For this battle Shade sat out to watch just how the Doctor and the little viper he had brought with him handled themselves with some of the Zone's more fearsome monsters. Their performance was more than commendable which was more than could be said for the bandit guards or the loner (who still clung to his waist). Three out of elven of his underlings now lay dead, bloodsuckers where notorious for cutting down the ranks of travelers in the zone. They would need to outfit themselves with better equipment before moving on to the red forest. They should also get rid of the pansy loner, but for whatever reason Shade found the Italian amusing. He was scared of mutants and more bizarrely guns.
"Well now, these ARE interesting creatures. Mutation leading to stealth, very interesting. I will need to make a note of this. Shade, do you suppose we may be able to transport one of these corpses to the site of my lab?" Yorick asked as he went to pick up his weapon. “-Why Zaton has much bigger packs of bloodsuckers than here,” said the bandit now turning his attention to the loner at his waist.
“They are dead Giovanni, now can you release me,” said Shade pushing at the loner's arms when he heard Lilith mention something of trade. He knew very well that the Ecologists in Yantar would supply them with better equipment for the right price, but why pay for what you can get for free.
“Well my dear,” said the bandit now free of Giovanni “the dead may hold what you seek, that is if you don't mind prying an assault rifle from the cold dead hands of service man.”
“Boss you really want to pick a fight with the military bastards, just after losing three guys?” one of the bandits asked.
“Yes,” said Shade,” they are easier targets then you might think. They will walk into an ambush that even the rawest of stalkers would see a kilometer away... Of course the Doctor will have to approve.”
He was more than sure that Lilith would jump at such a chance, and the bandits under his command would do just about anything to land their hands on some loot even if that meant losing a few more men.

Lilith grinned as wicked thoughts of bloodshed and slaughter danced through her head. "Maybe I was wrong about you, Shade. That idea sounds.... delightful."
"Yes yes, all and good." Yorick said, "but how are we trapping them, and what type of weaponry will we expect to gain from them?"
Giovanni looked up at Shade. "Why do you want to kill them? Thats-a mean! I say we make friends! With pasta!"
Lilith glared at Giovanni. "We need their weapons, not them. Besides, I've never liked military types. Now stop being a pussy."
"Hmm, now that IS and interesting idea. Shade, do you think these men might be distracted by Giovanni's pasta here?" Yorick pondered ideas for the ambush. "Or would they be more interested in chasing my dear niece here?"
"Using me as bait, Uncle? As much as I am up for that idea, why so eager to put me in danger?" Lilith said to Yorick playfully.
"Well, Lilith, I know you of all people could handle it. Besides, I know how you love to be up close and personal with your... victims..." Yorick turned to Shade. "Well then, I would say it is agreed. Let's get ourselves an upgrade."

“I'd rather have the girl with us during the ambush,” Shade said before glaring over at what was left of his bandits, “I can at least trust her aim unlike that of my own men. As for the equipment that we can expect to loot off of them, some AK’s and military grade ammo and med kits.”
The assassin than turned to Giovanni, although the bandit did not care about the three dead, he had put on some kind of guise or at least made sure there was some kind of retribution.
“Giovanni it is because of you that three of my men lay dead,” said the assassin as he watched the eyes of his underlings light up, thinking they could smell loot on the horizon, “you owe three debts the first to be paid off with the blood of a military patrol.”
Shade paused only a moment they continued.
“A patrol will be coming down this road in approximately an hour, Giovanni all you will have to do is run around them and try not to get shot, they rest of us will take up coved positions along the road, don’t fire until I give the signal. Understood?”
Time pass quickly wail the bandits laid in waiting until finally the patrol slowly made its way up the road. The patrol consisted of seven grunts of low rank, once they saw Giovanni they began to start shooting. The bandit waited until they had their backs to him before getting up and firing a round into the head of one of the soldiers. The others soon followed suit.

Lilith was surprised at Shade's compliment. "Maybe he is not such an assface after all," she thought.
Giovanni, while reluctant to participate, did owe this group a debt. Not only for the fallen bandits, but also for saving him from the pack of dogs. The small Italian man went forth with pasta in hand, hoping that these military men would be more reasonable than Shade had made them out to be. He was wrong. Once he was within earshot, they began firing. Giovanni ran as fast as he could, which was much much faster than any of the military men had seen in the zone. Thinking that only artifacts could allow a man to run so fast, they began pursuit. This was a mistake.
They ran by the foliage and other wreckage that the group had hid behind for the ambush. Shade gave the order as a military man went down, is brains painting the road. Lilith's eyes grew wide with excitement. Yorick took out another two of the patrol with single shots to the head from his rifle.
The patrol was dumbstruck for a few seconds. This was enough time for Lilith to pump herself up. She rushed into the middle of the four remaining men. Perfect, she thought. Two shotguns, two shots a piece. Before the men could react, their heads had become a grey matter smoothie.
Lilith began to both loot and play with the corpses. Looking at her was almost like watching a small girl play with dolls, well, a very sadistic small girl, with very real dolls.
Giovanni began to cry. He hated the fact that he played a part in these men's deaths. He hated violence. He hated death. Still, he knew that he had unknowingly come to a place very different from his home, and owed these people his service, at least temporarily.
Yorick searched for a new weapon, picking each of the patrol men's weapons up and comparing them with his. He also searched for any high quality ammo he could find.
Yorick and Lilith both decided it would be best to take some of the armor these men had. Besides, they all died from shots to the head. The armor was in perfect condition.
"Now Lilith, these men did not deserve to have their brains turned into mush. If we are ever to have my experiments become successful, our victims will need an intact nervous system and mainly intact circulatory system. Please do be more careful next time, dear." Yorick scolded Lilith lightheartedly. "But, do not worry too much this time, we would not have been able to transport this material anyhow."
Lilith barely listened to her Uncle. "Uh huh, of course Uncle Yorick," she said as she enjoyed her fresh killings and loot. She then turned to shade, "How was that, Shade? Good enough for you? Either way, it was quite fun. Do you do this kind of thing often? I could get used to it." Her hands were wrist deep in a man's skull. She enjoyed the feel of mutilated flesh between her fingers. The murder of these poor men gave her a feeling of bliss so great she felt intoxicated.
Giovanni puked at the sight of Lilith "enjoying" her kill.
"Now Lilith, what have I told you about playing with your food? Just take your loot and let's go. Time is of the essence dear. Also, here," Yorick threw her a disinfectant wipe, "wash your hands off. That is unsanitary."
Yorick gains: AK 74/2, PmM and Beril armored suit Lilith gains: AN-94 Abakan and Beril armored suit. CHECK

The assassin watch Lilith as she ran her finger through the mess of blood and brain matter, in a way he was reminded of when he first started out, enjoying even savoring his kills. With years in the business of exchanging human life for money killing became mundane and common place nothing more than what he did for a living. He also learned that it paid to cover your tracks, and that subtlety was king.
To which when she asked of him how she did he replied
“Messy, not only is playing in the blood unhygienic but necrophilia is not well liked even in the Zone. You have a lot to learn yet girl”
With a quick look around he was that what remained of his Bandits where having the same reaction as Giovanni.
“Pick yourselves up,” Shade ordered, “Get your loot and move out.”
The head bandit the turned to the small Italian and put a hand on his shoulder, before asking
“Giovanni non vi ha colpiti, è ok,” (Giovanni did they hit you, are you ok)

"I-I am fine." Giovanni replied, still shaking. "Why did they try to shoot me? I just wanted to be friends and give them pasta. I did not want to kill them." Giovanni began rambling, obviously upset at the fact that he caused someone else to die.
Lilith ripped out one of the dead men's brains and threw it at Shade. "Necrophilia? Please, this is not sexual by any nature. Death is just my sandbox." Lilith smiled and giggled as she said this, her hands still wrist deep in a man's skull.
Yorick picked up his new gear and began to walk. "Come Lilith, not time to waste. There will be plenty more for you to play with as we move on."

“I stand corrected,” said Shade as he watched a brain fly at him, miss than splatter on the ground, “childish and immature, along with being unhygienic and a necrophile.”
Before she could do anything the bandit turned and signaled to move out, “The doctor is right we wasted enough time move."
And with that, the party continued on to Lake Yantar

Karc was sitting on the roof of the lab watching the group of mercs he'd lead from Limansk patrol and do training exercises, the Lab had been under merc protection for the past month and it had been rather quiet with only the odd zombie or wandering snork appearing from the swamp or the factory.
"Alright, that's enough of that." He called as two mercs were starting to brawl with one another, the quiet life often led to outbursts. Standing and sliding down the banked wall of the lab he grabbed one of the mercs while the other was also restrained. "Take a walk guys," Pointing to two other mercs, "patrol the swamps, you lot up to the road and take a look around, once you get there split and half check the factory, the other half check the road leading from the Wild Territories." He ordered the group.
With only 2 mercs remaining to patrol he went back to the roof area to resume his sentry position. Sighing as he climbed the ladder he hoped something would happen, or someone would arrive this constant repetition was enough to drive any one insane.
"-Factory, 3 zombies spotted moving to engage." Came the report from the group at the factory.
"Proceed, watch for mutants." Karc replied.
The sound of distant gunfire echoed down towards the lab.
"-Factory sweep complete. Coming back now"
"Roger that."
"-Swamps, picking up life signs coming from Agroprom, large group." The men from the swamps reported.
"Do not engage, pull back and regroup all units." Karc ordered, followed by the confirmation of the three groups.
About time something interesting happened. Karc thought to himself.

The group picked their way through the tall grass and other vegetation that coved the trail. This path had been unusable for some time due to high levels of radiation and anomaly; but a few months ago a large emission cleared the area, allowing stalkers to once again pass through. Still it paid to be careful in the zone, so that was why every couple of meters Shade or another one of the bandits would throw a bolt. Surprisingly the only mutants the scientists and their escorts came a crossed was a small nest of Tushkano that scatter when stalkers passed.
“Yantar’s mobile lab is protected by the Mercenary faction,” said Shade as they neared the swamp, “Keep your hands way from your guns, Mercs are sometimes jumpy. I’d rather not get in to a firefight over a miscommunication.”
His men, the doctor and the loner he did not need to worry about but Lilith was a different kind of animal, one he was not sure was could be trusted to hold any kind of ceasefire.
“Is that understood girl,” he asked stopping and facing her.

Ibrahim was among the group who were sent out to the swamps. He was trudging the mud and water in his boots looking carefully through the tall grass over the horizon. The other Mercs were talking to each other and were occasionally addressing Ibrahim, but his only response was a swift glance back at them and then concentrating on the sweep again. They were here for a while now and nothing, absolutely nothing of interest happened apart from a few zombie-snork encounters, things were getting tense, Mercs wanted some action and were just about ready to get it down between themselves. Ibrahim was thinking about all of these problems when something caught his attention in the corner of his eye. He looked up and to the left slightly towards the entrance from the Agroprom and saw a large group moving towards the Mobile Lab. He reached for his PDA and messaged Karc: "Swamps, picking up large life signs coming from Agroprom." The reply came near instant: "Do not engage, pull back and regroup all units." "Roger that" messaged Ibrahim and turned around 180 degrees and began to move faster towards the Lab. When him and the other Mercs reached it, everyone sat back and readied themselves for something unusual, something that was going to stir things up a little.

"Yes sir mister Shade sir!" Lilith said with obvious sarcasm, then rolled her eyes and moved on.
Yorick whispered to Shade as Lilith began to move. "Don't worry about Lilith there. She may be quite over the top when it comes to her kills, but she knows how to handle herself when killing would lead to less than desirable consequences."
"No need to worry, I will just offer them some of my home made pizza." Giovanni said cheerfully. "Hey, maybe we can even make friends!" Giovanni continued his cheerful ramblings talking about friendship, food, and how there was no need for violence.

Karc waited until all the groups had returned, several mercs were visibly excited at the mention contact.
"We aren't gonna fire on these newcomers unless they give us a reason, and if your feeling anything like me, you'll be hoping there's some sort of conflict." Karc said to the men. "Now, get back to training, except those who a on guard duty."
Climbing back up his vantage point so as to view the group coming towards the labs he smiled to himself.
Scanning out over the swamps he saw the group picking their way through, heading towards the lab, Bandits, fairly well armed. Must have ambushed a squad of military boys in Agroprom maybe. Oh what's this. He thought as he spotted the unarmed loner amongst the group. Are they kidnapping that guy or something.
"Ibrahim, come up here." Karc called down to one of the more experienced in the group. Turning a facing the man as he climbed up the rungs on the lab and stood at ease.
"That group you spotted looks like a bandit group, there's loners amongst them, might be hostages, might not. They'll be here in a matter of minutes grab a few extra guys and guard that gate, only the leader of the group gets in, the rest wait. I don't want a swarm of bandits hanging around here too long, one last thing, they've got some decent hardware on them. That's all." Karc said with a nod before turning and watching the group as it got closer. Pulling the heavy skull shaped mask down and fastening it, watching the group through the scope of his gun.

"That's all" Karc finished giving the order and then turned away. Ibrahim also turned around silently as always and climbed down to the ground. He walked up to the group that was guarding the gate. "Take up positions and control that group coming up. No one gets in but their leader. If they try forcing their way in do a warning shot and if they don't understand that - shoot to kill." the Mercs nodded and took up positions behind some cover watching every move of the bandit group closely. Ibrahim himself stood in the gate and waited for them to approach. When the bandits were closer than 15 meters he called out to them. "Halt" the bandits stopped slightly alarmed "only the leader gets in. The rest wait" Ibrahim said in a calm tone. One bandit stepped forward. Ibrahim supposed from the beginning that that was the leader, he was the best equipped. When the leader came up to him the Merc said "My commander wants to speak to you, follow me". The bandit replied with a nod and followed Ibrahim up to the top of the labs where Karc was overlooking the whole situation.

“Very well,” said Shade as he nodded and handed his rifle and one pistol to Giovanni, “Hold these until I get back, the safety is on.”
Giving the loner his weapons would help demises any thoughts of the rookie being a prisoner and going seemingly unarmed would help to show that the bandits where not looking for a fight. Although he made sure to hide one of his hand guns and knife should things go bad. Should he be frisked the assassin was more than confidant that he skill at weapon concealment. The bandit did not have his helm on, as it restricted his vision and he preferred to talk face to face.
As he was lead into the inner compound, he noted that the mercs had itchy trigger fingers; they were just looking for some reason to start shooting. Things must have been inactive as of late, they were like the bandits after a week without a good raid. Despite the over egger mercs the bandit maintained a smooth walk, unfazed by the guards.
“Been too quiet for the likes of you,” said the assassin to Ibrahim as he counted the number of mercenaries and noted their equipment, “wishing you where somewhere in the north where the action is, huh.”
He knew if this should escalate into a fight his men and the three that where with them would hardly stand a chance. That was unless Yorick’s little viper had still a few tricks to show, and for what the assassin saw thus far he had no doubt that she did. Soon the bandit found himself before a tall merc with a heavy ballistic mask in the shape of a skull. Clearly this man had experience, seeing far more than what most of the normal zone veterans have seen. A career mercenary with hopefully some kind of clear head.

Watching as the tall bandit was lead to him by Ibrahim, letting the man wait a second before removing his helmet, the man had similar eyes to Karc, equally cold and calculating, the two were rather similar except Karc's heavier, more colourful build. Squinting slightly to readjust to the light difference, he said finally.
"You surprised me, handing your weapons to a loner like that, but I wonder if he knows what your really like?" Karc said, not sure what to make of the compliance of the group. "Regardless, bandit presence makes the scientists nervous, so what your story?"
Glancing over the group by the gate again, he wondered why those loners were so relaxed amongst bandits. Perhaps they were spies for the bandits. He didn't really know.
"And that kid," Pointing to Giovanni, "doesn't he know about the dangers of the zone? Walking through the swamps without a weapon..." Karc said shaking his head in confusion allowing himself to trail off at the end of his comment.
