Mitchell had heard stories of others finding artifacts at the old abandoned mill near the rookie village. It was for this reason he had prepared to spend the night. Upon reaching the site he noticed a small glimmer of light coming from with in the main warehouse. Thinking it might be other stalkers camping by a fire he went inside. Although he found a camp fire, Mitchell was surprised to find it empty. With the temperature dropping he huddled himself near the fire for warmth. After sometime he began to feel as if he wasn't alone. At about three in the morning with a very small amount of the sun light seeping in; he noticed a figure standing in the corner facing the wall. "Hey, you alright over there?" he asked the shadowy figure. When the figure failed to respond Mitchell drew his AK. "Hey, I said alri..." Mitchell was startled by the high tech clothing the figure wore. It was a military stalker. However there was an incredible amount of what appeared to be blood on the wall it was facing.
Mitchell grabs on to the shoulder and pulled to turn the stalker around only to have the life-less corpse fall in front of him. Not only had the chest plate completely ripped off, but much of the poor bastard's insides as well. The face wasn't much better. If only the body had one to identify it with. Mitchell tried to resist throwing up, but it was futile. The stitch was unbearable. The stalker's weapon, however, appeared to be intact. After bringing it closer to the fire Mitchell discovered it to be a badly damaged VSS. "Perhaps the fat man could fix you up." Mitchell mumbled to himself. He then took a piece of cloth out to cover his nose and mouth; picked up the body with his right hand and the rifle with his left and headed off toward Sid's bunker at the rookie village.
Mitchell reached the village at around 4:30am; most of the others were still asleep. Sid was enjoying a nice chicken dinner that had been smuggled in for him. A ungodly stitch began to fill his nose. "What the hell is tha.." He said while turning around only to be startled by the sight of Mitchell with a mutilated body of a military stalker. "Holy sight." he whispered softly, "did you do that?" "No," said Mitchell, "I found him like this at the abandoned mill. How much for can I get for him?" "Well," replied Sid while checking the body, "he's been fucked up real bad.. and his armor is trashed.. The most I can give is 100 Ru unfortunately." Mitchell placed the damaged VSS on the table, "His rifle was damaged as well and I'm hoping you can repair it." Without turning around, Sid replied "Depends if the weapon is as destroy as its owner, if so it's gonna cost a lot more than you have." "I'll pay for it with my AK." retorted Mitchell. Sid got up and took the rifle from the table and placed it on the table.
After sometime looking over the weapon Sid returned to his chair. "Well?" asked Mitchell. "Well," replied Sid, "it has a crack running down the length of the barrel; the magazine box and holder appeared to have exploded. Perhaps all the rounds got to hot, who knows. The butt stock needs to be replaced; it seems to have termite damage. The only thing that isn't damaged in the scope, heh, even the rear iron-sight is missing." Unsatisfied with the results, Mitchell asked "Is it repairable, and if so, how much will it cost me?" "It is doable," said Sid with a sigh, "but it will cost you a fortune. I'd say you best get some money and some artifacts if you with to keep it when I'm done with it. However, if you hurry you should have plenty of time for it'll be awhile tell it's finished. And if you don't like waiting I could give you the scope for free and buy the weapon for spare parts and that'd only be a small amount of cash."
Mitchell pondered for a moment and then decides to pay for repairs. He then placed his AK and 5.45 ammunition on the table. "That'll due for now," said Sid with a somewhat satisfied voice, "but that won't pay for the complete repair cost." When Mitchell asked how much it would be, Sid told him that he'll have an answer when the repairs are complete. And as Mitchell began to leave he was stopped by Sid's voice. "Stalker, this is still yours." the fat man said as he tossed Mitchell the PSO-1 scope. "And don't forget kid, I'll contact you when it's complete. However, if you don't show up with in three days after I send the transmission, I'll sell the shooter to the highest buyer." "Roger that." Mitch replied as he continued out of the bunker. And yet after all he had been through, all he got for his troubles was the loss of his rifle, PSO-1 scope, and a new dept to pay off for a weapon he not that enterested in. He didn't even get the artifact he set out for. The Zone has played a cruel trick of irony on this in-dept ex-spec ops soldier.
