles to avoid being blinded by the firelight. Quietly they walked through the empty, partly ruined building. A couple more Monolithians were discovered in a back room and had their throats slit. As her fellow Penumbrans finished off the Monolithians, Wasp suddenly saw another one emerging from a nearby bush. Before he could cry out or attack, Wasp had snatched her combat knife out of its sheath and threw it right into the man's throat. The Monolithian died a quiet death, choking on his own blood and unable to cry out.
"That's done", whispered Wasp before retrieving her knife and her arrow. "Get rid of the bodies."
The Penumbrans picked up the dead Monolithians and dragged them away from the building. They proceeded to dump the corpses into a fruit punch anomaly, dissolving them entirely and leaving no trace. It would be as if these men had never even existed.
"Okay, let's go", said Wasp. She could hear the howls of blind dogs and pseudodogs somewhere in the city.
She couldn't wait to get back to the Warehouses.
____________________________
"Fancy walking to Pripyat at night. Fucking genius", muttered one of the Freedomers.
"- Be quiet", said Adder.
The Freedomers were all reinforcements being sent to bolster Penumbra's foothold in Pripyat. Adder had put Wasp in command of the scouting and the base-capturing, and now she was following up behind the younger woman.
Maginot himself had come along for the "campaign" as he called it. Freedom's objectives were to create a corridor into the centre of the Zone and to study the dangers that lay in Pripyat and beyond. The first part of the operation had gone well, with Penumbra successfully establishing a base in the ghost city. Now, the second phase of the operation was about to be put into effect.
Maginot was right behind Adder, seeing the darkened world through a pair of first generation NV goggles that hissed like snakes in a bucket. He'd never bothered to get another, better pair, since he seldom went out at night. The other Freedomers didn't all have NV goggles though, and since their headlamps had been turned off to avoid detection, those without goggles had to follow in the tracks of those who did.
Adder could see perfectly in the dark of night, a very useful perk given to her by her mutation, so she walked confidently and silently. The others, on the other hand, were making a bit more noise.
"Are we there yet?", whispered Mag. Adder nodded.
"-The underpass Wasp told me about is right up ahead. It's anomaly free, so don't worry."
"-Good. Wasp did a good job."
The Freedomers cautiously approached the bridge and the underpass, guns at the ready should mutants, Duty or Monolithians attack. As they reached the underpass, Adder's keen eyesight suddenly caught movement up ahead.
"-Stop", she said. "We have company."
She heard Maginot raise his SIG-550 behind her. She observed the figures up ahead, and there was no doubt as to what they were: zombified stalkers.
"-Zombies", said Maginot, as he too saw the shambling silhouettes. "Prepare to open fire."
Adder raised her VSS Vintorez and took aim at one of the zombies. There was something rather odd about the whole thing though...
"Fire!", said Maginot. The quiet air of the night was shattered by the harsh sound of automatic gunfire. There were surprised groans from the underpass as bullets hit the zombies there, and it was in the light of the gun flashes that Adder saw what was wrong: there were a lot more zombies than she had originally thought.
"Take cover!", barked Maginot. The zombies returned fire as Adder dropped behind the rusted wreck of an old Zap. One of the Freedomers was hit by the enemy and fell dead in the middle of the overgrown tarmac road.
"-Fucking zombies!", said Adder. "The last blow-out must have made them."
"-Wait for the zombs to come out of the tunnel before shooting them!", ordered Maginot before leaning out from behind the Zap. Adder stood up slightly and positioned herself with her Vintorez propped up on the old car's battered roof. The zombies all came surging forward in pursuit of the Freedomers, and every one of them that emerged from the tunnel was immediately shot down. The strategy worked, and soon, a pile of still twitching corpses littered the area in front of the underpass.
"Now that's done", said Maginot as he stood up and cautiously approached the underpass. "Coast's clear, everyone."
"-We lost Salami", said one of the Freedomers.
"-Fucking zombies", said Adder.
"-We'll bury him by the side of the road", said Maginot. "But be quick. We don't have much time."
The Freedomers dug a shallow grave for Salami, whose corpse was relieved of its ammo, gas mask, suit and other useful items before being placed in its final resting place. A sheet of rusty metal was driven into the ground above the grave, and one of the men quickly scratched a hasty epitaph into it. Once everyone had paid their respects to the fallen Freedomer, the group resumed its journey to the bus depot. As they made their way through the underpass, a tell-tale and terrifying rumble shook the earth.
"Emission?", said Maginot. They were close to the end of the underpass, so he cautiously looked outside. The sky was clouding over and was turning an ugly red. Lightning streaked through the tormented heavens, and the air seemed to fill with electricity. Maginot quickly got back into the safety of the tunnel, as he felt his brain was about to implode
"Yep. Emission", he said. As the group retreated back into the underpass, he saw debris and empty bullet cases on the ground outside suddenly start hovering a few centimetres above the earth. In the middle section of the underpass, they all sat down or leaned against the curved walls and waited.
"-Fucking hell...that is a strong emission", said Adder, rubbing her head. "I can feel it even in here!"
"-Something's not right about it", said Maginot, remembering the objects hovering above the ground. "I hope the others will be okay..."
The ground shook again as a deafening thunderclap echoed over Pripyat. The Freedomers stayed in the tunnel and waited for the terrible storm to pass.

Karc looked up as the sound of footsteps, carefully looking out of a boarded up window he saw several mercs weighed down with gear, stepping outside he ushered them inside the large multi-story building.
"There's a basement which is a little damp, but will do for setting up our equipment Set communications up on the fifth floor, use a room with no windows, run leads to an adjoining room and place the aerials facing south-east." Karc ordered as the gear was moved.
"Duty and Freedom a somewhere to the south, I'd say one of the groups is using that old factory. The other, well our patrols will have to see if they can find out." Another merc added.
"Good," Karc said nodding, the sudden rumble in sky plus the sudden change in the sky, to a smokey red, "bloody hell, another blowout. Follow me, leave the gear in there." He said pointing to a small store room, walking towards the stairwell leading into the buildings basement.
The blow out was building up into one hell of an emission as a brilliant flash of lightening followed by a thunderclap which shook the building.
"This is worse than the other ones." Karc commented quietly, as they gathered in the buildings basement, "Get those lights on." Almost instantly several flood lights lit up the dank area exposing the area. mold grew on several walls and pipes. A pile of boxes lay untouched since the power-plants meltdown, now rotted and crumbling.
The rumbling seemed to grow more intense as did the thunder.
"I wish I was immune to these things." Karc muttered, rubbing his temple where a dull throbbing was attacking his head.
Rurik and the other two Dutiers were heading back when they spotted the small loner wearing an exoskeleton suit, it was an odd sight, most loners wouldn't explore places like this on their own, either they were lost or they were incredibly confident in their own skills.
"-I'm just a loner making her way in the world, comrade." The stalker said back to the guard, who had obviously stopped the stalker.
"Is that so comrade??" Rurik said as he approached, the other two Dutiers had their guns trained on the stalker, "You've picked a dangerous place to wander stalker, if you need shelter we'll grant you that for the night." He said looking upon the massive factory, "But should come within 50 meters of our equipment, you'll be shot. Savvy?"
Walking on he made his way towards the base, as he did the rumble of thunder made the ground shake partially. Looking back to the stalker, you may want to take refuge while the blowout is going." Looking to two of the guards, "Show her to part of the building which is covered."
Waiting for them to move away Rurik sent a message out to all the members warning them of the blowout.
"Morak, come with me we'll update the map, Cheslav you check the area, make sure everyone is inside and keeping guard of the area."
Marching up the stairs 3 steps at a time, Rurik and Morak gave one of the men in the office area a small package which he read and updated the map of Pripyat, writing out different notes and sticking them to the map, as the blowout rumbled on outside.

"Savvy", said Natasha. The tall Dutier looked very familiar, but she did not bother herself with trying to remember where she'd seen him. Besides, his face was entirely hidden behind an integral respirator and helmet.
I won't be needing get close to look at your gear, bozo, she thought as she made her way past the guards and into the building. You're already carrying enough of it around with you.
A deafening thunderclap cut through the dark sky, and Natasha groaned as she saw the firmament begin to grow red. An emission. Incredibly, some of the smaller debris scattered over the ground began to levitate under the influence of some mysterious force. Natasha hastily followed the two guards into the covered part of the building. Duty was still as well equipped as it had always been, nothing new here, but equipment was not her prime objective. She had to find out about bases (already done for Duty), plans, objectives...any strategic information. Unfortunately, her mission was not going as well as she had hoped, with the Dutiers giving her an undesired escort.
A short while later, the guards lead her into a room. While the two stood guard outside, she sat down in one corner and quickly marked the location of Duty's Jupiter base on her PDA's map. With that done, she quickly sent the data off to her superiors using a secure frequency.
______________________________
"You know, I just fucking love Tushkanos", said one Penumbran as he contemplated the mutated rodent corpses that now littered the basement of the building the squad had taken refuge in. Wasp fed a few shells into her Protecta before sitting down on a crate. A large puddle of Fruit Punch bubbled and hissed away in one corner of the room, filling the basement with an eerie green glow.
"- Same here, brat", said Wasp. The ground shook and dust fell from the ceiling as the emission took its course outside. It was the most violent and powerful blow-out that Wasp had ever seen, and the debris floating off the ground had made it even scarier.
"I've never seen a blow-out like this before", she said after a lengthy silence. "It's as if the world itself was convulsing."
"-Yeah."
Incredibly, the blow-out lasted for a whole hour before stopping. Very cautiously, Wasp and her fellow Penumbrans went back to the surface, wary of any possible "aftershocks". The sky had gone from angry red to a dull purple, and dead crows littered the ground. Wasp's dosimetre began to crackle as she got into the abandoned department stores main level.
"Better get out of here and crack some anti-rads", she said, running out of the building. The emission had somehow increased the building's radiation levels, and Wasp took a couple of anti-rads to purge her body of the radioactivity she'd absorbed.
"- Looks like the emission made metal objects radioactive", said a Penumbran who was standing next to an old Lada. Wasp spotted a rusted Kalachnikov nearby, so she put her dosimetre near it, and it began to crackle happily.
"- Well that's just fucking great", she said. "The goddamn bus depot has enough metal bits in it to turn it into a radioactive Disney Land. Better warn the others and tell them to move."
A message was quickly sent out: leave the bus depot and relocate to another building. Wasp's group had located a relatively safe block of flats South of the old Laundromat, which would undoubtedly make a better base as it was more defendable.
_______________________________
"Just got a message from the base", said Maginot, looking at his PDA. "Their building's been irradiated by the emission, so they're moving into a block of flats a bit North."
"- Emissions don't increase radioactivity levels", said Adder.
"- Well apparently, this one did. All metallic objects that were outside have become radioactive."
"- That's great. We can now cook ourselves to a crisp just standing next to a rusted washing machine."
"- All right everyone, let's move", said Maginot, ignoring Adder's sarcastic comment. The group rapidly left the tunnel they'd taken refuge in, and Mag's announcement regarding metal objects proved to be true as a bunch of metal dustbins on the sidewalk made their dosimetres go wild.
Carefully avoiding metal objects that lay in their path and keeping their respirators on at all times, the group made it past the now empty bus depot. Penumbra had made a good job of leaving the place, as absolutely no trace of human occupation was left save for a few empty sardine tins and a still smoking pile of ashes where a fire used to be. The appartments Wasp had marked lay only a few miles North, so Mag, Adder and the others set off quickly in order to reach their new destination.
Soon enough, they arrived at Freedom's new Pripyat base. None of the windows seemed to have any lights in them, which pleased Adder. Wasp had followed her order nicely. As the got closer to the building, they heard a voice hiss:
"Halt! Who goes there?"
"- Maginot and Adder. We've got reinforcements", said Mag.
"- Good to see you guys", said the Penumbran to Adder and Mag before adding, jokingly: "We were getting lonely up here."
"- Don't worry, mummy's here for you all", said Adder with a laugh. The newly arrived team entered the well guarded building and were told that Wasp had set up shop on the fourth floor. Mag and Adder headed up the stairs, finally reaching Wasp's little field HQ.
"I'm pleased that you followed the order I gave", said Adder as she entered the room Wasp was using to coordinate the operation. Wasp, who was leaning over an old map of Pripyat laid out on an old table, turned around and smiled at Freedom's two leaders.
"- Glad to see you guys", she said. "And boss, we're Penumbra. Not being seen or heard is what we do best."
"- What's the situation like here?", asked Maginot, glancing at the map.
"- Well, I sent a few teams out to explore Pripyat during the day and at night. There's a lot of zombies and mutants in this city, and we found two Monolith hot points in the old book shop and the ferry boat dock."
Wasp indicated these two buildings on the map before adding:
"We also think we might have found a new laboratory beneath the Yubileiny Service Centre, but we aren't sure", said Wasp, indicating the service centre on her map. "
"- Interesting", said Maginot. "Any idea how to access it?"
"- No", replied the Penumbran with a shake of her head. "We tried to get a closer look, but the building and its surroundings are rife with Monolith troops and zombies."
"- We'll have to organise an operation to try and break into that building", said Freedom's leader. "But for now...I'm going to get some rest. This journey was pretty hard."

Ferret followed the Dutyers back to Jupiter, from his position he could make out the outlines out of well-armed and heavily armored men on the roof of the old factory. If the equipment of the three he had trailed was of any indication, he surmised that the rooftop Dutyers where most likely armed with machine guns and or sniper rifles. It was undoubtable that Duty now had a firm foothold in the northern most reaches of the Zone; it seemed that only an act of god could drive them out from the ruin turned fortress. Ironically just such an event was to occur; just as the Freedomer pulled out his PDA to relay the message to his comrades on the other side of the decaying city the dark night time sky flashed red and illuminated the world like day. The former Bandit had little time to react as the ground began to tremble and shake around him, breaking into a run he had little time before the emission turned his organs into a thick red mush.
He ran caring little if any of the Dutyers saw, he continued to sprint until he came upon what looked like a garage or store house. He pushed up the metal door then let it slam back to the ground; his hands clung to his head. The Psy emission pounded into his head, the pain and presser was becoming too much. He held back a shrill cry before falling to the ground unconscious. About an hour after the blowout, the Freedomer shifted back into the world of the living. Holding his head he sat up still in a daze, fortunately he still had full cognitive function. He gathered his wits about him and slowly rose to his full height; he began to near the door when his geiger counter began to tick rapidly. He took a step back and the clicking decreased. Sighing he went into his pack and took out a bottle of Vodka and a iodine tablet, drinking half of the alcohol and swallowing the tablet he went back to the door and opened it. He knew that the vodka and the iodine were not going to protect him, but they might at least lessen the damage to his body. Like many men in the Zone he had yet to come to terms with being sterile.
______________________________________________________ “Boss, Commandant,” said one of the Freedomers, “Ferret left the outpost just before you showed up, and he still has not reported back… should we go look for him?”
Just then seemingly on queue the radio crackled to life on the other end was the worn out voice of the black haired Penumbran, exhausted yet still living.
“-Ferret reporting into Pripyat outpost. I found the Duty HQ, they have taken over the Jupiter factory. The place is locked up better than Rostok.”

Rurik sat down to wait out the emission, despite the countless times he'd done this task, it never seemed in easier and there was always that dull throbbing in the back of his skull from the pressure. Mulling over the idea of letting a loner into this base of operations he decided it would be closed to all except Dutiers in the future. Despite having a strong grip over the area he felt that more soldiers would reenforce their position better.
"Morak," He called to the newish recruit, "Once this emission is over radio HQ and tell them to send another squad and a hunter squad here, separately. We're going to start expanding from here soon."
Placing his head in his hands he waited out the emission quietly.
