Karc drew his pistol and followed the erratic path of the snork as it darted this way and that, finally it crouched down getting ready to launch itself at him. Firing several shots at the mutant made it react prematurely, having to avoid the shots it rolled to the left and closed in to attack, darting quickly to avoid the gun aimed at it, when it was in range it tried to kick out Karc's feet but jumped, landing heavily, he stepped forward and kicked the mutant in the chest, sending it skating backwards several feet, as it regained it composure Karc lined up it's head and fired, the round pulverised the creatures head, and transferred it to the ground behind it.
"Well, that was entertaining." Karc said, checking the magazine of the pistol finding only had one shot left he loaded it back in and casually fired it at the snork Shade had killed. The bandit turned around and gave a quizzical look. "Double tap?" Karc suggested, shrugging has he ejected the empty magazine loaded a fresh one into the pistol and holstered it.
"Pretty fancy footwork back there, and some skill with a blade too." Karc said, having noticed Shade's method of attack on the snork.
Walking along the hall they came to another large room, it was mostly just a mess of upturned desks and chairs, clicking on his light, Karc stepped up onto one of the desks.
"This must of been part of the facilities administration areas, there might be something to tell us what went on here. Karc said, pulling the handle on a filing cabinet only find it locked. "Don't worry, I'll pick this lock." He added, drawing his pistol again he aimed at the lock and fired twice, punching the locking mechanism out of place.
Pulling open the top draw were several folders containing financial records, flinging the folder over his shoulder he turned, "Let's continue, there must be a safe or a vault somewhere else."

“I was trained to hold a knife before I could walk”, the assassin gave a small laugh at the Mercenary’s comment as to his foot work, “and did not have the luxury of good firearms until I started my career, so I fall back to … older methods of elimination.”
It was odd that the bandit found himself even mentioning a part of his early past. He did not like to think of such times before his rise in the belly of the underworld. His childhood was not a happy one, and he put forth his best effort to forget that past. He give his head a shake and pushed the notion back to the far depth of his mind. He was going to need a drink after this hit.
Shade watched as Karc looked over the documents in the filing cabinet before hastily discarding them. In truth the financial records would fetch a price with one of the traders but it was not part of the missions and so had to be forgotten.
“Once you’re done with your paperwork,” the bandit said as he patted his newly found artifact, “I suggest we go to the southern corridor, looks like some kind of living quarters there.”

“Once you’re done with your paperwork,” the bandit said as he patted his newly found artifact, “I suggest we go to the southern corridor, looks like some kind of living quarters there.”
Stuffing several pages of interest into his pack Karc turned and faced the Bandit.
"Agreed, I'll go first, hopefully we'll find something or interest, or someone, but judging how these mutants a lumbering about freely I have my doubts we'll find anyone," Karc said with a nod at the plan, "alive that is." He added in haste.
Quickly checking the mag in his pistol he made his way down the corridor looking for any movement that would give away an anomaly or mutant activity, it was quiet except for the occasional creak and groan from the facility somewhere.
Part of the corridor opened out showing the full layout of the facility. It was dimly lit but it's massive size made Karc lower his shoulders a little, it was bigger than the blueprints had shown. Though he'd suspected this he didn't relieve just how much bigger. Several rooms had lights and movement, just mutants creeping about looking for a meal.
"I hate when it's this quiet in a hostile environment, either we've missed the party or there's something really horrible still to come." Karc muttered quietly after they'd moved on.
As they neared the door to the suspected living quarters, Karc leant against the door to listen, but couldn't hear anything. Looking over the door for any possible tampering or traps he gingerly turned the handle and eased it open, stepping in he quickly surveyed the room along with Shade, it was a mess of assorted things clothes, tipped over furniture and cutlery. Something about the mess seemed strange to Karc, it was as if it was done by another person, it was too neat for a mutant as things were piled up and left.
Looking to Shade and asking with some confusion, "Someone else was here, searching for something, it's too neat for a mutant, everything has been sorted and stacked. Or maybe it hiding something?"
Nudging a pile of rubbish with his boot Karc checked it but turned up nothing.
"You find anything?" He asked.

The Mercenary was right the heaps of broken furniture, clothing and other miscellaneous items, it looked like they had been searched toughly . The Russian knelt down to inspect a musty old lab coat. Embroidered in the jacket in black thread where the words; LAB X18 PERSONAL P. GRETCHANINOV.
“X18, the lab in the Dark Valley,” said Shade handing the coat over to Karc, “looks like the intel on this place is right... P. Gretchaninov doesn't ring any bell for me, how about you?”
The assassin continued to look through the heaps, looking for any clues on what the mysterious person was looking for. Coming to a wooden desk he ran his fingers along the underside of the top. One of his digits hit some kind of notch of rough splintered wood.
Flipping the desk over, he found the remains for a hidden compartment. Whoever was in here before them must have acted in hast because a small piece of paper was hanging of the debris.
“Found something, seems our thief had come looking for some hidden docs,” he replied as he worked free the paper. On the faded note was a diagram of some kind of odd looking emitter, “left this piece behind.”
" From the information on our target he didn't have any scientific back ground or interest. You know him better would have come looking for documents like this?"

Karc thought, Jurgen had never been the type to take an interest in scientific pursuits, but not all areas of of scientific research were talked about.
"Not sure, X18 was used for breeding new creatures wasn't it? So it would seem the late Doctor P. Gretchaninov may have had some experience in that field, I'm more knowledgeable on X16 in Yantar sadly." Karc said, looking over the diagram.
"This is only part of the design, it must be on several pages, see these symbols here, here and here." He said pointing to the symbols, "You would hold all the pages over a light source and line up the symbols to reveal the full design. Best keep this for now."
Giving the room one final look over before deciding to move on. He was thinking on several things at once, why was an employee of X18 here, was Jurgen breeding new mutants, what was the strange emitter blueprint Shade had found.
Clear your thoughts. Karc thought to himself, he needed a cool head, the pieces would fall into place in due time. All they had to do was proceed forward and collect the pieces first.
"Let's move, I don't think there's anything else here worth scavenging." Karc said easing the other door open and looking out before nodding and stepping back into the dim corridor of the maze like complex.

“You go ahead Merc,” Shade gestured towards the door, “I’ll give this place a last look over.”
After Karc had left the room the assassin gave a deep sigh, plot was thickening. This mission was secrete, only a small handful of people besides themselves even knew where they were. The thought of back up was a foreign concept to the assassin, but was now very welcome. After all should they fall into one of the targets traps, having a wildcard in your hand was helpful.
Pulling out his PDA he typed out a message to Erwin, the woman that he’d meet up Red Forrest just before this mission. Her mutation would prove to be quite the boon, if the worst was to happen. With the message he gave a detailed map of the path they had taken. He sent the messaged then rejoined the Mercenary, the question linger whether or not Jurgen was researching or creating mutants.
“Things just don’t add up,” mutter Tosya, “emitter technology was being studied up at the scorcher and old Limansk. This complex must have been a hub for the X labs; I don’t think the egg heads of that time used this place for any of their research.”
“The target might have found the blueprints but not the components,” he continued, “He would not have had the knowledge to manufacture them or even the means. Either he had help or he’s been scavenging for them.”

“The target might have found the blueprints but not the components,” he continued, “He would not have had the knowledge to manufacture them or even the means. Either he had help or he’s been scavenging for them.”
Karc thought as they walked ahead.
"He was working for Midas when he defected and if anyone could get something it was Midas." Karc said while compiling his thoughts. "But he definitely never had the aptitude to manufacture anything like that emitter. I doubt many people with the limited resources within the zone could."
"Judging by the size of this place he's probably stockpiling supplies to do both, but there is no evidence apart from those blueprints and a scientist from X18. Strange we haven't encountered anybody else, Jurgen and Midas had a sizable following when they defected and it's safe to assume some would of followed him."
Karc said flatly and informatively. A thought crossed his mind.
"And he'd need test subjects wouldn't he?" Karc said letting the grim idea settle. "It's certainly getting stranger and stranger, or as said in Alice in wonderland, curiouser and curiouser." Karc said as they came across another intersection.

“I never understood the fascination for Lewis Carroll,” the assassin said, “out in the Bigland Midas was a damn good weapons dealer, one of the best in fact. It was very…misfortunate that his organization was caught in that crack down.”
Taking the left rout of the intersection, the bandit checked for tarps, disarming any that he found. Surely there had to be a better way, other than this crawl of a pace. Tarp locations where broken up by a few anomaly patches. Shade soon found himself hoping that they would ran a crossed a mutant or even a hostile party.
His wish was granted when they came upon a very unhappy bloodsucker that found it’s self in a net. A quick slash of a knife later and the best lay dead. Shade wiped the blood from his blade on the fur of the best then continued on. As the two forged ever on ward, the sounds of a rather joyful conversation where heard echoing down the one of the corridors.
“I’ll scout out a head, to make sure it’s not some elaborate trap, “whispered Shade slowly stalking a head. Craftily the assassin kept to the darkness, just as his namesake implied. Turning a down a hall he came to the source of the clamor. A group of boisterous Mercs sat around a small makeship table drinking Vodka and smoking. The group was five in number and Tosya identified at least two of them as turn coats having seen their mug shots posted at the mercenary HQ. The bandit promptly returned to relay the information to Karc.
“Seems your theory on followers is right, there are five turncoats in the room up ahead,” reported Shade, “Jurgen is not among them, but it seems finding him won’t be so hard anymore.”

"Nor do I, the reference seemed relevant is all. I suspect many think Midas grassed and fled here, I'll reserve my opinion, but it wouldn't surprise me." Karc said poking the dead bloodsucker that hung in the basic trap.
Quieting down when the heard voice ahead and Shade sneaked out to see who it was. Moments later he returned relaying the information.
Crouching down Karc thought over a plan quickly, "We're gonna need at least one of them alive. I know you like you knives but we need to hit them as fast as we can," Peering carefully out to see how they were positioned and ducked back out of sight. "You hit the the two near the desk, I'll hit the two by the table, that'll leave the one lounging, we need to rush him. We need him to talk, so whatever happens to him... Never happened" Karc whispered, Shade glanced out again, possibly getting his bearing and preparing to attack.
Karc clutched his rifle and clicked it into full auto, he had no intent of letting the two targets he was about to attack survive.
Nodding to Shade the moved into the shadows looking into the room, the men were unaware of their demise. "Now." Karc said in a whisper that barely carried but four men were shredded, Shade bolted forward.
As Karc came into the room the man who was already in a chair and restrained let out a involuntarily gasp.
"Y-Y-You, they sent you!?" He asked Karc.
"Yes they did, though you may have insulted my comrade here, ignoring his presence like that." Karc said, slowly pacing before sitting down.
"I'm going to ask you some real simple questions, you answer or we cut bits off you savvy?" Karc asked laying his falchion on the table, the blackened blade was sharpened to a razor edge.
Finally taking off his helmet he stared at the restrained merc and began questioning.

The bandit did not appreciate the skull helmed Merc directing him with his marks. Shade was a professional killer after all, his client might give him specific parameters for the elimination of a target, but he would not take such from his partner. Going full auto was noise and a waste of ones resources, for Shade it was one shot one kill.
He showed this methodology in the way he dispatched the two turncoats. He waited for the clatter of spent casings from Karc’s SCAR-L before entering the room both pistols drawn. With a shot from each of the pistols he sent two bullets into the head of the stupefied Mercs. The act was quick and efficient without any waste. As his partner fished up with the last Mercs Shade took the liberty to restrain the one marked to be interrogated. After the wild mercenary had finished, shade made sure the turncoat where dead by slitting each of their throats. Once done he skulked in a dark corner as Karc approached the captured man. Their hostage panicked at the sight of Karc.
"Y-Y-You, they sent you!?" He asked Karc.
"-Yes they did, though you may have insulted my comrade here, ignoring his presence like that." Karc said, slowly pacing before sitting down.
The other Merc tried to see the bandit in the shadows but it was too little avail as he was hidden deep within the shadows of the room.
“-I don’t mind,” the assassin said cracking his neck, his hand playing with the blade of his knife, “I’m just here for the show.”
"-I'm going to ask you some real simple questions, you answer or we cut bits off you savvy?" Karc asked laying his falchion on the table; the blackened blade was sharpened to a razor edge.
The turncoat struggled against his bounds, it seemed that Karc would make good on his threats. So much more refreshing than that humanitarian he had under him.
“-Oh god please don’t hurt me,” the man cried tear streaming down his face, “I don’t know where Midas is, he just up and left.”
Shade steeped out of the shadows laughing, he slowly crossed the room and got right in the man’s face. A near insane gleam in his eyes, oh how much he missed a go interrogation.
“I-I Know you, God help me you’re the one that,” the man shrilled before the assassin smacked him and clamped his hand over the hostage’s mouth. The information that he was about to spill was of no consequent to the assassin, outside the zone he was a well know hit man who did not tie himself down to any particular organization. He had done jobs for Midas or rather his syndicate but that was all very well documented.
“I don’t think you understand how this works,” the bandit snarled clearly having lost his good humor, “we ask questions, you answer then keep shut up, now do you understand?”
The Merc nodded eye wide in terror, visibly shaking and muttering muffled prayers.
“Good,” grunted Tosya returning to his corner in the darkness, “now continue. I want to see a show.”

Karc was slightly curious about the merc was going to say that made Shade react like that, but was more interested in finding Jurgen.
With a feral smile he locked eyes again with the whimpering merc.
"Midas? What makes you think I care about Midas and his where abouts?" Karc said coldly, "You were following Jurgen, and your going to tell us the fast way through this facility, how many more are here and..." Pausing as it was more to sate his own curiosity, "why there is or was a scientist from X-18 here. You deviate, or I think you're lying I'll do something you'll regret."
Karc warned.
"Now, while your head is nice and clear, how do we get to Jurgen?" Karc asked.
The man shook his head, with that Karc took the falchion and pressed into the man's hand, slowly twisting the blade in the man's hand, he broke almost immediately.
"OKAY! OKAY! I"LL TELL YOU!" He shouted his voice close to hysterics.
Letting the man calm down only a little Karc slapped the flat of the blade on the man's hand reminding him of what they wanted.
"H-He's on the lowest level, there's a stair case that leads all the way down, follow the corridor from here, you'll need clearance passes from at least two guards." The turncoat babbled.
"And where might we get these 'passes'? Karc asked standing and repositioning the blade to cut some more.
"The-thier on the leader of each group, we patrol the corridors keeping mutants away from the living quarters. Each group goes out for 8 hour blocks. We've been gone for 4 hours already."
Running the blade across the man's fingers, slicing into them Karc continued his questioning.
"Which one was the leader here?" Karc asked. Pressing the blade against the cuts he felt the blade press against something solid. "Quickly or you'll lose your fingers."
"That one. In his left breast pocket." The spluttered nodding at one of the corpses now slumped against the ground.
"How many of you are there?" Karc asked, pressing the blade into the web's of the fingers, resisting the urge to slice them.
"Three groups, five in each, another two for tech and a scientist."
"The scientist. Why is he here?" Karc asked hoping to find out the purpose of him.
"Jurgen wouldn't say, they are working on something, he barely ever leaves his workshop now."
"Huh, well looks like you made it out aye okay." Karc said building up the man's hopes.
"You'll let me go!?" The merc asked incredibly.
"Absolutely!" Karc said giving the man a slap on the back and giving a nod to Shade indicating they were done, "I just needed you to be scared or you wouldn't answer?"
"Oh I thought I was going to die."
Putting his helmet back on, Karc indicated that Shade put his fingers in his ears and turned while drawing the BFR
"But as you know if I let you go you could report my behavior, or alert the others." Karc said leveling the gun with the man's face. "And I can't have that..."
And fired, completely pulverising the head.
Wiping the gun and the falchion off Karc holstered them before knelling and taking the pass from the now deceased leader. The card had a magnetic strip on it. Passing it to Shade.
"I'll keep the next one, he said they'd been gone about four hours, if we move quickly we'll make good time and hopefully arrive just as the next team heads out to replace them. Shame he didn't know about the scientist's involvement." Karc muttered as they moved onwards.

“That was mildly entertaining,” the bandit replied gruffly taking the key card from Karc.
The freshly slain man twitched and jumped on the floor, his nerves sending their last signals looking for his brain never to find it. On the table where the remains of a never to be finished poker game, a few notes of money on the table equaled to about 150 ru, that would be collect and slip by the two of them. Shade noted that one of the dead Mercs had been cheating finding an ace up the sleeve of his suit. The ironically of the card was it was the card of death the Ace of Spades.
“Cheaters never prosper,” remarked the bandit grinning, showing the card to the marc, “too bad he could not cheat death.”
Yet another discovery was found in the pockets of the dead, a new map of the complex. Unlike the others it showed the labels of the locations and all of the traps that had been set up. Of course they would still look for any unmarked traps but it would allow them to get around faster. The map along with the information that had been gotten they were able to navigate to the next location much faster than before.
They stood just around the bend that was near the first of the two security doors. They had almost an hour before the next team came up, they would not enter the first door until they had both keys that way they would not alert their target to their presences. Shade had to admit that the mission was going rather easy, for all the hype. Still things could take a turn for the worst and there still where many unanswered questions that hung in the air.
“Tell me Karc what information have you dug up on me,” asked the assassin he had heard that his partner was quite the information collector, “I’m sure you had some hounds sniffing around.”
In truth Shade read up on some of Karc’s more major exploits in the zone, after their last run in. For he was sure that the two of them where going to meet up sooner or later but had no clue that it would be like this. The assassin was sure that karc had used some of his rescores to gather information, and probably knew more about him then he knew about the other. But after all the Mercenary had a much more extensive and in-depth network than the bandits or any other origination in the zone for that matter. Shade gains 75 RU Karc gains 75 RU

“Tell me Karc what information have you dug up on me,” asked the assassin he had heard that his partner was quite the information collector, “I’m sure you had some hounds sniffing around.”
Karc smiled, he had indeed read up on Shade both in the zone and before entering.
"You're right, I like to know things, even things people think remain hidden for example you aren't actually Arkadiy Kovalenko as you might claim, but in fact Tosya Arakcheyev. The scar on your nose was acquired in a knife fight when you were in your late teens. The other man was a supposed friend who felt he deserved more respect than you." Karc said running off what he could remember. "Wanted by Interpol still, nearly as many kills myself in the area assassination or blood money hits. they only know about 25 of your hits, we dug around and discovered another seven hits, similar style of execution but not reported, seems like you were unintentionally doing them a favor by removing several high risk targets that were also your bosses enemies."
Shade had a look of mild amusement, but when Karc showed him a list of assassinations that Shade had done over the years his expression would be described as shocked.
"Not a lot on your family, but interestingly strong ties to the KGB, so it's in the blood, your father's position however is something even the old soviets wouldn't give up." Karc sat watching Shade's expression change back to his more natural state.
"Anything else you'd like to know?" Karc asked. He continued watching the security door it would be at least another 45 minutes before it opened and the next team came out.
"I'd ask what you know about me, but I'm going to guess and say you've heard about the trek that took us from Yantar to Limansk and the Monolith attacking the base. An exciting place to be for sure, especially if you like getting shot at by fanatics."
Having another look at the new map they had, Karc marveled at the size of the facility.
"I wonder what equipment is stored on these two floors, it would take weeks to fully explore this place." He said, thinking of possible salvage jobs for later on once they finished their mission here.

The bandit listen intently to the ranked Mercenary, at first it seemed like the rumors of his being a bloodhound where just stipulation. However when Karc provide him with a list of nearly all of his hits, his amusement changed to shock and a slight twinge of fear. It was rather unnerving how much he knew. Some his hits in Italy had been taken as very tragic gondola drownings; not in line with his normal method of elimination, then again Shade was a marvelous opportunist in the way he performed his assassinations. As he suspected the Merc knew nothing on his family but found it odd that his mother was not mentioned. She was descended from the Bolshevik assassins that put an end to the royal line, then then again his bastard father ranked well above her and taken an active role in his early training.
"Anything else you'd like to know?" Karc asked.
“-Very impressive,” remarked Tosya tracing over the scar that ran a crossed his face, “however you where misinformed about the scar, the fight was over a woman. One I regret ever meeting.” When asked if he wanted to know more the assassin gave a nod, maybe he could figure out who was flapping their gums about him so he chould put an end to them. But first he would trade what information he had gathered on Karc.
"-I'd ask what you know about me, but I'm going to guess and say you've heard about the trek that took us from Yantar to Limansk and the Monolith attacking the base. An exciting place to be for sure, especially if you like getting shot at by fanatics."
“-My turn then?,” the assassin said it would still be a wailed before the next phase of the mission, “ Australian born, at 15 you murdered and robbed a drug dealer. Using the profits you moved to Europe and joined PMC. You worked your way up in the organization and gained a reputation in Asia as a hit man, eventually at the age of 23 you moved to the United States. Where you completed many successful counter terror missions in Afghanistan. Five year later you found yourself in the former USSR working as a freelance assassin.”
“I’ve only learned a few of your exploits in this land,” the assassin admitted as he scratched chin in a thoughtful manner, “Your organization is very good at stopping leaks however Loners are very easily intimated.”
“I’m surprised that we haven’t met sooner honestly,” the bandit said with a grin after a few moments.

Karc shrugged, it was accurate if vague on details, but he nodded when Shade finished.
"Very good, details of my targets aren't easy to find since you need this." He said taping his head a couple of times. "But agreed I suppose if I'd been closer to Western Europe than we would of crossed paths, but the amount of work I could get in the east pretty much kept me there, when I was contacted for the hits in Afghanistan I wasn't sure if I was being arrested or recruited, of course as a 23 year old how would I know?" He mused, it wasn't really a question.
Staying silent for a few seconds to let the moment pass Karc checked his PDA for the time, another 20 minutes to go, this would leave the base at it's weakest with only 5 proper soldiers. The map was not detailed enough to tell exact layouts of the rooms beyond the security doors. But he imagined the first area would be a prep station, with gear, lockers and maybe showers, the next a living quarters, beyond that he didn't know what to expect, and than there was mention of some sort of workshop too.
"I know it's not our actual concern but I want that workshop to remain as untouched as possible. They'll only be armed minimally inside since they are going to be quite complacent." Karc said
A look from Shade seemed to ask if he was sure.
"Of course, if these are the men I know than they'll believe they aren't going to be attacked." He added.
Sounds could be heard behind the door, foot steps, chatter and the clatter of equipment.
"We'll have to play this quiet, and swiftly." Karc said, drawing two of his knives and spinning them quickly between his fingers, getting the best grip.
"I'll follow your lead this time." Karc said., waiting for Shade.
