So every so often, whether I use a mod or not, when I zone I'll pop in with the green radiation indicator. It goes away in the time it takes to blink. I figure it's got something to do with the perma-rad bug, and zone edges and stuff. No biggie. So today, just now (OK, 5 minutes ago), I zoned into Bar from Wild Territory 10/05/2012 at roughly 23:50, game time/date. I had this green indicator... but it wasn't radiation. It was a circle broken into 4 parts (top/bottom/left/right) with a skull in it. I started playing some Mötley Crüe, threw the horns, posted and went game-on. Strelok had a Metal Moment. That or I haven't paid attention and figured something else was also rad damage. Just made me giggle and I'm tired and giddy.

The skull thing is brain damage, I think. In SoC controllers and maybe the emitter as well cause it. And apparently, in the Zone brain damage heals in seconds.

I figure it's got something to do with the perma-rad bug, and zone edges and stuff. No biggie. 2 solves for the rad perma-damage. 1. find a savegame from before you got hit with it. 2. use a trainer to block rad damage. The trainer won't help you avoid the rad damage hit every 10 seconds though, so you won't be able to sprint for anywhere near the full amount of stamina. Had you been to Yantar labs or the village at the Warehouses, shortly before this happened? What suit were you wearing there, and what were you wearing when you were hit by the psychic attack on returning to Rostok Bar? The skull thing is brain damage, I think. In SoC controllers and maybe the emitter as well cause it. And apparently, in the Zone brain damage heals in seconds. I've encountered poltergeists in Wild Territories at night after installing STALKER Complete 2009, before completing the game into Free Play mode, so a Controller turning up in Wild Territories wouldn't surprise me in the least. Yeah, the permadamage is mean, I should really make a savegame that isn't a quicksave, since I'm far enough along. But that wasn't too peculiar of an oddity, usually only get it when running against the zone boundary for giggles. I'd been to Yantar, so that's probably it. And I'm using SC2009, and there had been a bunch of abnormally large dog/rat/pseudodog packs there in that outing... so it could have been from that. I'd just never noticed it before. On the topic of weird stuff, I remember being in a shootout with the Army post at the bridge in Cordon. Some of my up-armed Obokan-wielding friends are helping out, and some bandits came from the Garbage direction too. (Which reminds me, I need to collect more current weapons and armour for my little buddies back there, heeehee!) It was a real cluster. Well, I shoot this one bandit, and he falls through the ground. That happens, I didn't think much of it, since it's raining bullets all over the place. So my buddies drop 2 more guys, and I take out a soldier just off to my right. Said soldier falls to the ground and suddenly there's a god-awful racket like an extended explosion or a UAZ starting up, and from the branches of the tree I'm hiding behind, one of the Beryl-suited Lieutenant's bodies drops down.

But that wasn't too peculiar of an oddity, usually only get it when running against the zone boundary for giggles. I keep at least 3 general purpose full saves for each of the major maps(Cordon, Garbage, Dark Valley, Agroprom above ground, Rostok, Warehouses, Wild Territories, Yantar), in addition to mission specific ones. I only use quicksave when I want to quickly try out an idea that might not work. Edit: if the rad perma-damage has already started, then a full save made after it has started will make that rad perma-damage part of the save. It won't clear the rad perma-damage status. Yeah. There's one Conroller spawnpoint just near the entrance to X18. Since it always comes from the same place, I promptly sanitize the area with M203 and VOG rounds as soon as it begins its warmup before its attack. Never seen a just killed NPC corpse fall through the ground. Blown into fences and walls, yes. And of course the 'fun' of being knocked over by an NPC you've just killed. In my current game, the Major was killed before I ever got to the bridge, so I'd no-one I could bribe for a pass through, and the Military already hated me for plinking their 3 man patrol. I find it easiest to take the rad damage hit going over the tracks, instead of trying to avoid the anomalies in the underpass; or deal with a protracted firefight every time I need to pass that bridge. Another rad perma-damage workaround is to use an invulnerability artifact. Another is to mod the actor.ltx configuration file so that radiation doesn't damage you. Other than the first (best) suggestion (find a savegame prior to damage), you will still be hit every second, which makes running a virtual impossibility as it removes the sprint. To avoid the bug, stay away from the hills and the Garbage tunnel south/west side. I think that can be fixed with the SDK, or maybe even just removing the radiation "anomalies" from the locations that have the instant-red radiation barriers, as it looks like the combination of the two is the recipe for infection. That crossed-skull icon is the "goodmode" (God mode) invincibility indicator. (See attachment -- if I can get the 382-byte file to attach!) You probably only see this in multiplayer normally, as the only access is via xrGame.dll. Maybe your game has an issue, stojespal. The other icons in ui_hud.dds include a house for sleeping, crossed fork and spoon for hunger, a cross-section of a head showing a brain for psychic damage (e.g., controller melee attack on Master difficulty -- Novice doesn't really hurt because you heal faster than you are damaged), radiation symbol, blood drop for bleeding, and a broken pistol. The poltergeists are supposed to be in the vanilla game, but a typo might be keeping them from appearing on the level. That same typo also broke some Rostok quests, but it has been fixed since the bardak 1.0003 bug fix attempt (the 1.0004 version is in the ZRP that SC2009 is using). That typo was supposed to have been corrected in 1.0004 as well, but others have also reported not seeing the two Rostok poltergeists (one per psy emitter shutdown), so maybe there's something else still wrong in vanilla. A controller could conceivably walk through Rostok, but normally you'll find controllers in Army Warehouses (a spawn location), Red Forest (walking to Pripyat) and in Pripyat. Other mods add them as part of a blowout spawn or other spawn. The ones in Agroprom Underground and in X16 are deliberate dev-spawns. Attachments:

To avoid the bug, stay away from the hills and the Garbage tunnel south/west side. That Garbage tunnel bug is where I was hit by the rad perma-damage in my first attempted playthrough. Before I installed SC2009, I didn't see those scripted poltergeists at all. After installing SC2009, I did not see them till after I'd dealt with X16, and then it was both of them at the same time, and not one at a time after dealing with each lab. The Controller in the village in the Army Warehouses I find to be the most annoying, as it takes too long before the little sod shows its face after you hear its warmup howl. The one in Agroprom Underground is a PITA because not only does it get to pull its psychic attack on you, that attack also unloads to inventory any grenades loaded into a grenade launcher you might have had ready to fire. What is it good for! ::dance:: The one in Agroprom Underground is a PITA because not only does it get to pull its psychic attack on you, that attack also unloads to inventory any grenades loaded into a grenade launcher you might have had ready to fire. No, this one was AWESOME. See, yeah, I've played up to X16 before on two occasions... first was called off due to motherboard death, the second due to RAID collapse. This third time, I was like, "I don't have quite enough ammo yet. But I do have this silenced MP5. I'll go over to the base and harvest some AK ammo." So I do so. And then I'm snooping around and I wonder, "Huh! What happens if I go in where you're supposed to come out?" So think about it. Where's that Controller? What do you go through before you get to him? Yeah. Security Service Ukraine really hates mutants. And Controllers really like the taste of Strelokov Brainfood.

From the normal entrance, Bandits then Security Service Ukraine, with a sprinkling of Bloodsuckers throughout for good measure. Bandits don't survive long enough to present any problems. No NV gear. And when The Marked One goes into the Agroprom Underground, he turns strictly to NV gear with the headlight turned off. The Security Service Ukraine are somewhat more of a nuisance as they wait where The Marked One has to pass through lighted areas to get at them. That spiral metal mesh staircase is the biggest nuisance area of all in the Agroprom Underground, as normally you approach it from the bottom working your way up, and the Security Service Ukraine can fire through the staircase down at you. Doing it from the top down means you get a free fire zone for raining grenades on them. No. Security Service Ukraine, Bandits, and mutants all really hate The Marked One. They will attack one another as targets of opportunity, but as soon as The Marked One is visible to any of them, they focus ALL efforts on inhuming The Marked One with maximum violence, not caring at all about getting in one anothers' way in their attack on The Marked One. They might like the taste, but all they get served are live grenades. Jenifur Charne

(They might go through one grating without hitting the metal, but four?) No. Security Service Ukraine, Bandits, and mutants all really hate The Marked One. I have to agree in most cases, and maybe the grunts just couldn't see me. But there's no reason they didn't. There were 2 crouched in the doorway to the stairs and one standing behind them, firing burst after burst into the MC (MC Agro in da hizzyyyyy). He kept "wwwWHOP"ing me with his voodoo rhymes (that's what I'm calling it from now on), so there was line of sight to me. And I could see the detail on my weapon, so I was lit up. They had line of sight down the side of the hallway, since MC Agro stands in the middle, not the side. I was just past the doorway closest to him in the hall, too. Try it sometime, this game is full of surprises like that. I introduced a friend to it... he tried playing on a laptop with a touchpad. Didn't get far with weapons, but he got pretty adept at training dogs and boars along towards his enemies. He got some from the bridge to follow him, woke up the 2 across the street from rookie camp, and stumbled them into an Army patrol. Yeah, he died, but it was awesome watching the battle between Army and Boar. Then watching the lone survivor boar chase off some dogs from the bridge. (edit: Just reread this and it sounds like I'm jumping Jeni in the face. Not so! I just had my coffee so I'm extra excitable. )

While I was editing the "goodmode" graphic symbol to fit in the 1K attachment limit for this forum, there were two other posts made that I didn't see. The "GoodGodYallMode" (heh, stojespal) icon is indeed green, but I flattened it to 1-bit depth (black/white) after I cut out the other seven icons. Armor-piercing (AP) ammo is better for shooting through metal; it will penetrate even the metal parts better than FMJ in this game. I rarely have much at that Agroprom underground point except for 9x19, though. I've noticed that some NPCs and mutants will focus on another target until you do enough damage to them to make them turn to you. But yes, normally "it's all about you, Marked One". ( "... inhuming The Marked One with maximum violence" -- LOL, jeniskunk!) I think you can fix that for mutants by changing the -2 entries in the first numeric column of the [monster_relations] section of gamedata\config\creatures\game_relations.ltx to -1. Edit: I forgot to mention to those of you using SC2009: You can use the ZRP feature to quicksave a named save by pressing Esc followed by S. The saves are like any other named save. Some general stuff related to this Oddities topic: Quirks In The GameI can't comment on the Flash link, Dimitroff. Flash is not on my Internet box, and likely will never be. Maybe with HTML5 and open-source codecs, I can view the same videos in the future that everyone else can view now. Right now not having it saves time, though. ;D

It was a cute animated version of the soccer announcer going "Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal!" Cool info on the relations chartfile, I took a look and got a math headache. May have to play around with it someday! And I had no idea metal objects were penetrable, that's really cool! I'm getting GoodGodYallMode more, I think. Here's my theory: When I change levels, I ALT+TAB out of the programme to read emails, apply for jobs, or pose on a MUSH. All you have to do is wait for the moody MoozE music to start up (it's a flatulent burbling), and you know the level is loaded and ready for you. That's probably throwing the game a bit of a loopdie.
