Bear walked on into the night. He was walking slowly into the darkness relying solely on the map and GPS in his PDA to work out where he was going. He had already navigated past multiple anomalies - his detector had gone off, throw a few bolts and move around it slowly. The dark was occasionally broken with a distant light searching the blackness - flicking back and forth before dissapearing again - forcing Bear to stop dead in his tracks to avoid detection. It was slow going, but it would be worth it.
Bear had grown tired of waiting to hear back from the Trader regarding any work. He was used to being in combat and wasn't really one for spending the day sleeping, sitting around a campfire or wandering around aimlessly. Bear was a man of action and was itching for a fight.
Recently around the campfires some of the really green stalkers entering the Cordon had been speaking of a group of bandits hanging around the abandoned carpark - harassing any loner groups that were headed north towards the Garbage. There must have been about seven or eight of them up at the carpark - the rookies who had been held up could always see at least 4 bandits around them and noises circling around as well. Bear figured it would be a good place to get a reputation for himself - as well as pick up some extra gear to sell off as well.
Bear had gotten the co-ordinates from one of the rookies uploaded so he knew where he was going. He was going to hit them at night under the cover of darkness and try and get the bandits before they knew what hit them. His rifle was slung behind his back while he held his PB1 out in front of him at the ready.
He could finally see the carpark clearly - a few small fires burned inside as well as a moving headlamp inside the walls. Squinting slightly Bear could just make out a pair of guards at the front entryway. The pair were smoking and talking quietly. This would not be Bear's approach. He scanned around further and made out a gap in the fence off to the right hand side of the carpark. Dropping to a crouch Bear slowly closed the distance, keeping himself low to avoid detection. He put the PDA back into a pocket in his parka - not wanting to reveal his position with it's soft glow.
He reached the gap in the fence and stopped. The light from a fire just inside an open door was throwing out the shadows of two men - he couldn't tell what they were armed with as the falmes were causing the shadows to shapeshift too much. Bear stepped back slowly, retreating into the shadows slightly before beginning to move through the lighted area slowly - his pistol pointed at the door way. As he moved past he could easily see the two bandits - one was seated warming himself, the other pacing back and forth slightly. He waited for the pacing bandit to turn his back, drew a bead and fired two quick shots from the silenced pistol into the seated bandit's head. The first shot hit, the second missing slightly. Flicking his aim up just as the other bandit turned around and sending another two shots into his head, this time both rounds finding a place in the bandit's skull. The bandit pair were both dead - Bear quickly moved in and dragged the bodies back outside and hid them in the shadows.
Bear reloaded the PB1 - sticking the half used magazine into a back pocket for use later and replaced it with a full one. Checking out the remainder of the section of the carpark he was in he spied a rear door - Bear figured this would be an excellent way in. He again slowly crouch-walked his way over to the doorway and peered inside. The room was empty so Bear continued inside. He needed to pick up the pace a little - those first two bandits were likely to be missed soon.
He crept his way over some rubble and came out of the building into a laneway. He waited a moment, checking for more bandits before another one appeared at towards the front of the carpark walking towards Bear. The bandit's headlamp was off. Bear quickly went back inside, tucket the pistol into the inside pocket of his jacket and drew his machete - holding it above his head. He waited silently and listened for the footfalls of the approaching bandit. The footsteps grew closer and closer until they stopped - just shy of the doorway. Bear almost swore. Bear could tell from the sound the bandit had pulled out a cigarette and lit it, taking a few drags. A scuffling sound indicated the bandit had turned around. Now is the time to act. Bear stepped out of the doorway with the machete still held high, stepped up behind the bandit and cleaved the blade down on his neck. Bear quickly reached forward, clamping his hand over the bandit's mouth before driving the blade further into the man's upper body - severing his spinal column. The body began spasming in Bear's hands - so he quickly pulled the bandit's body back inside the building. Bear reached for the man's rifle to make sure no shots went off - just as the spasms caused the bandit's finger to clench the trigger, firing the rifle full-auto.
"FUCK!" Bear hissed under his breath. He wrenched the rifle out of the dead bandit's hands and the firing stopped. The shots rang out over the carpark. Bear would have to do this the hard way. He could hear shouting from the other bandits and the sound of rifles being cocked.
Dropping the bandit's rifle he swung his own AK out in front of him, flicking the safety off. He couldn't see any lights moving around - these bandits must have been smart enough to turn them off. A moving headlamp is a dead giveaway. Bear slowly moved forward - poking his head and rifle out around the doorway he was standing in. As soon as he did so - a short burst whizzed past his head and he quickly withdrew. He grabbed the machete from the dead bandit's neck and sheathed it quickly. Bear grabbed his rifle and stuck it out the doorway and jammed his finger down on the trigger - blind firing at his enemy. Bear followed the rifle out, bringing it up to his shoulder. The bandits had taken cover - not knowing where the shots were aimed. Bear panted - the adrenaline pulsing through his veins. He flicked his aim back and forth waiting for a bandit to show himself.
He spotted some movement from the rooftop of the building opposite him. Bear brought the rifle up and waited the fractions of a section before the bandit's head came up from behind a box. Bear squeezed off a quick burst - one of the shots caught the bandit in the shoulder, putting him down for now. He ducked back into the doorway closely followed by a barrage of bullets. Bear leaned out and fired another burst towards one of the sources - the shots missing their marked and embedding into some bricks. Spotting a doorway opposite him Bear let loose another burst and charged across the laneway, taking cover in the next building.
This building must be some kind of workshop - a pair of trucks with the bonnets up filled the main room. Bear ducked in behind a box presumably filled with engine parts. The sound of footfalls filled the main room of the building. It was time to go on the offensive. Bear stood up firing a quick burst and vaulted over the box, breaking into a run and scampering up the wheel arch of the truck closest to him. Bear quickly located the bandit in the garage and fired another burst - this one tearing shreads through the bandit's chest. The bandit's body slowly fell backwards to the ground. By the time the bandit had fallen, Bear had jumped down to the floor as well - landing in front of the truck he had scarpered up.
Bear released the magazine from his AK, again tucking it into a pouch for later. Seating a new magazine he readied himself for another charge.
The two bandits standing guard at the front entrance were now taking cover in the small buildings either side and there was at least another bandit inside the main building. Bear ran back out the back door of the garage building and charged into the first building again. He ran low to avoid enemy fire, ducking behind anything slightly bulletproof on his way. He cleared the building and made his way back to the front. He dove prone onto the hard floor and crawled towards an opening in the wall. He slid alongside the wall and used his foot to nudge a brick - the bandits peppering it with fire. Bear used the opportunity to pop up and spray the second building with fire. None of the shots connected - but that wasn't what bear wanted. He jumped to his feet and stormed the first building - tackling the bandit and knocking him to the ground. Bear quickly emptied a few rounds into the man's face. Now for the other one. Bear climbed out the window and ducked down low. He snuck along the outside of the carpark wall and came up under the other small building's window. He slowly stood up with his rifle aimed towards the window. The bandit was hanging outside the door - aiming where Bear was a minute ago. Bear got his attention quickly by putting a round through the back of his head.
One more. Maybe.
Bear crept back in towards the main building. He called out to the night and to any remaining bandits.
"Is there any of you left? You might want to take th chance to throw down your weapons and leave before I put a bullet in you as well."
Bear heard nothing but silence from the building. He poked his head around the building corner. The building he was hiding behind was covered in shadow - the bandit would have a hard time trying to draw a bead on him. Bear kept his rifle in his shoulder and called out again.
"Last chance to walk away with your face intact. Come on out."
Bear kept his aim on the building. The fire burning within lit the inside nicely but was weak enough to leave Bear hidden in the shadows. Bear could see a silhouette begin moving. It wasn't clear enough to take a shot - he had to wait for it to become a bit more clear. The silhouette was clearly still armed. The last bandit steeped forward with rifle held at the ready. This one must have been the greenest one of the lot - aim flicking about all over the place and moving nervously. Bear decided to screw with this last bandit a little.
He drew his PB1 and put a shot into the wall next to the silhouette. The supressor hid the muzzle flash nicely and Bear was still hiden. The round hit the wall behind the bandit - causing him to spin around and fire a burst into the wall. Bear tok aim and put another shot near the bandit - on the other side to where he had been shooting. Again the rookie spun and sprays bullets into the wall where the shot fell. A few more bursts and the bandit would run dry. Bear quickly put another shot into a nearby wall and the bandit emptied the last of his magazine - continuing to pull the trigger even though there were no rounds left. Bear stood up and darted towards the bandit. He grabbed the bandit's arm holding the rifle and brought his forehead forward - hard - headbutting the rookie bandit right in the middle of the face. Bear heard a satisfying crunch as he broke the rookie's nose. The bandit fell to the ground.
Bear quickly grabbed the rookies backup weapon - a Makarov pistol - and pointed it at the bloodied bandit lying on the ground next to him.
"Get out of here kid or the next thing that smacks you in the face will come out the other side."
The bandit layed still on the floor - breathing heavily and possibly in shock.
'MOVE!"
Bear fired a shot between the man's legs for good measure. The bandit quickly stood up and ran quickly, tripping over some rubble on his way out. Bear could see him keep running on his way out and dissapear into the night.
Bear looked around the carpark. Now, bandit free. He dragged all the bodies into the main building and checked their corpses for anything he could possibly use or sell to the Trader.
