“J… Join freedom?” repeated the now exiled bandit, at first he thought that Maginot was telling a curl joke, but it soon became clear that he wasn’t.
“Even after all I have done and all that I tried to do, you would let me, a bandit join you?” he said in still disbelief, “how can I not turn this down…I’ll join.”

"Welcome aboard, stalker", said Maginot, "when we get back to the base we'll give you Freedom's equipment package and a drink. Remember, you're free to do what you wish as long as you respect other people's freedom. This means no stealing or bullying. Also, I make an exception with drugs and alcohol: none of those while on duty."
Maginot heard Adder mutter from where she stood:
"-Gosh Mag, you're such a bleeding heart. Next thing you'll be offering a place in Freedom for Monolithians and Dutiers". She then spoke to Ferret: "Anyway, if you have an insomniac streak you can always sign up for Penumbra...I won't stop you. Besides, after losing those people up North, we need new blood."
Adder then left the trailer and went to talk to the medic. Maginot stood up and left, walking towards the commander of the Barrier.
"Hey, I want you people to keep an eye out for Sokol. He vanished while we were up at the Scorcher. Also, keep an eye out for a short Asian guy, he's very very dangerous and well armed."
The commander nodded before quickly glancing towards the Red Forest and turning to ask Maginot a question:
"-So boss...what happened up there? We heard a lot of noise."
"-Oh, we just freed the Zone of a very dangerous device. The Scorcher will never work again."

Schwarz decided to double back to see if Ferret or Balalaïka were still arguing, approaching the area they had been he saw they had both moved, Balalaïka was able to walk but I doubt Ferret was in any shape to walk, maybe someone helped him? He thought, several dogs howled nearby giving Schwarz all the warning he needed jogging quickly through the brush along the side of the road.
He stopped where Rusty's corpse was he grabbed the Slime artifact from his corpse he spied his pack nearby he went through it taking the Sunrise suit and the empty SVD and several rations of food, tossing three unwrapped sausages on the road for the mutants. He jogged slightly slower all the way back to the barrier slowing to a walk and stopping as several guards pointed their weapon at him and converged on him.
"Hands up slowly." the closest guard shouted at him. Schwarz sighed and put his hands above his head. "Talk to your boss asshole, I'm sure he can vouch for me." One of the guards jogged up the hill towards a trailer, disappearing.

Both the Freedom leader and the Commandant left the trailer, leaving him alone once more. Carefully he sat up, as to make sure that he did not cause himself any unneeded pain. Ferret soon whet about looking himself over, only to find that his bullet wound was gone; in its place a rough looking scar, with surprise he found that his old bloodsucker wound was healed too.
"How..." he said out loud only to be cut off by the medic as he reentered the trailer.
"Artifacts kid," he said as he handed the ex bandit a steaming cup of a rust colored liquid, "here drink this, it should get ya back up on ya feet."
What ever it was it smelled and tasted horrid, yet Ferret managed to down it. He would later find out that it was a kind of Artifact tea.
"Talk to your boss asshole, I'm sure he can vouch for me."
He young Rookie recognized the voice, it belonged to non other then the mercenary, Schwarz. Slowly the now former bandit peeked out of the trailer to see just what was happening

"Boss! Boss!"
Maginot turned to see one of the Barrier's guards approach him.
"-What is it?", he said. The guard jerked his head back in the direction he had just come.
"-Some masked guy just showed up. We're not too keen on letting everyone through after what happened up North, so we stopped him. He says you can vouch for him."
Maginot took a few steps towards the edge of the small hill's summit and looked down into the area known as the Barrier. He quickly recognised Schwarz, still with his silly mask and his rather mind-boggling array of exotic weaponry. Maginot cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted:
"IT'S OKAY! LET THE GUY THROUGH". The people below stepped aside, letting the mercenary through. Maginot sighed heavily, wincing at the pain in his broken ribs the shouting had caused.
"I want to get back to the base, what do you think Adder?" he said in a tired voice.
"-I'm all for it", said Adder in a voice just as tired as Maginot's. The things they had been through in the Red Forest had strained their minds and their bodies, and all they wanted now was to rest in the safe confines of Freedom's HQ.
"-Ferret, I suggest you come with us", said Maginot as he got ready to leave, "you'll be introduced to the crew and get some proper gear, not to mention you'll be safer and get better care at the base."

Schwarz waited until Maginot shouted from above "IT'S OKAY! LET THE GUY THROUGH." the guards stepped aside letting him pass, "Why thank you. I'll be sure to tell people of this welcoming committee when they next book a holiday here." He said sarcastically before he walked on, looking up to the place where Maginot and Adder were standing, to his surprise Ferret emerged from the trailer too they were all looking fairly worn out. He saluted the group before walking away towards Rostok. El, coming back now. Get the others ready we'll be heading to Yantar as soon as I've split our loot. He sent the message through to his men. Shrugging the heavy pack and tightening the straps he walked a little faster hoping to get to the bar before the the afternoon.

"Yeah, sure, Boss whatever you say" said Ferret as he watched Schwarz make his way towards Rostok, carrying what looked like an armory on his back.
'Gee, what is he superman,' thought the ex bandit as he began to follow Maginot and Adder to the Freedom base. He was still weak due to the blood loss but now at least he could move on his own. Ferret also noted that the Freedom leader and the commandant also where ailed with some kind of physical injury. The ex bandit remembered hearing explosions, gunfire and even screams from the Scorcher facility; it had sound like something from one of the Old World war II films. He was truly astonish that the two had even been able to pull him out of the forest.
After a slow and tedious walk, they made it to the Freedom HQ, once in side Ferret was given a Guardian of Freedom Suit and a SIG550 assault rifle.
Ferret gains Freedom affiliation Wind of Freedom Suit SIG550
Ferret loses Bandit affiliation AK-74/U Sunrise' suit

Nondescript would do little justice to the room if it were to be summed up in a single word. A thin cover of dust hung from a flat grey concrete ceiling and walls, punctuated only by a metal door and a dim light bulb hanging down by a thick wire with patchy insulation.
The figure was strapped down to a metal chair, which in turn was bolted down to the floor. The precautions were solid, designed to keep even a strong captive held down, but looked oddly out of place considering the state of the man in question. Although tall, he looked emaciated. His hair was heavily matted, and hung limply as his head drooped on his chest, which was exposed save for a huge bandage swathed around his midsection.
Slowly, the man stirred. The eyelids drifted open, revealing two startlingly bright green eyes. His gaze swept the room as he tugged ineffectually at the straps around his wrists and ankles.
How long he had been held, he did not know. He thought he had some idea of who his captors were, and why they had kept him here, but the shreds of lucid thought were slowly sinking into a murky oblivion, as if his memories were slowly being wiped off like a magnetized disk. He glanced at his forearm, noting several puncture marks from a needle. The veins were too prominent, inflamed. Was this a sedative?
The steel door swung open, revealing a figure donning a massive black exoskeleton. The host was evidently shorter than his captive, but was nevertheless substantially more muscular. A glinting, captivating blue crystal hung by his belt in an artifact container. He stepped forward, kneeling down to the level of his prisoner.
"Tell me," the voice that came from behind the mask had an odd, fluctuating quality about it, as if it were distorted into a wild range of tonalities and inflections "how does it feel to know you are in hell?"
The prisoner's head swam as his vision seemed to blur and double. His gaze tried to focus on his captor as the latter took off the helmet of his exoskeleton, but all he could make out was the slow, magnetic blue shimmer of the artifact he now drew from his belt. "Where... where are the others?" he managed to grind out despite the pain in his chest. The others? He struggled to think. It seemed an apt question to ask. There were others, he remembered now. But who?
"They left you for dead." the voice said "They wouldn't save you from certain death, but oh, we did..." the words seemed to originate in his own head, resonating through every single neuron in his body. "... we thought you could do better than that. Can't you now?"
"To think that I was once a human being," the man in the black exoskeleton muttered, his eyelids fluttering, as if he was trying to keep a grasp on his own sanity "to think that these Free-Willed, they have it easy." he stared at the flickering crystal in his hand before drawing a SIG P220 pistol from his belt. "I hope there is no afterlife where you can ever find me after this." he said to the semi-conscious man sitting bound before him.
The man's exoskeleton-suited arm jerked forward, slamming the glowing crystal into his captive's chest with enough force to break the sternum and drive it headlong into the man's heart. The wound seemed to burn, cauterizing itself almost immediately as the stone flashed a blinding blue. The prisoner's keen, green eyes seemed to morph, pupil and iris melting together in a uniform white as he let out a ragged breath and slumped forward lifelessly.
The exoskeleton-suited figure rose uneasily and tottered before putting the gun to its head and pulling the trigger.
