Running towards where the chimera was, Karc saw a few of the strangely clad Mercs back up and in the fight, the giant mutant was nearly done for as it ran back and forth avoiding gunfire. Stopping Karc crouched slightly and lined up his shot, the beast stopped just long enough for him to line it up and fire.
The heavy round of the revolver mashed the smaller head of the chimera making it slump, the other head bellowed loudly but it was bleeding out quickly now and barely moving from where it had fallen. Standing and moving towards the fallen beast, he lined up the other head and fired twice, emptying the revolvers chambers and pulverizing the other head. With the chimera dead Karc drew the Falchion and cut off one of the long claws from it's front paw, the long, sharp claw would be useful as a last resort item. Tucking it away he turned his attention to the unusual Mercs.
"Gentlemen, I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting one another." Karc said addressing Sejanus, unsure if these Mercs were even aligned with the faction, or simply just free lancers. "I'm Karc, this Ibrahim,"The other merc was some distance off slowly making his way to where Karc was. "my 2ic when I'm not working with my other team. Speaking of which." Karc typed out a message to Schwarz sending it quickly before pocketing his PDA and smiling behind his mask.
"There's a group of bandits heading north, up to Zaton, one of them is doing "research"... Actually the man doing the research isn't a bandit as far as I know, but certainly has the attitude of one. Either way, I'm curious about his research, as is my superiors, but enough about me, what brings you this far north?" Karc asked, while checking his PDA, the bandit group had taken an open path towards the old forestry building presumably, it was used by most factions when exploring Red Forest.
While waiting for a response a reply came, letting a slightly sadistic chuckle out before cutting it off.
So that's why he needs to be so far from the general population...Karc thought.

After the chimera stepped off his chest Sejanus lay helplessly, trying to muster the breath and strength needed, he could hear the continuous detonations of grenades and the sounds of the chimera roaring - more enraged than ever.
"Burn! Be cleansed! The monolith demands it!" Sejanus didn't have time to wonder what the monolith was, the grenades had stopped falling and the chimera was once again focussing it's baleful gaze on him.
He put his hand up to his face and saw the blood now on the fine leather of his glove, he drew his Colt and aimed at the chimera, waiting for it to charge at him. Sejanus then noticed the man lying prone on the edge of the clearing, seemingly unaware of the monster now readying itself to pounce. He winced as it did so, but at the last second the man seemed to notice and he rolled to the side, drawing his pistol and pointing it at the beast which had landed where he had been a second ago. The mercenary fired a burst from his gun and hit the chimera in the shoulder, which proceeded to bat him into a tree.
As the stranger struggled to rise the mutant leaped over to him and pinned him to the tree, it skewered head leaking acid all over the man's leg. Just as the monster was about to bite the mercenary's head off, the crack of an SVU sounded and a bullet flew into the chimera's foot, blowing a toe off. Sejanus looked to where the shot had come from and saw another mercenary running into the clearing.
The praetorian took this as his chance, firing at the chimera once and taking care not to shoot his supposed ally. Before he could line up another shot a round smashed into the smaller head of the chimera throwing it off it's feet and blood flowed from a ruptured artery. Sejanus then saw a tall man stride into the clearing, encased in armour with a skull on the face of it's sphere helmet and holding a large revolver. The newcomer strode over to the stricken beast and shot it's second head, silencing it. He then turned to Sejanus. "Gentlemen, I don't believe we've had the pleasure of meeting one another.I'm Karc, this Ibrahim," Karc said, gesturing to the man trying to get up from the tree. "my 2ic when I'm not working with my other team. Speaking of which." Karc pulled out a PDA and started typing on it and then put it away after the sent message bleep had sounded. He then proceeded to explain his mission to Sejanus. "...but enough about me, what brings you this far north?" Karc queried.
Sejanus walked over to the chimera and removed his blade from its head, then sat down on the corpse and started to clean it with some oiled cloth from his pack. "I am Hastur Sejanus, Praetorian Warlord. I have been sent here by my superiors to find an artefact known as the heart of the oasis. Zaton is on the way to my destination and since you and your men stopped me and mine from being eaten by this monster, I wouldn't mind repaying you by helping you catch this madman."
Without waiting for a reply Sejanus sheathed his sword and walked over to his last remaining Praetorian, picking up his SCAR - H along the way. Helping him up he gave the man a bandage and then moved on to the two legionnaire corpses, taking their swords and scorpion pendants. "You will not be forgotten." he said quietly and put coins on the eyes of each man. Sejanus then tended to his own injury, taking off his glove and feeling the cut on his face. It would need stitching. "Do any of you have something to sew this up with?"
((Sorry about the delay guys, i had to redecorate my house. And about the Chimera, i gave it acid to add a little more variety and make it more of a challenge for the characters, it is the zone, so a lone acid-spitting Chimera is entirely plausible.))

Pyre saw that the chimera he was using as a frontal cover to prevent the infidels from shooting at him as he bombarded them had been slain. However much he wanted to destroy these pathetic excuses of men in the name of the monolith, he knew that he was outnumbered and running low on explosives.
"The fire of the monolith shall slay you in due time! Be prepared for hell shall be unleashed!" Pyre screamed, and with that he retreated. Running while throwing back the last of his stockpile to cover his escape, and possibly get lucky with a kill, he dashed through the trees back towards safety.
After a while he lost sight of the group he had bombarded and assumed they had stopped following, or at least lost his trail. He slowed his pace to a walk and returned to Pripyat to restock his supplies, preparing to cleanse the zone of those the monolith deemed unclean.

"Praetorian Warlord," Karc said, interested by this unusual title. "That's an ususual mantle to bear, especially here. I've heard minor rumors of this artifact, but have no idea where it would be. But seeing as we are both heading in the same direction I'll welcome the company, we should head for a safe house further north, hopefully, it'll be a clear trek..."
Turning when he heard the shouted threat from afar, followed by another explosion, spinning around all the group saw was dirt and smoke settling into the ground.
With a sigh Karc continued, "I suspect our journey is going to be less than easy unfortunately. I suspect that madman is some sort of Monolith fanatic, but clearly not entirely lost as he clearly choose to retreat rather than attack blindly like most monolith troopers would." Karc added. "Also here." Passing a small first add kit to Sejanus.
Using his PDA's map he lined up the safe house as well as checking for Giovanni's signal from Schwarz's last update, they were at the old forester shack, another safe house in Red Forest, less so now that the old man disappeared.
"The bandits are at the old forester's building, I don't think we should go there with night approaching, one sentry can easily spot anyone coming from about half a kilometer away, and mutants will most certainly be out in larger numbers to hunt. For now let's move." Karc said, loading the location to the group.
"With some luck we can be at the safe house in 2 hours. We'll plan our next step there." He added as they walked.

Ibrahim had gotten up from where the Chimera last left him and watched his leader put two bullets into the beast's main head and then cut out the claw. While Karc walked over to the interestingly dressed Mercs, the Chechen knelt down on one knee and took out a first aid kit from his bag. He treated his hand and head and bandaged them both up. The bandage went around his head across the forehead, covering up the right temple which was bleeding. He then put his aviators on and walked over to the rest of the group whilst putting the medicaments back into his bag.
Just as he walked over Karc said "This is Ibrahim, my 2ic when I'm not working with my other team" after which Karc continued on to explain the purpose of their journey. After which the Merc introduced himself "I am Hastur Sejanus, I have been sent here by my superiors to find and artifact known as the heart of the Oasis. The Heart of the Oasis. Ibrahim trailed off from the conversation into his own thoughts. He had heard many stories of the artifact. Rumor had it that it is somewhere in Jupiter, but no one knew for sure. When Ibrahim was new to the Zone he was astonished by the tales of the thing. Heals your wounds, stops you bleeding, cures your hunger. Impossible one might say, but it was the Zone. Another question was why this man was searching for it, regarding he was a 'Praetorian Warlord'. Strange title, but it didn't matter to Ibrahim as long as Sejanus was a good man.
"With good luck we should be there in 2 hours" the Chechen snapped out of his thoughts and heard his leader. Ibrahim attached the ACOG to his gun and checked that the silencer was on firmly. Then he reloaded his pistol whilst he was cathing up with his superior. The newcomers were slightly behind them. Ibrahim turned to Karc and quickly, but meaningfuly said "Thank you" and then faced the road again.

As they walked Sejanus wondered at the marvels of the zone, this 'Red Forest' had a mysterious allure to it that he had never seen in any of the forest back in Italy, or any other place he had visited on his travels with the Praetorian guard. Neither had he seen a more deadly environment in his lifetime, and he had been in more than a few - the unnatural cries of mutants could be heard echoing through the forest along with the odd scream or burst of gunfire and more than once Sejanus saw lambent eyes in the bushes at the corners of his vision that vanished when he turned his head to get a better view. Deciding that it was time for some fraternisation Sejanus looked around at his new companions - His remaining legionnaire seemed to be getting friendly with the other group's sniper, he nodded in approval as his man looked back at him. Ibrahim - the merc who had lead the charge to Sejanus' aid was far out in front of the group, seemingly seeking solitude from the others. The Praetorian decided to thank him when they reached the safe house and he had more time to use his charm to work around the man's unfriendly habits. Anyway, the leader of the mercenary group - Karc - interested Sejanus much more, he seemed to be able to make men follow him willingly anywhere, with no complaints or anything else of that sort; a quality Sejanus had only known his father and himself possess, a quality that would be highly prized within the ranks of the Praetorians. Plus, Karc had a Falchion sheathed across his back and it was very rare that the Praetorian had ever met a man with such a weapon and was even rarer that the owner had the skill to use the heavy bladed sword.
Increasing his pace until he was next to Karc, Sejanus said "A Falchion is a hard weapon to wield with a swordsman's finesse, you must have no small skill in the use of that weapon. How was it that you came across such a fine blade?"

"Not a problem." Karc said in reply to Ibrahim.
Remembering that he hadn't reloaded his revolver yet, shaking the spent cases from the large caliber firearm he slotted 5 round into chamber before flicking his wrist snapping the chamber back into position before spinning it and holstering it.
They had made a good time so far, which pleased Karc.
He could hear someone approaching his left, looking he saw Sejanus. When he was finally close he asked.
"A Falchion is a hard weapon to wield with a swordsman's finesse, you must have no small skill in the use of that weapon. How was it that you came across such a fine blade?"
Nodding his head to the side in agreement before replying.
"Well I've had a knack for weapons even before I started in this industry, but knives are my thing, guns a good and effective at what they do. But knives and blades make it more interesting and personal. As for acquiring this thing, I got from a fellow Merc who was killed by a Poltergeist, since he didn't really need it. You know, being that he was dead and all." Karc said.
They were nearing the location of the safe house.
"Alright were close, the building is an old basement, but it still has power and ventilation so it's a good place to lay low and get some rest." Karc said looking around for the entrance.

"Alright were close, the building is an old basement, but it still has power and ventilation so it's a good place to lay low and get some rest" Ibrahim heard Karc say.
Finally, they were at a stop. Karc led the way down into the basement, the new Mercs following with Ibrahim and the sniper at the rear of the group. The place was quite spacious and seemed to have been used a few times before, having some traces of life. Ibrahim quickly took up a place in the furthest and darkest corners of the room. He sat down in a lotus position and put his backpack before him. He took out his Makarov and the Galil. Ibrahim then went on to maintain the guns in as close to pristine condition as he could, he treasured his weapons more than anything in his life, keeping in mind he had nothing else. When he was done he put his pistol back into his belt holster and the rifle against the wall, ready to grab and fire at any moment. The Merc then opened his bag and took out a med-kit he used earlier to treat his wounds. Ibrahim took off the bandage covering his head and treated the wound with some H2O2 to purify the still slightly unhealed wound. It needed air to heal properly and it was not getting it under the bandage. Putting everything back, the Chechen took out a chocolate bar. A rare treat for the Zone. But that was going to be Ibrahim's breakfast, lunch and dinner for that day, as he never ate much, not at all. It was a skill, if you'd like to call it, he git from his childhood in the Chechen war times. Food was scarce and sometimes he had to go for days without food sometimes. That helped Ibrahim survive. High stamina and nearly no need for food.
With all the preparations for the next morning done, Ibrahim leaned back against the wall still sitting in the lotus position and fell into a light slumber.

Looking up Karc checked with PDA the signal he'd been tracking was now bouncing wildly between areas.
"Fuck they must have figured out I was tracking the whelp." Karc muttered, picking up his rifle and his pack he looked to Ibrahim and spoke.
"We have to move, now they've scrambled the tracker I placed, and we have to catch up to them as fast as we can, even if that means traveling with less than advisable numbers." He said giving a vague nod at the group they'd rescued only hours before.
"You've got 15 minutes to get ready." Karc said, walking out of the entrance quietly letting the others sleep, he had no intention of allowing the group to get too far ahead of him.

"You've got 15 minutes to get ready" Karc said, as he was leaving the bunker. Ibrahim sighed. He didn't even get a slightest bit of sleep. Well. Nothing unusual for the Zone life. He gathered his things and got up. Looking over the rescued Mercs he shouted with a harsh Chechen accent "Wake up! We're moving out in 15!". The Mercs must have been army-trained. They sprung up instantly from their light sleep and got their equipment in less that one and a half minutes. "Well, that was quick" Ibrahim remarked "You all ready?" he asked Sejanus. "Anytime" "Let's go then" The group exited the bunker and Ibrahim searched with his eyes for Karc.

Karc waved so Ibrahim could see him.
"We'll head for Yanov, no time to waste." Karc said, he was feeling the effects of little sleep and a lot of walking, thinking back to the alternative of guarding Yantar, Karc pushed on, the new followers were quick to get ready much to Karc's surprise.
Shaking his head he lead the group towards Yanov, with only the briefest of encounters with several blind dogs, they made excellent time taking a little used track that had been discovered by a group of Mercs. Looking over the reports and maps of Yanov, Karc knew the group would head for the station, there wasn't any other place for them to settle. There was a scientist bunker there, if reports were to be believed it was similiar to the one in Yantar, if a little larger, and had more staff.
Schwarz's report listed several places of interest that they could use for spying purposes and as a temporary base.
As night fell the group stayed close, moving a little quicker in the hope to reach Yanov by morning.

Sejanus cast his gaze around him at the scraggy bushes and irradiated grasses of the Jupiter district as he walked along the cracked concrete road towards the Yanov station, it was raining, though not heavily - more like the kind of rain that never stops and annoyingly gets through your clothing, eventually wetting you to the core. Sejanus had used the time of rest in the forester's hut for quiet meditation and prayers for his lost men, adding them to the long list of prayers for the people whom he had fought with, and who had died in his stead. These prayers gave him the strength to walk on through this desiccated wasteland of thieves and opportunists and they reminded him that his gods were always watching him.
In the distance, he could see a pack of blind dogs harassing a lone boar, their forms slightly obscured by the rain that was falling in wet sheets around them. The boar was putting up a brave fight and even though it was outnumbered the mutant was holding its own; even as he watched, it charged one of the dogs and impaled it, yelping on its unnaturally large tusks. The dog stayed there for a moment, only to be thrown into one of its peers when the boar bucked its head.
The fight then moved out of his sight as the group walked on and Sejanus wondered whether that boar was a sign of from the gods - he could not help but draw similarities to the Roman Empire's long and arduous conquest of the proud and savage Gallic tribes and yet the praetorian could sense a depth to which at this moment his thoughts could not dive. He banished this philosophical mental thread for the time being and focused his mind on the road ahead. As the doors of the Yanov station came into view Sejanus jogged up to Karc so that he walked next to the wild-haired mercenary. "So, friend. How long have you been a wanderer of this gods forsaken place?" He wished to find out a little of his companion's story - the Praetorian liked to know the men he worked with.

"So, friend. How long have you been a wanderer of this gods forsaken place?" Sejanus asked.
Karc thought quickly, "I've only been in the zone for about a year, maybe less, it's hard to keep track of time here, but I started with nothing a worked my way up the ladder, I could try and get a full level 5 clearance, but I'm not prepared to sit around send others to do my work." He said, "But before entering I was a free-lancer merc, any job that need a trigger I would sign up, seen a lot of the world due to my work."
Looking at his hand he added, more for effect than actual information.
"These hands have seen a lot blood."
Yanov station lay ahead, but something was amiss, there was sort of have hanging over the place, he couldn't tell from where they were. As they neared there was a pile of fresh corpses. Stopping a few feet from the bodies Karc shrugged, most of the corpses seemed to be bandits, possibly the same ones that they had been following.
"Strange," Karc muttered, "maybe they angered someone?"
Once they reached the doors they found them to be locked. Banging on the door a reply came from within.
"Whose there!?"
"Mercenaries, half a dozen of us." Karc replied.
After a few moments the sound of a heavy bolt slide back and the door swung open, with several men aiming at them. Another tense moment passed and they finally allowed the group in, a couple of men looked truly terrified.
"Is something the matter?" Karc asked looking around, the ground had several pools of blood and some of the furniture was broken.
"We were attacked by someone, he appeared unleashed hell and left, that group over there seemed to get the burnt of the attack." One of guards said, slightly cowed from mentioning the attack, he nodded towards a group Karc recognised instantly.
"Oh, the extra security probably isn't necessary but it's a nice touch, I doubt you'll be attacked again so soon." Karc said before moving to a table that was still intact and spread a map of the area out and pinned it's corners.
"We can check these area's for item's of interest and st up look outs." Karc said indicating several areas that had interesting equipment and elevated structures."
((Either of you can reply))
