Jackal came out of the Duty checkpoint and looked around, the landscape that lay before him was truly awesome in a manner that it completely stunned the viewer, maybe not by it's beauty but by it's grandeur... He was looking at truly huge piles of radiated scrap metal, semi-collapsed buildings and something which remotely resembled trees... A flesh was being chased around by blind dogs not far from the collapsed building and a boar came to it's rescue smashing the dogs away with his mighty tasks. Jackal began to walk down the road covered in cracks and holes, reminding him of the bombarded roads in all the war zones has ever been to, the Zone was a war zone in a way... Not a minute of rest could be found here, you could almost certainly say that at any moment there is someone or something fighting another someone or something...
The Duty checkpoint was now a dot on the horizon and Jackal took a turn behind one of the scrap heap mountains. He found a field of anomalies and an old tunnel with a train guarded by some men... He took out his little bag of bolts and began making his way through the anomaly field. Bullets would bounce off at enormous speeds when landed in the anomalies, or so they seemed to anyway. He was about half way through the field when he saw something red and glowing bouncing up and down to the left of where his imagined path lay. He took a turn and tried grabbing the artifact which was dangerously close to the anomaly. If he moved an inch more forward his arm would get pulled in. He grabbed the deformed red thing as his sleeve began to get pulled into what looked like a whirligig. He quickly pulled out his arm and began to study the artifact. It was a red mass of deformity... Slightly glowing. He checked his PDA for info and found it to be a Stone Blood. Not a very expensive or useful artifact as it apart from having a good effect on your health also made you more vulnerable to electric shocks and heat. He put the artifact in his bag and continued his walk back on the imaginary path.
He thought about Drakon. He would kill him next time they would meet... And it will be a long painful death, unless the time and circumstances will be against that...
When he got to the train he hid behind a concrete pillar laying on the floor. He peered over it and saw a man on top of the tunnel embankment and two more men wearing the same black trenchcoats were patrolling the train tracks. Jackal jumped and rolled towards the embankment out of the top guard's sight. He then, 'hugging the wall', began to step by the other two guards. He reached the tunnel and went inside to be covered by darkness. He peered around the corner of the tunnel opposite the side he entered from. There were four or so men standing in a group. Two wearing trench-coats one brown and one black, and the others in black leather jackets, the trench-coat's bodyguards.
The man in the brown trench-coat was bald and pale, the other wore a balaclava so Jackal did not know how he looked. The bald man seemed to act superior to the rest and gave out commands as fast as a hungry blind dog chases prey. "This guy wants to kill me! Do you understand that?! And there is another one helping him! They're meant to be coming up to the garbage about now! I don't want to die, so you should know what to do! It is either me or them dead!" the man in the black coat seemed to fear the man as he stuttered and shook as he replied "B-but Sultan... I can't send anyone after them right now! The loners are constantly pummeling us and we need all the men we can have here if we want to keep the income flowing! Without sufficient force the braver loners will kick us out of here! We need to keep this place to sustain their payments to pass to the Agroprom and back... The best I could do is hire someone for this job, but noone will want to do busyness with us!". At that moment Jackal thought it will be a good time to come out and propose his service before the men changed their mind and subject "I do!" said the Merc coming out of his cover. The bodyguards snapped to him and cocked their guns pointing them at him. Sultan was not as surprised as the rest of the bandits to see Jackal. "See... This is how shit your security is... No wonder the loners are about to kick you out of here! And you. Good work for sneaking in here... You can tell a good Merc just by looking at him... How much do you think I shall pay you to do this?". Jackal was surprised to see how the leader of the bandits was so relaxed about an unknown man sneaking up on him, for all he knew Jackal could have been there to kill him... "I charge afterwards, depending on how much effort it was... But I will need some money upfront for guarantees and for the necessary equipment...". "You shouldn't worry about equipment... It won't be as hard as you think... But I will pay you upfront as an investment in you work... And if you fail to do your job and I will be killed... Then my boys will take care of you so well that you will wish you were shot by the scumbags you are going to be hunting..." Sultan took out his PDA and with a few clicks Jackal's PDA received 5000 rubles from the bandit's account... "Now get the hell outta here and don't even think about coming back until you finish this, or I'll finish you...".
The guards escorted Jackal out of their controlled territory and pointed him towards the entrance to the Cordon, where in a couple of hours the two stalkers he was hunting were going to enter the Garbage- Pianist and Disciple...
