"So, this is Yantar. Peh. I'd have expected something more...impressive." thought Burner, "But hey, what can I do? It's an old abandoned factory yard. Where's the brainwashing? Where are the voices? Where are the famous zombies?"
The answer to the last question came out...in form of a moan. Burner turned around to see a shambling figure. It seemed to be unaware of the stranger.
"Holy...There's...Is that a zombie?"
He fired off a warning shot. The figure turned around. Burner clearly saw white eyes and a bloody mouth...Yep, this was a zombie.
"Oh HELL NO!", Burner thought for himself and drew out his USP. Closing his right eye, he fired four shots, and the figure fell. He quickly approached it and stabbed his knife into it's throat. One zombie less.
Having searched the zombie (finding nothing , except for a dead mouse), Burner felt a strange, high-pitched noise. Instincts told him to high-tail it out of there, which was exactly what he did...

Vasily was on the roof of the mobile lab when he heard the gunshots, looking out towards the factory he could see a lone figure dressed in a brown trench coat. Looking to the Ecologist next to him Vasily said, "You hold the fort Kruglov, I'm going to go check it out."
As Vasily slid down the sloped side of the concrete bunker he pulled out his PDA to check the most recent mutant sightings in the area, the log had the usuals on it, a few snorks, a bloodsucker over by the downed helicopter, and then he saw something that surprised him, reports of a Controller in the Factory. "I'd better get over there before that guy ends up as just another drooling moron." Vasily thought.
Slinging his LR-300 over his shoulder Vasily ran towards the Factory.

Sitting on top of the scaffolded construction within the factory yard, Seth tightened his grip on the sniper rifle pressed tightly into his shoulder. Two dead snorks lay on the ground beneath, dead from deep knife wounds. One wrong move, and he would give himself away to the mutant whose head was slowly bobbing in his sights, Seth thought. It wasn't his first encounter with controllers, as he had cleared out the abandoned village near the Freedom base many times with his companions. This however, was different. He could see numerous zombies in the vicinity, and alerting the psychic head of all of them to his presence would quite possibly be the end of him altogether.
Slowly, his pulse calmed, and the bobbing of the controller's head became of a regular character to him. He steadied his gun, aiming it for the optimum point as the mutant's head swung in and out of the crosshairs. The target was roughly one hundred and fifty meters away, heading for the factory entrance. Luckily enough, the merc that was there a second before had decided to leave.
Better for the sake of them both, Seth thought as his finger tightened on the trigger. Right when the controller's head appeared dead in the crosshairs, he saw movement outside of the factory walls. Grinding his teeth at the distraction, Seth moved his sights to get a better look at the intruder. Surprisingly enough, it was a scientist, a well armed one at that. A scoped rifle was slung over his shoulder, and he seemed to be wearing a modified ecologist suit.
The controller! he thought. But just as his aim turned back to the factory entrance, the mutant reached the gate and turned the corner. Cursing, Seth slid down the scaffold ladder, and with the rifle still in his hands, broke into a run towards the entrance.

Right as Vasily reached the top of the incline leading to the factory, he saw the Controller lope its way out of the entrance. "Shit!" he muttered, and slid to a stop behind an old cargo truck. He removed the lens cap from his scope and moved the still-intact side mirror of the truck to a point where he could see the psy-mutant. He had two options, either lean out from behind the truck and try to get a lucky few shots on the beast and risk exposing himself to it's potentially deadly psy-attacks, or he could try to sneak his way around to the pile of large pipes behind and a little to the left of the Controller, the only problem with that was the twenty or so yards between him and the pipes.
Vasily decided to use his original plan, leaning out, and placing the hand guard of his rifle against the truck's bumper, he fired a three round burst at the creature's head. The first two missed, but the third grazed the Controller's head. With a roar the beast looked directly at Vasily, and then came the pain, the unbearable pain, Vasily felt as if his brain had been torn from his skull and pounded against a cement wall.
After a few moments, the pain subsided and Vasily regained his senses. Ducking back behind the truck, Vasily shouldered his rifle and slowly began to creep around to the other side of the truck.

Paying no heed to the zombies turning around, dumbstruck as he passed by them, Seth tore across the compound to the entrance. Having reached the gate, he quietly slipped around it, and drew his USP, slinging the SVU on his back. He could see the controller a few yards ahead, advancing on a truck, behind which doubtlessly was the scientist he had seen earlier. Although the controller was unaware of his presence, Seth was beginning to feel the psychic emanations, blurring his vision, and making his ears ring.
Slowly, Seth took cover behind a dead tree, the controller now directly between him and the truck. He could hear zombies murmuring as they approached the gate from inside the compound. He had to make this quick, or else things would get complicated in a matter of seconds.
Aiming his handgun square at the creature's back, Seth squeezed off three HydroShock rounds. One went into the controller's spine, jerking the creature forward, the next into its neck, slightly off center. The last round, intended for the head, went off, hitting the truck. With a roar, the mutant fell to its knees. Seth's vision went red as his mind succumbed to a psychic outburst accompanying the creature's shriek of pain. His brain felt only raw rage as he dropped the gun and pulled the knife from his belt, sprinting towards the heavily wounded beast.

Vasily heard the gunfire, and the roar of pain from the Controller his vision blurred slightly, the majority of the psychic waves sent out from the injured beast being blocked by his Psy-Helmet. Peering around the side of the truck he could see the Controller, lying face down on the road with a knife stuck in the back of it's head, behind the beast was a stalker wearing the colors of the Freedom faction, he seemed to be in his late 20's or early 30's, no doubt he was dazed by the massive outburst of psy-emissions following the death of the creature. The zombies were approaching the stunned Freedomer so Vasily quickly ran over to him and kneeled next to him, raising his rilfe, he dispatched the remaining zombies.
Turning now to the still dazed Freedomer he shook the man's shoulder. "Get up friend, I think this commotion has disgruntled the Alpha of the local bloodsucker pack, It's not safe here." Vasily said. Helping the Freedomer to his feet Vasily said "My name is Vasily, I'm in charge of the mobile lab to the south. Can you walk?"

"SHIT SHIT SHIT! What the hell is this? Gunfire? SHIT! I gotta get outta here! But where? The base-AAAARGH!"
Before he could say anything, a bullet whizzed right next to his ear. A second one hit him...in the knee and he fell.
"AARGH! SHIT ! Well, fuck me now...If I'm gonna die, I'm taking you with me!"
Burner turned around and crawled behind a hollow log.He raised his head to see who his attackers were...Zombies. Two of 'em. Shambling, but both holding pistols...
"Aww, hell, not you ! Shit, I gotta think fast...Aha!"
The adrenaline rush helped him ...Grenades. He took a grenade off his belt and pulled the pin out.
"One, two, three!"
He could hear the shrapnel buzzing around him.
"That's the end of them...And me...Shit, is it going to end like this? "Bring a medkit...", he said. Well fuck bandages! That's only hiding the wound...I'm not letting it end like this!"

The psy-waves dissipating with the mutant's death, Seth's head cleared. He rose to his feet, pulling the knife out of the controller's head with a sickening squelch. "Thank you, I'm fine, although I probably wouldn't be if you hadn't picked off all those zombies. A bloodsucker we can deal with, although I've had a few unpleasant encounters." Seth jerked his head upward, revealing the disfiguring tentacle-shaped burns on his neck.
Sheathing his knife, he began walking alongside the ecologist. "My name is Seth," he began "I'm the head of the Freedom faction, although I was a scientist much like you when I first came here, to this Zone. Naturally, I have no quarrel with you folks, although I do have a propos-" Seth suddenly fell silent as his eyes, ever focused, caught a minute disturbance up ahead, the Freedomer held up his hand up to stop his companion as well.
The grass alongside the dirt road a dozen meters ahead of the two stalkers was almost unnoticeably shifting. Small, roughly foot-long patches of it were being matted down by some invisible force before rising back up. As soon as the two stalkers halted, the phenomenon seemed to stop. A strange stench filled Seth's nostrils, it was an unfamiliar mixture of one of a corrosive swamp, and a much more familiar one, of blood.

Burner was bleeding...badly. The wound on his leg was bleeding severely. He tore off a piece of his old trench coat and tied it around his knee, feeling like he just tore his arm off...Did the bullet go through the bone, or did it just penetrate the flesh? He ripped off another piece of his coat and stuffed it in his mouth...Time to check the wound...
"AAAAAAGH! AGAGHAGAAAAGAAAGH!"
Roaring with pain, he pulled and pulled until he finally managed to get the fucker out. No bone fracture, no artery damage...He was one lucky bastard. His laugh was silenced by a deafening roar...Could it be? Was that the roar of a...bloodsucker?

Seth heard a scream come up from ahead, around the area of the waste pipelines leading from the plant. In response, something gave a deafening roar nearby, reverberating across the valley of Lake Yantar. The Freedomer saw the air shimmer slightly as the bloodsucker burst out of hiding and sprinted away from its original targets towards the source of the yell. Just by looking at the disturbance it made as it moved, Seth could gauge the creature to be more than seven feet tall, even when half-crouched.
Seth's USP was out and cocked within a second, but the invisible mutant was already long gone. "After it!" he shouted to the scientist beside him "the guy won't last a minute against that thing, especially if the snorks get here too." And he sprinted after the beast.

Dropping to one knee Vasily took aim at the distortion and fired a burst off at the moving bloodsucker. His aim was true, the first three two shots hit the bloodsucker in the back, the third hit it right at the base of it's neck, severing it's spine.
Standing back up, Vasily ran to the injured Merc, kneeling next to him, he removed a medkit from his pack, "Where are you hit?" He asked. The Merc was dressed in a brown leather trench coat, and he seemed to have burns all over the patches of skin that Vasily could see. Just as it seemed that the Merc was going to respond, Vasily could hear the familiar growling sounds of a snork, there seemed to be three, rapidly approaching from the swamp, he could also faintly hear the panting of bloodsuckers, there seemed to be at least four of them.
"Shit! The pack must have heard the damn thing's roar!" Shouted Vasily. "You, Freedomer, cover me, I need to get this guy to the lab." Picking up the wounded Merc, he began to move as quickly as he could, towards the Lab.

Seth pulled his SVU to his shoulder as the pack came into view. Three shots were heard, and the snorks dropped to the ground, bullet holes neatly placed between their eyes. Another shot, and a bloodsucker stumbled and fell as well, a 7.62mm round piercing its chest. The remaining three bloodsuckers closed the distance.
In the practiced fashion of a pack, two of the mutants peeled around, outrunning the Freedomer. As he whipped around to pick them off, the third bloodsucker collided bodily with his frame. His rifle dropping to the ground, Seth was thrown hard against the steel fence encircling the lab, knocking the wind out of him. Within a second, the bloodsucker was on him, the beast's tentacles straining towards his throat. Seth instantly grabbed the creature barehanded by the neck below the deadly extremities, using the other to hold back the monster's arm from suffocating him. Nevertheless, the monster's second hand kept a choke hold around the Freedomer's throat, threatening to crush his trachea at any second. Seth was slowly running out of air, in a few seconds, he could black out, and there would be nothing to save himself, much less his new acquaintance from being drained of all their blood. He took the only way out.
Releasing the sucker's throat, his hand whipped down to his midriff, grabbing his USP. Instantly, the mutant's dissolvent-coated tentacles closed around his throat. The burn was almost painless, but he knew that in a few seconds, his trachea and esophagus would be exposed completely, and he would be invariably dead. His hand righted itself, pointing upwards as his finger pulled the trigger, the HydroShock slug making a considerable hole in the bloodsucker's chest. The mutant recoiled, momentarily releasing its grip on the Freedomer. That was all the delay Seth needed. Jamming his USP's barrel under the bloodsucker's chin, he fired again, spraying bits of brain into the air.
Despite the raw, burning sensation in his neck, Seth picked up his rifle and sprinted after the remaining bloodsuckers that had gotten past him.

Vasily heard the shots, and quickened his pace, sprinting as fast as he could towards the front airlock, Kruglov was still on the roof shouting something, the Ecologist did not see the distortions behind Vasily. There were only a few meters left to the airlock, "Damnit Kruglov, Shoot the bastards!" Shouted Vasily. Just a few more meters, Vasily nearly doubled his speed, pouring all of his remaining energy into his legs, then his foot struck something, a divot, barely the size of a tin can, Vasily lost his balance, the Merc slipped from his arms and they both went hurtling towards the ground.
Time seemed to slow down for Vasily as he saw the ground speeding towards the visor of his helmet, he only had a second. Turning himself around he drew his Colt and landed on his back in one fluent motion. Taking aim at where he thought the bloodsucker to be he fired, The .45 Hydo-Shok round hit the bloodsucker in the arm, causing it to uncloak and roar in pain. "Holy shit!" shouted Kruglov from the roof. The bloodsucker didn't stop, and before Vasily could react, it was on top of him. He felt the pressure on his neck, but it seemed that the bloodsucker had failed to penetrate the material of the suit. Unsheathing his knife, Vasily grabbed at the tentacles, holding them bunched in his fist, he severed them from the beast's head. While the beast roared in agony, Vasily picked his Colt up from where he had dropped it, and sent a slug through the monsters face.
Pushing himself up, Vasily took a look at the scene, The bloodsucker he had killed was on the ground in front of him, however, Vasily couldn't see the second one, "You don't have to worry about that bastard!" shouted Kruglov, the second bloodsucker seemed to have at least 15 bullet wounds in its chest. Looking back towards the gate he saw Seth running towards him. Looking up to the Ecologist on the roof Vasily shouted, "Help me get this guy into the lab." Picking up the Merc, Vasily turned towards Seth, "Are you injured?" He asked.

"I'll be fine" Seth rasped, picking up the merc by his legs while Vasily grabbed his shoulders. Together, they carried him into the mobile lab, setting him down on one of the cots in the sleeping quarters. Seth noticed a wound in his knee, as well as the fact that the man had hardly any equipment.
"What the hell were you thinking? Going into the Yantar factory and stirring up all the zombies like that without even proper gear!" Seth seethed at him in a hoarse whisper. He went over to the mirror, taking a look the damage the mutant had done to his neck. Adding to his old scars were a few new tentacle marks. Luckily, they hadn't penetrated to any of the major blood vessels, and the skin remained largely unbroken. He pulled out one of the Kolobok artifacts attached to his belt, pressing the thorny valuable to the wound. He nearly cried out in pain as the thorns pierced the skin, but then the pain all but faded away, the artifact's secretions slowly repairing the damage and healing salvageable regions of the wound.
Seth turned to Vasily, who was inspecting the merc "How is he?" he questioned.

Looking up towards Seth, Vasily said "He should be fine, it seems like he already removed the bullet, and there doesn't seem to be any major damage, I'll just stop the bleeding, disinfect it and bandage it up." Looking at the Kolobok in Seth's hand he said "Trusting artifacts to heal you is risky business. They never do the same thing twice in my experience." Vasily looked at Seth's neck, "And by the look of those scars this isn't your first close encounter with a bloodsucker."
Pulling up a chair for the Freedomer and sitting down on the Merc's cot Vasily said "Now tell me, What brings you to Yantar?"
