Continued from The Barricade
Chaos approached the pair of loner cautiously. One was a more experienced stalker, but still looked a little rouged up. "What happened to you guys?" he asked, making them jump.
"Don't sneak up on us like that!" the obviously younger of the two said.
"It's those damned mutts! They keep gathering around the entrance to Rostok and fucking things up for people like us!" the older of the two said with a sigh. "I'm out of ammo for my rifle and clubbing them won't make a difference..." Chaos smiled and pulled a few mags from his belt.
"Here, take them," he said. The stalker nodded and pulled the empty mag from his AK-74/2 and cocked it.
"I'm ready when you are," he smiled, tapping his companion on the shoulder. "Soon as we start shooting, make a run for the barricade and get help." The younger loner nodded and stood up, ready to run. The trio approached the barricade slowly. There was a dead loner in the area and Chaos guessed that he was likely a companion of theirs that hadn't been so lucky.
"Ready?" the loner asked the pair.
"Ready," they chorused. The stalker and the loner opened fire on the group of mutts, causing them to scatter. "Yurik! Go!" the stalker shouted, giving his companion a shove. The younger loner ran hard, jumping over one of the rat-hounds and dashing up to the barricade.
"Help me brothers! My friends need rescuing!" he begged.
"Petruna, Othik, go, I'll hold the fort," the lieutenant said, motioning toward the trench. They cocked their AN-94 Abakans and moved forward, meeting up with the pack of mutts and laying into them from behind. Between the two groups, they managed to kill off most of them and drive off the rest.
Chaos and the other stalker approached cautiously, keeping an eye out for strays. "Hurry up! They won't be gone for long!" Othik shouted, motioning to the pair. They nodded and ran across the bridge, hurrying to the barricade. "You two were lucky we were here," he added, causing Chaos to smile.
