Decent review . . .
Although, I'm really getting tired of seeing everyone "hold back" due to STALKER's visuals. So what if it looks a little out-dated? It's not that bad. Besides, the X-Ray engine has some of the best lighting I've seen in a game . . . without that "over polished" look so prevalent in other, bigger-budget titles. IMHO, that dark, dreary look of X-Ray is integral to the STALKER atmosphere and appearance . . .

Full dynamic on CS was one of the few things that were good about the game... The God-rays tech was pretty impressive. Shoc wasn't that bad on dynamic either, although SHOC did feel a bit out-dated.

"over polished" look so prevalent in other, bigger-budget titles Oh yeah, I really hate that in other games. Anyway, I take it that the English version has come out?

Why fix something that isn't broken? Anyway if they used something else it wouldn't have that stalker look we know from SoC.

Yeah. I feel that in comparison to stalker, all other games feel like being built out of plastic and sheet metal, while the stalker series feels like being made out of wood and full metal. I know it sounds strange, but that's kind of what it feels like.

Okay, I got the game and no matter how much I play it, I just can't get into it. Then again, maybe it's because of the occasionally slightly stuttering framerate.
My current specs:
E8400 3.00 GHz HD3870 2GB RAM WinXP
Any tips on how to improve performance?

I think that's good enough, 512mb. Thing is, I don't know anything about adding RAM.

As for video card, good chipset, but the card is light on vidram. By current standards, 1Gb of vidram is pretty much average for a gaming card. Unfortunately, there's no way to add vidram to a video card, so its new video card time. Jenifur Charne

It's been new card time for a while now, I just currently lack the money for buying one.

It's been new card time for a while now, I just currently lack the money for buying one. I know that 'fun' only too well. ASUS 1Gb nVIDIA 9600GT here, but no chance of upgrading till Q3 this year at the earliest. I've just spent $540AUD on an ASUS VW266H monitor. The gear that the cash I spent on the monitor was planned for was new battery for my notebook, and new printer. Those 2 have to be put on hold till Q2 this year. Jenifur Charne
