Back Story:
OOC Contrary to how this wall of text looks, the back story and his motivations are simple. I am not pretentious, and I have never roleplayed before...so, pointers would be great.
Born sometime in the 60's in the grey outskirts of Bucharest, at the apogee of the communist grip of Romania, Avram was never meant to be a Stalker. He was never meant to be anything but a family man. Had it not been for the commies and the ideological obsession of turning city dwellers into engineers and scientists, he would never have gotten into university, and especially not into evolutionary biology. Yet, as his strong Christian orthodox faith teaches, "each person shall be judged according to what he has done, and not what he intends to". As such, he believed he led a good simple life as a laboratory assistant, until he met his soon to be wife, Adriana. Then he realized God loved him, as they loved each other. She was an engineer, and many times more brilliant than him. Sophia came into the world in 1985, the seed of a simple love. Her parents held her close and hoped their lives would remain so blessed and simple in God's will. Life is never so good or simple.
The news of the Chernobyl accident would spread more slowly than the radioactive cloud. Before the Iron Curtain leaked to the rest of the world, it requested assistance to fix the holes. A small team of Romanian engineers was called upon to aid in the construction of the Sarcophagus. It became Adriana's sarcophagus, though official records listed a machine accident.
Avram suffered inside, but he knew it was God's plan to take her. He was only wrong about which God, for the Zone is not the Christian one. He still had his daughter, and perhaps it was fortunate that she had never known her mother. After the revolution in 1989, he began pushing for a Ph.D. Avram became a well known evolutionary geneticist, but never attained the brilliance of his late wife. In 2000 he and a teenage Sophia traveled to the Zone to place flowers on Adriana's headstone. When the two of them had returned home, Sophia was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic lukemia. God had struck him a second time. The brave girl was given a year, and then another year, and then God offered her an "indefinite prognosis," but she would inevitably wither away at some point. The length of her life after diagnosis was a miracle, but Avram needed more than a miracle to save her.
When the Ecologists contacted him in 2007 (under the guise of many fictitious bureaus of "Science and Investigation" or "Kiev Agency of...") explaining the situation, he knew what had to be done. Paradoxically, the ecologists lacked biologists. Perhaps the many mutants of the zone are not as economically relevant as the quaint artifacts, but Avram had other plans. He signed up after hearing strange tales about the properties of a particular variety of mutant the stalkers called Bloodsuckers. The phrase cellular proliferation echoed "cure" and "life" in Avram's ears. Most ecologists have to undergo special training in Kiev for at least two years. Though he was never a genius and no longer as young as the new Eco recruits, his steadfast determination and search for a faint glimmer of hope through science rended him capable of being deployed to Yantar in just one year. There was a lot of secrecy surrounding everything, but he kept focused, unfazed by the notorious threats of seemingly super-natural dangers in the Zone.
He was told by Shakarov that Stalkers are generally young, anti-socials, freaks, outcasts. People of intelligence, ability and pitilessness, and also that nobody hates the few isolated Ecologists, but nobody loves them either. He is not any of these things, after all, he never used a gun before being handed one along with the rest of the equipment, but despite this, his mission, his mandate is clear - to save his beautiful girl at home at any cost or die in the process. Through significant biological and behavioral knowledge of mutants, Avram is prepared to apply his rational mind, peaceful set of morals yet ruthlessness if need be in order to go back home and make sure that what God produced from his blood would outlive him...perhaps even find out what happened to his loved one. The Zone took everything from him, and by all that is holy, he shall bring something back from the depths of this hell or be swalloed by it.
But Avram must find a Bloodsucker and live to analize the encounter before he can understand what his quest will require of him.
As far as equipment goes, I would like to start with a Walker P9 and the standard SSP suit.
edited for grammar and flow.
editud again, erased the arrival in the zone and the changed the status of Ecologists for being shaddy and possibly conflicting with the storyline, also lol Walker P9, perhaps I had too much J Walker...
