"Permission to know what a member of the Russian military is doing here, sir?", said the Dutier to Rurik.
"Easy there corpora, she's a survivor, Spetsnaz. Their helicopter was torn apart by an airborne anomaly, it's a miracle she even survived. Anything to report?" Rurik said to the younger man.
"-No sir, sergeant Myrvang was up and wandering about earlier, but I assume that's part of the reason your here."
"Very well, carry on." Rurik said ushering Natasha through and following, "You'll find Duty uses a lot of gear similar and in some respects better gear, we aren't as restricted to what gear we can and can't use." As they passed another squad moving to replace one of the other checkpoints around Rostok.
As they came to the Duty base a man carrying an RPK saluted as Rurik and Natasha passed by. "-Good to see you sir." The man said.
"Likewise," Rurik said returning the salute and patting the man on the shoulder as he passed. Stooping, he ducked under the entrance and headed down the stairs. Stopping in he saluted to General Voronin who was sleeping like much of the base. Sigbrand's bunk was empty, much to Rurik's surprise.
Deciding to check another part of the base with Natasha still close by he went to check with Colonel Petrenko. As he neared he could hear two people discussing something about the zone, one definitely Sigbrand.
"Good to see your up and about Sergeant. Evening Cononel." Rurik said, "This is Lieutenant Badanov. I'll explain later." he added.

My God, they have a veritable arsenal in here...
Every man Natasha laid eyes upon was carrying some kind of military grade weapon. RPKs and other military weapons were legion, and everyone seemed equipped with suits that simply should not have been available to stalkers. The most remarkable were the exoskeletons Duty used. Natasha had seen the original prototypes produced in Kiev, but had always thought they'd been discontinued due to technical issues. Apparently, someone had fixed those issues and was manufacturing them illegally.
All this was information that the army would find quite interesting, so the Spetsnaz took note of everything she saw. The only plausible explanation would be that Duty had links to the armed forces, Ukrainian or Russian, which made sense considering how most of the original members of Duty were ex-soldiers. The black market that had developed with the Zone must have been even larger than she originally thought.
As Rurik presented another somewhat younger member of Dolg, Natasha saluted in silence. Her face remained hidden behind her SKAT suit's respirator helmet, enabling her eyes to watch the world around her unhindered.

Rurik had watched out of the corner of his eye as they had walked to see the Colonel Petrenko, she was looking at each member they passed. Probably making mental notes. He thought.
After conversing with Sigbrand and Petrenko briefly before leaving again, it had been good to see Sigbrand was recovering, he was an able soldier and a excellent marksmen, something Duty didn't have a lot of.
The mornings first light was beginning to creep over the roof tops of Rostok. Squinting as a ray of light shone in his eyes, Rurik looked away, back to the Spetsnaz that was accompanying him. "When do you intend to make your way back to Agroprom?" He asked, not sure if bringing her here was the best move. But figured it was better than leaving her at the possible mercy of stalkers or bandits.
All he knew was getting back to Agroprom was going to be easy for Natasha without some assistance dealing with the bandits that scattered the Garbage and some parts of Agroprom also. Lone stalkers would see a lone military unit as possible target.
"You'll probably want that Pecheneg too when you head back." Rurik added.

Sigbrand watched as Rurik and the Spetznaz left. He watched the Lieutenant intently as she walked. He could see her head moving from side to side just slightly. He could tell she was taking care to observe everything she saw in the bunker.
Hurrying after them, hand on the SIG Sauer pistol at his hip, he tugged on the hydraulics of Rurik's suit and said, "Can I speak with you for a moment, Lieutenant?"
When they had moved out of earshot, Sigbrand said, "I don't think it was a good idea to bring the Spetznaz into HQ, sir. For all we know the second she gets back to Agroprom she'll tell the military exactly how to get to us."

"-I don't think it was a good idea to bring the Spetsnaz into HQ, sir. For all we know the second she gets back to Agroprom she'll tell the military exactly how to get to us." Sigbrand said.
"I know what you mean, but the military have tried before and failed, unless they had someway of transporting in here unseen there aren't a lot off ways to take Rostok. Not unless they launch a full scale assault that is." Rurik, thinking it over again as he had often done so. "And I'm right in thinking that they might be able to take us with that type of attack, but it would cost them dearly in both resources and men."
Looking over to where Natasha was waiting, she was still looking around occasionally, either taking more mental notes or out of boredom.
"Well, either way we should return her to Agroprom soon lest they suspect she's dead. But after seeing the crash it's more surprising that someone survived." Rurik said. "But I'll see you again soon Sergeant, maybe you can start marksmen training for some of the other Dutiers around here while you wait?"
Going back to Natasha he waved to get her attention. "Come on, lets get you back to Agroprom." He said.

"They'll be surprised to see me", said Natasha. "Considering how the helicopter I was in was ripped apart in mid-air..."
She was surprised that Duty was not going to detain her. Due to recent events (mostly involving helicopters being shot down over Rostok), the military and Duty had been on rather poor terms for a while. The fact that the Lieutenant was just going to send her back to her own surprised her somewhat. Maybe they didn't want to provoke the military into attacking them?
After all, they had received a rather interesting shipment recently...guided missiles to be exact. The kind the Russians had used in Chechnya and Georgia to clear out built up areas of infantry. Usually thermobarics or high explosives. A few well-aimed missiles could easily flatten Rostok if the status quo was broken. Evidently, said ordnance was not kept in the Zone itself. Stalkers had a history of stealing or destroying military materiel from bases in the Zone...
"You could always give me some ammo, food and one of those suits stalkers wear. I'd make my own way back to base."
