I'm not "fist waving", it's just official stuff from Proboards about illegal material IIRC.

It was just a figure of speech, but just out of curiosity, does Pb monitor this stuff then or something?

Nope, but we probably should abide by the ToS. Just on the off-chance.

It was just a figure of speech, but just out of curiosity, does Pb monitor this stuff then or something? From my experiences, no. The forum I used to go to had a full-scale secret porn art board, and was somewhat prominent. I know we were visited on that site by PB staff as well. Haven't seen any of those l33t agents come around here, though. Although they're like ninjas - nearly impossible to catch.

I've been playing Metro 2033 now for a few hours. It looks great, the atmosphere is very good - sort of claustrophobic. It feels a bit like good old X18 revisited. Or Agroprom underground, for that matter. That it's fairly linear doesn't bother me the slightest, on the contrary, you don't have to run around mindlessly solving random puzzles without a clear goal. The cutscenes are well made and the storyline is fairly solid (though it has very little in common with the book, which I am also reading at the moment - heartily recommended!). I can't say much about the weapon performance, since I usually don't interest myself with those details (I'm more in for the atmosphere). It reminds me a bit of Cryostasis, but without the utterly silly enemies. It's quite panicky when Artyom's last gasmask filter is clogging up and his breathing gets really asthmatic and wheezy. The voice acting is - like so often in these games - a bit silly sometimes, but over all acceptable, IMO. Artyom's own voice sounds quite weird and nerdy, though. I tried switching to Russian speech with English subs, but it turned out that much of the sometimes interesting stuff you hear from people isn't subtitled. Besides, it's not that fun to read the dialogue when you should be watching the splendid cutscene graphics. The economic system where you have to choose between using the superior "military grade" ammunition for shooting or for buying new guns, equipment or larger quantities of inferior ammo is quite interesting. I have yet to try the difference between the two different types of round, though, as I haven't yet fired a single "military grade" bullet. To summarize it: I find Metro 2033 a very enjoyable and exciting game and can't say I'm dissapointed. It responds well to my expectations.

I play Metro 2033 too. I like it a lot, though it was a bit short IMO, but then again, I played it a lot. The linearity didn't bother me at all.
And I really need to get me a copy of the book as well as a cope of Metro 2034.
The Tihar (that ball bearing air-pressure sniper rifle) is awesome! Cheap ammo, great optics that work good with the NVG.
Every place that you go through in the game has something that stands out, whether it's the atmosphere, the way it looks or the character that you're with [like Bourbon and Khan] who'll explain stuff to you. The Dry station and Black Station are probably my favorite maps in terms of stealth and combat. Especially on the harder difficulty settings.
On the Military-grade round vs the Dirty rouds - you'll notice the damage increase with the Kalash and the Kalash 2012. The Bastard SMG has poor damage with both types, but I find that the silencer makes it a tad bit more accurate overall. I haven't really played with the VSV sniper rifle
And some of the Russian voices sounded similar to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. NPC's - Artyom's voice in particular when I heard his Russian voice.
Did anyone else have some trouble with the gasmask in the way of having enough filters and the mask not being that badly damaged and yet, Artyom takes it off as if it was badly damaged while he's outside? Happened to me a few times in "Dead City" and "Outpost", quite annoying.

That thing with the mask didn't happen to me, at least not without reason. My first time in Dead City I had too few filters with me, so I had to go back to an earlier chekpoint and buy more filters, because those crappy gasmask filters are only good for a couple of minutes before you have to change them... I took to changing the filters as soon as I see that the meter is getting low. One of my favorite weapons is the sniper fitted revolver, but I agree that the Tihar is a great weapon! I'm not that happy with the throwing knives though. People just flinch as I hit them in the head... I like the fact that you can't escape bullets completely by hiding behind a thin sheet of metal or a wooden board, because the bullets smash through them and wooden floorboards like they would in real life!

The deadcity's full of dead stalkers whose stashes you can loot. Personally, I had no trouble, even though I came in there with like 3 filters.

@ Cath: The first time you put on your gasmask that filter lasts 15 minutes, every other filter afterwards lasts only 10. But that could just be the fact that some filters have been used? Not a big problem if you don't check out every room... for ammo, filters, medkits or other things, which I do... every time, but most of the time it's just wasted filters... I hardly bothered with changing filters when I was nearing the end of the game, at around the Polis/Library bit. Artyom changes the filters himself aswell. I liked the sileced revolver with optics and stock, in addition to the Tihar, just in case I ran low on ball bearings. So yeah I took a stealth approach most of the time. Didn't always work out for me, though so that's why I kept the awesome Kalash/Kalash 2012 for when things went wrong. With the throwing knives killing an enemy while they're facing you is hard. But sneak up from behind and the armour and helmet they wear changes to cardboard. Or I'm just a lucky bastard who hit them in the exposed neck between the armour and helmet each time. @ Burnzz: Some people are just lucky like that I guess.

If you sneak, you're bound to get a good enough silent kill with the knife even on the heavily armoured ones. However, I have yet to get a good enough kill on a Librarian, but someone told me that if you stare at them long enough, they go away. Or is that just a piece of book-only secret lie?

Miller mentions something like it, before Danila gets injured by the demon. The first Libraian, will roar and snarl at you for a bit, if you are standing still, before it backs up and jumps up to the floor above. The second Librarian you'll encounter, if you go through the door on the right, will roar and snarl at you too, but will eventually attack you. Then all Librarians will attack you.
The black Librarians , in the bowels of the library will attack you if you wake them up. But about 50 MGR's fired from the Kalash 2012 in the torso will kill it. I don't know about the Dirty Rounds, but I'd guess some 75 rounds. Or you could use three spike 'nades attached to the beast will kill it.

The whole shamanic journey thing at the end kind of sucked, in retrospect. I really would have preferred a final boss as a personification of that ghost-ish hallucination that follows you around during the game instead.

i actually liked that final part, a lot ;D it was like a dream
it was the complete absence of 'rpg' elements that dissappointed me, the things that made stalker so awesome for me. and the replayability
