So, I once again find myself playing Stalker: CS. DX10 is kinda fun to have, but the prettiness doesn't make up for the lacking gameplay. It's just not the same as SoC. The "new" zone is still a scary place, even worse at night (because it's PITCH FREAKING BLACK!) The thing is, yes, the nights are WAY more surprising, but I always find myself installing the good NV filter I have for SoC (the filter turns it black and white and has a super high light gain.) My point is, prettier environments are nice, but the lack of real gameplay makes it really suck.
I really wish there was a mod that took the X-Ray 1.5.07 engine and connected it w/ SoC. I guess I'll just have to wait for Stalker LA from the dez0ware team.

Yeah, CS's a bitch, what else is new? I didn't like the stuffy engine, the lock-on MIRV grenades and the trench coat bandits who are actually Optimus Prime in disguise. And that's only the beginning of the list.
On a side note, why does everyone keep calling the dez0wave team dez0ware?

I know that CS has a ton of drawbacks (the biggest being that I have to DL separate freaking mods for it for the most part.)

Just tried playing Stalker Crash to Desktop (aka Clear Sky). Tried to play. The POS could not even remain stable enough to allow me a chance to successfully complete the the first job you cop from CS on waking up.

Patch it... Mind you the swamps a the nicest place in the whole game, why would want to leave? Seconded. Jen, you'll have to patch it up to 1.5.0.7 AT LEAST to get it stable enough to play it vanilla. If you don't want to put up CS's general lack... substance, go DL the CS Overhaul from GSC's site. It fixes about 90% of the bugs and gives you the ability to get a lot of the good armors early (like the exo ^^)

Karc and Chaos, I'd already patched to 1.5.10 using the correct version of the patch for my copy of CS, before attempting to start trying to play.

In that case I have no idea... I'd ask Natvac.

IIRC it was Drag who started calling them dez0ware and Storm was the one correcting him.

In that case I have no idea... I'd ask Natvac. Wiped CS from the system and reinstalled it. This time I went straight to patch 1.5.10, instead of starting patching with 1.5.05 then doing patch 1.5.08 and finally patch 1.5.10. At least now I can run the game. I managed to not get killed before that scripted blowout hit. The swamps annoy me with their 'we're not gonna let you go there' high radiation barrier areas. Jenifur Charne

Well that was annoying, but they look nice, and they put a lot of effort into making the anomalies that sat over the water distort the area around them.

Learned the hard way that killing the CS guide in the CS compound is a critically BadIdea. Edited the relevant file so I could jump over the barriers, then used the Guide for target practice. Complete system lockup when I approached the corpse of the Guide in the compound, planning on looting the corpse. Only way to clear the lockup was to press reset on my system.

Couple of questions. Is there a way to leave the Clear Sky faction? Is there a way to make the Renegades win in the swamp?

Yes and no.
It's possible to join any faction aside from the mercenaries, military, ecologists, and the Monolith later in the game.
Renegades are enemies by default, and will stay that way until the end of the game. Essentially they're the same thing as bandits, but were simply put in as a definite 'enemy' faction to take the bandits' place (although it is possible to make the latter your foes as well).

Yes and no. It's possible to join any faction aside from the mercenaries, military, ecologists, and the Monolith later in the game. I was not asking about how to join other factions in the game. I was asking how to quit out of the faction you are forced without option to join at the start of the game. Yeah, I know the Renegades are enemy to the CS faction. What info I was interested in was seeing if there was a way to ensure that the Renegades come out on top in the influence battle in the Swamp, that the player gets drafted into being a part of.
