Lutiy saw the two bandits he had sent around the back bolt from the hill. Seconds later, a grenade exploded where they had just been standing. "Damn it!" he swore, the last thing he needed was living witnesses.
Sitting up and jamming the stock of his rifle into his shoulder, he let off several shots, all of which missed the sprinting escapees, who were a fair distance away. This provided a distraction for the bandits pinned below at the barricades, who too, started sprinting off. One was cut down by PKM fire, the second managed to go out of Rurik's sight. Lutiy aimed carefully at the new target, closer than the two who had run off. A single round hit the bandit in his leg, the man in black falling down. The next shot went into his head.
Lutiy stood up, watching the two remaining dots take off in the direction of the Dark Valley. Not good, he thought, but he could deal with the repercussions later. He slid down the ladder, walking over to the group of stalkers.

Chaos crouched down when the shooting began. He brought his rifle up, ready to shoot. He clicked off a few rounds, but they were quickly overshadowed by Rurik's light machine gun. Several more gunshots sounded, but they weren't from anyone in their own group. As soon as the shooting stopped, he listened to the Dutier's words before pulling the pin on a grenade and throwing it at the barrier.
He watched as it sailed down and exploded, sending some of the bandits scattering like leaves. Several more gunshots came then all was silent. Hesitantly, he stood up but kept his rifle at the ready. He switched to a fresh magazine, knowing from watching other stalkers that a few rounds could be the difference between life and death. "Is everyone okay?" he asked, looking around. Victor and the others seemed to be still standing.
In the distance, he spotted a single man approaching. Holding his rifle to his shoulder, he squared the sights on the approaching man. Rurik could determine friend and foe in a second, so Chaos left that task to him.

Rurik watched as the 2 bandits that were sneaking up on them fled, two more stood up at the barricade fire a quick burst cut one down, the other went down seconds later from the unknown sniper. Waiting till it was quiet Rurik motioned for the stalkers to follow him. "Come on be careful there might still be more bandits hiding." As he said this a man came out from the barricades, "I think this is the other gunman, it looks like another bandit, but carries himself differently to other bandits."
It had to be Kirill Malygin, are man who had served duty well especially in raids against freedom, he had fought with an almost insatiable urge to destroy them, Rurik was sure he had left the zone there had been no news on him for some time, but here he was. "Kirill" he exclaimed, "I'm surprised to see you here still. I assume it was you who was sniping those bastards." Rurik wasn't sure what to say, he decided to introduce the stalkers was accompanying, "Gentlemen this is Kirill Malygin, a former dutier."

Lutiy twitched imperceptibly. It had been a very long time indeed since anyone had called him by his real name. Nevertheless, the recognition brought a small amount of satisfaction to his clouded cynical mind. Coming closer, he finally spoke up "Rurik! It's been a while!" he was genuinely pleased to see his ex-compatriot, although their mutual hatred for Freedom was perhaps the only thing binding them together.
He took a closer look at the rookie stalkers. Most were fairly young, although hardly even a few years younger than himself, Lutiy thought to himself. "Yes, it was me, damn well" he answered the Dutier's query "although if it weren't for your arrival, I doubt I could have gotten rid of the scum," he began delving into a fabricated tale, one of the many he had gotten so used to weaving over the years. "I've been spending most of the time here, in the Garbage, scavenging for whatever useful thing I could find lately. I just got out of a gunfight, and was looking for a better place to store my loot when I saw those bandits approaching." he began twisting the truth of what had happened "I had nothing else to do but hide in the tower, where no one would see me, and wait till they left. But then you arrived, and we got rid of those vermin quite nicely together." he finished his story.
"So," he continued "Where are you folks headed?" He could only think of the loner encampment and Duty base at Rostok, which, he figured, would be a perfect place to lay low until the bandit mess blew over, not to mention he could get more info on Freedom and Seth.

Rurik listened before replying "I'm taking these gentlemen to Rostok, as we both know making a living from Sid's work is hardly worth the effort. General Voronin and the old Barkeep have real missions for them." Rurik looked about. "We should keep moving, I need to get these men somewhere safe, I've got things for the General, and need to organize a party to Yantar, you might be interested in tagging along, Seth was spotted there in the last few days." Rurik knew that would be of interest to his friend.
Turning to his companions "You four may want to check those corpses for anything of value." Rurik instructed walking towards the barricades, leaning against an old van watching as the loners went over the corpses. "Care to join us for the rest of the way?" Rurik asked Kirill.
Rusty was sprinting as fast he could several shots were fired and another 2 bandits had fallen, only he and his short companion, who despite his height was moving very quickly he seemed less phased by the running. Eventually stopping well out of sight from the barricade Rusty stopped to catch his breath. "What the hell happened!" He exclaimed.

Handing his Brother his shotgun and taking back his '74u, Sigbrand watched the figure approaching them carefully. Rurik seemed to know this Kirill person, but that didn't make Sigbrand any less suspicious of him, there was a certain air about Kirill that Sigbrand didn't like. "I don't like the look of this guy," Sigbrand whispered to his brother, "Neither do I, but I doubt he'll try anything with Rurik around." Harmund said. ----------------------------------------- Searching two corpses each: Sigbrand scavenged, x1 Bandit Jacket, x1 MP5, x2 Makarov PMs. Harmund found, x1 AK-74u/2, x1 RGD-5, x1 Makarov PM. [CHECK] ------------------------------------------ Turning to Rurik, Harmund said quietly, "Are you sure we can trust this guy? And who is this Seth person you're talking about?"

Turning to Harmund he replied "I'll be the first to admit Kirill doesn't look trustworthy, but he served me well and never questioned an order, he's smart enough to know when to run and when to stay. He had a lot of trouble with Freedom, they kicked out into the wild with nothing, he came to us and we gave him a means to survive." Rurik chuckled
"Ask Kirill about Seth when you have time, but I'll tell who he actually is, Seth is the leader of Freedom, he was researching parts of the zone and was going to return to the big land showing what he had learnt, but the general wouldn't allow him, he was offered a highly ranked position but he refused and went to freedom, he rose quickly due to his brilliant intellect." Rurik took a breath, "While he has many more men at his command, most are inexperienced rookies who don't want to be told what to do or wish a to rebel with no idea clue what they a facing. We take men who have some experience surviving in the zone."
Rurik added "If you ever make it to Pripyat and survive a raid by the monolith, you'll wish the whole damn zone had never existed. I don't know who the leader of monolith is, but I hope to one day put a bullet in his head. That might be the only thing that would combine our factions." Rurik trailed off.

Lutiy quietly trailed along the rear of the group, carefully taking in what had been said. Seth had been seen at Yantar? Just hearing the name made him seethe on the inside. What business could the Freedomer possibly have there? Nevertheless, Rurik had said he was planning to organize a party to investigate, and it would no doubt be worthwhile to go along.
He spoke up, it would no doubt be best to gain his immediate cohorts' trust at the moment. "Hey guys, we could make a stop by the railway depot, there was recently a gunfight there, and I put together a little stash. It's useless to me, but I figure some of you guys might like the stuff in there."
Listening in carefully as he scavenged two bodies (2 x MP5, HPSA, bandit jacket, Stone Blood), Victor grew fairly engaged. "A party to Yantar?" he asked. He had little idea of what Yantar had become in the Zone, however, he knew it was a rather scenic lake before. The area was no doubt dangerous due to its proximity to the North, but that was only a worthy opportunity. "You wouldn't need a spare medic for the trip, would you?" he asked the Dutier.

After trudging up the road for some time, Maginot and Adder finally saw the large piles of rusting machinery and junk that was the Garbage.
"Finally", said Maginot with a relieved sigh.
"-What a dump", said Adder, "haha, get it, it's a garbage dump, play on words, hur hur."
Her seemingly endless supply of sarcasm seemed to be running out, giving her an odd, disgruntled look. Maginot glanced at her face and burst out laughing.
"What?"
"-Your face...", said Maginot.
"-Hmph. Let's get going, your loutish laughter must have drawn all the mutants in the area to us."
They started walking again, finally arriving at an old, rusted gate that hung slightly ajar. People could be heard talking nearby. Maginot was the first to walk through the gate, followed closely by Adder, who glanced furtively around with the hunted look people suffering from paranoia seemed to have when strangers were nearby.
"Think they're bandits?", she hissed.
"-Err, no...", said Maginot, seeing several dead bandits nearby, "it looks more like they wasted the bandits."
"-As happy as I may be at hearing that, I'm not entirely sure they can be trusted...look at that guy! He has a machine gun!"
"-I don't think they'll rob us", said Maginot calmly. Adder hissed again.
They went cautiously towards the barricade.
"Hello, just passing through...what happened here?", said Maginot in his accented Ukrainian as he stepped over the ruined body of a bandit, who seemed to have been litterally sliced in half by heavy fire, painting the worn tarmac red with blood and gore.

Harmund was still searching one of the bodies when he heard someone speak behind him, grabbing his TOZ and whirling around he aimed directly at the person behind him. It was a loner, and there was another figure next to him, a woman? Harmund had only been in the Zone for a little under a week but he had never heard of a woman in the Zone before. Lowering his shotgun Harmund returned his attention to the man, he was speaking in Ukrainian.
Turning back to his group Harmund asked "Any one of you speak Ukrainian? I can't understand a word this guy is saying."

Maginot sighed heavily...these guys were in Ukraine and didn't speak Ukrainian.
"Okay, what happened here?", he said in the same language as his confused interlocutor. Adder laughed quietly behind him and shook her head, raising her eyes to the heavens and clearly making her opinion on the subject (walk away and let them rot) felt.
"-We could have just kept on going to Rostok instead of stopping for pointless banter, Maginot", she said.

Walking alongside Rurik, Victor carefully examined the two newcomers. A woman in the Zone, of all places? he thought. And moreover, a sardonic one? He was faintly amused at the prospect.
He looked around, the railway depot loomed before them, a silent mass, its gate half-ajar. He continued talking to the Dutier "This Kirill guy said something about a stash, reckon we should check it out?" he queried. The man didn't look entirely like most loners he had seen out in the Zone, but he and the Dutier seemed to be on good terms, so he had little more doubt in his trustworthiness.
Lutiy watched as the woman rolled her eyes, shaking her head. This one had quite a few lessons to learn in a fairly brief time, he concluded. Nevertheless, he was engaged.
"Sorry about the carnage," he told the man he figured was French from the saw-bladed accent the latter spoke with "but it really wouldn't be my fault. Whenever my Dutier friend here," he pointed at Rurik "yes, when he gets involved with more than four bandit rookies, the fight tends to get a bit messy" he explained.

Rurik was surprised at Victors boldness, "Your volunteering to come on a mission to Yantar? It's not what it used to be most men need to be dragged out there, but a medic will help, the zombies tend to be slow but some of them are armed pretty heavily and wearing Exo armor too." Rurik considered it, "We'll see what our orders are first ok?" Rurik heard Kirill mention the stash nearby "If you don't want it Kirill they may as well grab it."
2 stalkers were approaching they were hesitant but were joking about at the same time. Another surprise a woman in the zone. Kirill made a joke on the mess around them, chuckling again he replied "Wasn't as bad as our last raid on Freedom old friend." Rurik pushed himself from the leaning position to standing. Turning his attention to the newcomers "What are your names?" he inquired.

"I'm Maginot", said the French stalker, "and this is Adder."
He noted the looks of surprise Adder got. Obviously women weren't a common sight in the Zone, but Adder wasn't exactly the delicate flower kind either.
Adder was nervously drumming her fingers against her side, a nervous habit Maginot had noticed back in the Cordon when she was facing people she did not regard as trustworthy, which was practically everyone they encountered.
Maginot glanced at the Dutier with his machine-gun. How anyone would want to walk around the Zone with such a cumbersome weapon was beyond him...although the Dutier was very tall and well built, so it seemed fitting for him to have such a huge gun.

"Well if your location is Rostok you can either continue and tell the man at the gate that Lt. Rurik has given you permission to pass, or you can come with us, we'll only be slightly delayed, these gentlemen a going to pick up some equipment at the train depot." Rurik looked at the 3 parties gathered around the rather gruesome area, an odd day indeed he thought. It's only just starting too. By night time he would be at Yantar, and then who knew?
"Let's get moving mutants will starting to catch the scent of this place by now."
