Wait a second... I know that sound! "Everyone get down!" Jurgen shouted over his comm, throwing himself flat on the ground. A deafening explosion rang out, scattering cement and rebar in all directions. There were several moans of pain and the exo-stalker had more appreciation for his armor than ever before. He turned in the direction the rocket had come from and started shooting.
"Anyone that's still alive, attack!" he yelled into his comm unit. Several other mercs joined, unloading everything they had on the group. His heavy machine gun made short work of the one Dutier he was able to see, punching 7.62mm holes in his woefully inadequate armor. Although his ears were ringing from the blast and the deafening gunfire, he was still able to pick out the sound of bullets ricocheting off the masonry around him.
-----
Although Chaos hadn't originally been interested in shooting mercs like everyone else did, he was forced to start shooting when one of the snipers on the roof opened up on him. He held the scope to his eye and began shooting, carefully picking off the two snipers he was able to see before moving from his position to one closer to the action.

Taking cover behind the concrete shield, Lutiy watched the missile streak towards the construction site, flying straight through the external armature and colliding with the interior support columns. The entire structure shook visibly, as a giant fireball erupted from the second floor. The bandit could feel the vibration where he stood. Frenzied fire erupted, and he could already see a Dutier fall, pierced by machine gun ammo.
He waited out until the smoke cleared, and then took aim at his initial target once again. The mercenary was still there, shooting at the train station. Lutiy tightened his grip on the scoped AK-74 and fired off a burst. A single biting round went into the man's leg, and he fell from his position to the ground below, an audible crunch signifying that the mercenary's back was broken. But before the man even hit the ground, Lutiy's rifle sights were already focused on another merc, who too fell, a hole in his head.
Victor fired just as he saw the missile erupt from Rurik's RPG. The VAL's 9x39mm round sailed in a parabolic arc through the distance, before plopping into a merc's head. The gun's integrated silencer muffled the sound, and no one noticed that the sniper fell in the wake of the explosion on the second floor.
Victor fired again and again, the weighty subsonic rounds punching devastating holes in another merc's lightly armored vest. Then he heard the area around him become ablaze with enemy fire, and dove down not at all too soon right as the mercenaries' MG36 sprayed the area with bullets, riddling the sturdy station walls. Victor lay on the floor for a few seconds before getting back up. Outside, the battle still raged.

Maginot, Adder and the Duty Corporal separated from the main group, heading down the small pipe that lead up behind the construction site, Rurik's gloomy, whispered words lingering in the minds of the two rookies. As they made their way through the tunnel, a thunderous, but muffled detonation came from above, and some dirt fell from cracks above their heads. The fight had obviously started. "We'd better hurry", said the Dutier as muffled gunfire erupted above their heads. The trio moved quickly through the tunnel before finally emerging some distance behind their target, which was now under heavy fire.
"Find cover and fire when I say so", said the Corporal, crouching behind a block of concrete. Adder and Maginot hid behind a large piece of rusty machinery. "NOW", hissed the Dutier before opening fire on the mercs. Maginot raised the Groza and shot at a nearby mercenary, taking him entirely by surprise and killing him with several subsonic rounds to the back. The effect of surprise did not last long though, and the mercs quickly adapted to the new situation. Maginot and Adder ducked down behind the rusting machinery as enemy fire strafed it, bullets pinging loudly off the corroded metal surface. Maginot hastily loaded his VOG-25 into the underbarrel grenade launcher, fumbling nervously as he did so, and, quickly estimating where the mercs were, fired. The grenade went through the air and exploded close by.
But the mercs were obviously not done with, that or the grenade had missed entirely. A small object clattered into the space between the Dutier and the two rookies. "-GRANATA!", shouted the Dutier before the deadly object exploded.
Adder was so shaken by the explosion she dropped her AK and lost her bearings entirely. Everything was blurred and distant, and she could scarcely hear the gunshots and swearing around her...where was Maginot? Where was the Corporal? Maginot was not in the vague. Two pieces of shrapnel had grazed him on the shoulder and face. He saw Adder slumped behind a concrete column nearby, holding her head and looking completely zoned out. "-ADDER!" he shouted above the gunfire, "get yourself together!" Adder looked at him uncomprehendingly for a moment before grasping the situation. She fumbled around for her AK, but realised she had dropped it earlier, so she instead resorted to using her pistol. The mercs were too well armoured and their training was superior to that of the two rookies...did they even stand a chance?
"Bah, fuck that", said Maginot as he reloaded his Groza and fired again, missing a merc wearing an exo.

The second Rurik had fired his RPG all hell broke loose, within what seemed like a few seconds, three of the mercenaries were down, then two other explosions within a few seconds of each other. Pressing the stock of his rifle tight to his shoulder, Sigbrand fired at his selected target, splitting the merc's skull. Chambering another round, he took aim at the last sniper and fired, blowing a sizable chunk out of the man's throat.
Looking over at his brother, Harmund saw that Sigbrand was almost in a trance like state, seemingly unaware of everything around him except his target. Looking back through his scope, Harmund saw another merc on a lower level and fired off a burst of 5.45 rounds at him, tearing open the man's gut. Looking down at the lower level of their tower, Harmund saw their fellow Duty sniper propped up against the wall, bleeding profusely from his arm and chest. Sliding down the ladder, and grabbing the injured man, he pulled him to safety. Pulling a medkit and some bandages from his pack Harmund began to patch up the man where he could. The dutier had already lost a lot of blood, but Harmund did what he could and hoped he could get the man to Victor in time. Leaning around the corner of the tower, Harmund. rejoined the fighting.

Jurgen swore in his native Grecian tongue as his and Nail's men dropped like flies. "Nail now would be a good time to spring your trap!" he yelled, ducking into cover and reloading. He cocked the heavy weapon once more and turned it again on the loners and Dutiers. Two explosions within several seconds of each other told him that grenades were being tossed around. Although his heavy exoskeleton was tough, it wasn't indestructible, giving him cause for concern. Several rounds ricocheted off the ceiling nearby, but he was too engrossed with killing who he could see to care.
-----
Chaos dove behind some unused sections of drainage pipe and leaned out, more watching the battle than actually participating. As he hid, he was able to hear the exo-stalker with the machine gun call for help from someone called Nail. After a few moments of though, he decided that he'd foil their plan utterly.
"Rurik, this is Chaos. Be ready for a merc ambush, someone called Nail is keeping back for now," he warned, ducking back when machine gun fire was aimed at his position. After a few moments it moved away and he was able to lean out and shoot a little bit. Although the 5.45x39mm slugs did little in the way of actual damage to the merc's heavily armored exoskeleton, it served as a distraction.

More bullets ricocheted off the piping Adder was hiding behind. She swore and fitted a new magazine into her pistol before once again opening fire from behind her cover. The pistol was poorly suited for the job, and Adder wished she could get her hands on her AK-74 again, but the bullets slamming every now and then into the pipes prevented her from doing so lest she got shot full of holes like a bird on a duck hunt.
On the other hand, Maginot's Groza was quickly running out of ammo, as the gun had only come with one other mag. Maginot decided not to waste the other bullets of this gun he did not know how to use properly, and reverted to the simpler AK, a gun he knew how to use fairly well from his time in the Cordon. This mission is utter suicide. We've been asked to handle well trained men who know how to fight, we're aren't good enough! And where is the Corporal? Despite these defeatist thoughts, Maginot could not fall back, as it would expose him to enemy fire, and so he was forced to continue fighting and hoping the Dutiers would soon finish the mercs off.
Suddenly, he saw the Duty corporal sneaking up along the building's wall, heading towards the merc who was firing at them. Maginot was glad to see the corporal had survived the grenade attack and was doing something to break them out of the quagmire into which they had fallen. The Dutier edged up to the merc and swiftly grabbed him by the neck as he leaned out of cover to shoot at the loners. The corporal swiftly cut the merc's throat, taking some pressure off Adder and Maginot.
Maginot ran out from cover to join the Dutier, who seemed intent on taking the fight into close quarters, Adder quickly following.

As the Dutier led the two loners into the construction site, Victor saw a single man stealthily emerge from behind the external wall, ghost-tailing the strike squad. He was clad in an armored suit the likes of which Victor had never seen before, much akin to the SKAT suits of the elite military stalkers, but gray, with blue accents.
Before Victor could even aim for the mercenary, the two loners had already turned the corner, leaving the Duty corporal alone momentarily. Then the merc struck. Just as Victor's own sights alligned with the man's head, he lunged forward, pulling the Dutier to the ground, one arm around his neck. The mercenary held the man in a dead grip, and gave a powerful twist, breaking the corporal's neck. As his victim's body fell to the ground, he pulled his sidearm, preparing to unload several rounds into the two loners around the corner. He never made it up, as Victor's 9x39mm round made short work of his skull. Immediately, several of the remaining mercs began to shout into their intercoms, devoid of their former squad leader.

Rurik heard the message from Chaos, he stopped firing the PKM, loading the RPG he looked back at the building, looking for another support column, he crouched, aimed and fired the second rocket, hitting the column, parts of the roof began to crack and crumble, the building was visibly weakened but was still intact.
Rurik cursed he had hoped the roof would collapse with 2 rockets, loading the third and final rocket he checked the area again, If I hit the ceiling it will collapse on most of them, Rurik thought. The firing had thinned out as the number of dead climbed. Standing up he sighted the roof and fired, this time the desired effect took place, large chunks of concrete began falling around the mercs...

"Jurgen! Nail's down!" someone shouted across the comm. The exo-stalker said nothing in return as he continued shooting. Other voices came across the comm asking for orders and arguing over the chain of command. "I'm in charge," Jurgen finally shouted, ducking into cover and reloading. "Spring the-!"
His transmission was cut off by a pair of explosions that caused the roof to give way. He was buried under several tons of rubble. The merc could hear the rest of the building collapsing around himself and the cut-off shouts of the rest of the mercs in the area.
-----
Chaos jumped down when Rurik started shooting rockets, ducking into a an alcove . The loner swore when the he heard the building finally collapse, shaking the ground and scattering dust all over. He climbed up some of the nearby debris and looked over at the wreckage and dust.
"Nice shot, Rurik! That got 'em!" he called into his comm, scrambling up the debris and walking over to the fallen building. Someone was calling for help. Although Chaos found it had to believe anyone could survive it, he'd heard of people in earthquake zones surviving for over a week in the wreckage of their homes.

"Oh fuck...I'm getting out of this shitstorm!"
As the bullets whizzed around him, he tried to run away as fast as he could. The medic in the helicopter got the bullet out, but what was next? Was he going to get killed by one of these maniacs? As he was thinking, a bullet whizzed through the bushes he was in.
"SHIT! Fuck this, I'm going back to Yantar!"
He crawled through a hole in the wall, only to find himself face-to-face with a rather disturbed-looking boar who had just woken up.
"SHIT!"
He pulled out his USP and emptied the entire magazine in the beast's head. To his relief, it went limp and fell.
"Oh boy, this is going to be nasty...Might as well take his hoof, scientists pay some money for it, or so I'm told."
He took out his knife...It was a bit blunt, but it'd do it's job. After a lengthy cutting, he managed to get it's hoof off and stuffed it in his pocket. Looking at his PDA, he saw the scan of the area. No way to get to Yantar, except for the pass. He saw a clear path which, to his relief, avoided the construction site.
" Time to go."
____________________________________________________________________________
Dimitri and his men managed to reach the Yantar tunnel."Damn.... Dimitri knew that there were anomalies inside, but his teammates' suits were half-destroyed...How was he going to pull through?
"Hold on! Wait!"
They turned, only to see Burner limping towards them.
"HOLD ON! Now you'll see how we stalkers pull through!"
He took a stone from the ground and chucked it into the tunnel. Immediately, the whole tunnel was ablaze. "Fire! Wonderful fire!". The former soldiers looked in astonishment as he walked in and tried to follow him, walking in his footsteps.
"Okay...Now, let's see...Burners are triggered by movement...Let's see."
He grabbed another stone and chucked it in front of him. Nothing happened.
"Clear! Follow me! Still about 20 meters! Oh GOD!"
There was a singed corpse in front of him, clutching what appeared to be a bright red ball of some sort. Despite what his instincts told him, he reached for the sphere. A rush of hot air hit his face and a jet of flame followed
"Ah, fire, is it not wonderful? Too bad I have to die...I'm already feeling...Wait a minute!"
...He was...Fine?
He opened his eyes and what appeared to be char-coal fell from his face...What the hell was going on? He turned to the men, only to see them staring at him with wide eyes.
"What the hell happened? I thought you were going somewhere! Follow me!"
The men whispered for themselves, following the merc who was happily holding a Fireball, walking through jets of flame. They found their way through the fiery pillars and finally got out of the burning nightmare. The merc walked back in, returning a minute later, holding four similar red spheres.
"Yes, well, a man has to make a living. Go on, gasp! To Yantar!"

Rurik waited until it had gone silent before standing up, picking up PKM he motioned for his Sergent to follow, speaking into his PDA, "Harmund, Sigbrand check our own for injured, Victor see what you can for them, Sergent with me we need to confirm the mercs a wiped out." Rurik looked at the rubble, the building hadn't completely collapsed, there was no way to the top floor anymore. I doubt anyone survived but I don't need anyone crawling out and ambushing us later. he thought.
Making his way to the rubble, passing the Dutier who had been riddled with bullets from a machine gun, Rurik was sure he could hear a faint call for help from the rubble. He looked at the Sergent who was creeping forward, "Sir, I think someones still alive under there somewhere." he called to Rurik, I bet I know who Rurik thought. "Anyone not tending to the wounded come here. There's someone alive under the rubble." Rurik began lifting chunks of concrete from where he thought the voice had came from.
The Sergent had looked around the site and had returned, "Sir, the corporal is dead, the two loners that were with him a nowhere to be seen either." Rurik stopped working and stood up. Another man down. "Take over here keep clearing this until we find the survivor, I'll check the area maybe they ran and hid after the collapse." Rurik took up his PKM and checked the area, the loners weren't anywhere to be seen.

"Hmrph", grumbled Adder as she got up from behind the pipe she was was crouching behind. Her ears were still wringing from the grenade and had been shaken up again by the RPG's explosion and subsequent collapse of the unfinished building. When the building collapse, a thick wave of white concrete dust had exploded outwards, coating her and the scrubby grass on the ground a chalky white. She blinked repeatedly and coughed slightly, now where was that damn Frenchman?
"Maginot?", she called out, looking for the AK she had lost earlier. "-I'm here", said Maginot as he emerged from behind the crane, he too covered in concrete dust. Adder burst out laughing. "You can laugh", said Maginot with a smile, "but you look the same as I do." He coughed a little as some concrete dust still lingered in the air, not yet blown away by the soft breeze that was now blowing across the Wild Territory. Adder found her AK-74 lying on the ground nearby, and picked it up, dusting it off a little. Maginot turned towards the pile of rubble the unfinished building had become as he heard talking and movement. The Dutiers were looking over the rubble.
The two loners went over to where the now familiar figure of Rurik was standing and made the fact they were alive and well known to the Dutier. After that, they went to assist the others in searching the rubble for the survivor whose cries for help they could hear.

Rurik turned as to stalkers covered in white dust spoke, chuckling he patted them on the back as they went past, he moved back to where they were digging, 3 mercs had been found, very much dead. Laid to one side carefully, the voice calling for help was clearer now. Rurik heaved a massive chunk up with the help of two other people, revealing and arm encased in an exo-skeleton suit, still twitching.
Rurik gave an added heave moving the slab away from the man, grasping the arm he pulled the man out of the rubble, the battered exo was far from working, his gun bent from the debris. Rurik dragged the man away from the rubble. "Ok merc, were going to have a little chat or I'll have Lutiy here torture you." he motioned towards the Bandit who was standing nearby watching. "Why is Seth in Yantar?" he asked. "Answer that and I'll have our medic check you over."

The scraping of cement on cement was a welcome sound for Jurgen. He continued to call out right up until he was able to see the smiling face (and the torch) of a loner. However, it was quickly replaced by the air-mask of the most well-known Duty exo-stalker, Rurik. He was hauled from the rubble and questioned.
Coughing, he pulled his own mask and helmet off. "Far... far as I know... Seth was in Yantar... finding a way... around... around the Dead City..." he heaved, coughing some as the wind blew the cloud of dust at them. "He shot... at us about 35 hours ago... we shot... shot back... and he and his trio... they ran off... dunno if we actually... injured them..." he explained, telling the truth. The exo-stalker wasn't particularly keen on letting someone torture him and he didn't know all that much anyway.
Jurgen took inventory of himself. His exoskeleton and heavy machine gun were both ruined beyond repair. He'd get his armor replaced upon returning to the base, and he had a stash nearby that had a reinforced Merc suit in it he could wear until he got back. He looked around at the assembled stalkers, Dutiers, and loners. "W... well... Rurik... that's all I know... you let me live... and... and I might say more though..." he offered. In The Zone a life was often worth more than a handful of rubles and Jurgen knew it well, placing his own life on the table had gotten him into the Merc faction and it would, hopefully, get him in the debt of Duty.
"Hey kid..." he said, turning to a young-looking loner with an AN-94 and a military vest. "Do me a favor... there's a merc suit... in the cabin of an old... an old crane..." he paused and coughed, "it's... by the tracks... get it for me... I'll give you something in... return for it..."
-----
Chaos listened to the merc's tale. Although he'd been shooting at them just a few minutes ago, he didn't seem all that threatening without a rifle and a ruined exo. The loner was honestly surprised at just how tough the suit actually was. He'd seen Rurik demonstrate just how bulletproof it was earlier during the attack by Seth and his companions and the Merc laying on the ground had, unwillingly, demonstrated just how helpful it was in terms of a building collapsing on him.
He listened to the Merc's answer to Rurik's question. He obviously didn't have any reason to help this Seth character and seemed to only care about not being tortured by Lutiy. Chaos blinked when he was asked by the Merc to go fetch a merc suit for him to wear. Logically speaking, he could see the reason for the man's request, going through The Zone with no armor was a death sentence, even in a well-armed group.
Mentally, he shrugged before running off toward the tracks. He remembered seeing the boxy outline of a crane during their brief stay at the downed chopper. After a little exploring, some experimentation with Electros, and a trip up a ladder, he found the suit he'd been asked so nicely to collect. He also found an LR-300 rifle as a box of ammunition for it. The armor didn't look any more bulletproof than his vest, but there was something about it that made it feel more resistant to attack in some way. He didn't have a need for the rifle, so he figured the Merc would appreciate it.
Regardless, he slid down the ladder and carried the suit back, being mindful of his surroundings. Chaos, just like any other resident of The Zone, wasn't too interested in meeting the local population of Snorks, Bloodsuckers, or even rabid mutts. He arrived back at the scene to find Victor tending to the wounded Merc, who seemed to be in a better condition now that he wasn't being crushed by a damaged exoskeleton.
"Good job, kiddo," the Merc said with a smile. He pulled an artifact from his ruined exo and handed it to the loner in trade for the suit. It was a reddish-blue hued crystal that felt warm to the touch and was shiny and metallic. It emitted a soft red glow in the absence of torch light and reacted strangely to his Electro artifacts. "That won't protect you completely from radiation, but it'll help," he explained. Chaos nodded and pulled one of the Sparklers from his belt, attaching the Crystal in its place.
"Tell you what, kiddo, I'll make another deal with you, since I need a Sparkler, I'll give you 750ru for that one, what do you say?" the Merc asked. Chaos considered for a moment, he was just going to sell it anyway, so why not? "I guess so... does it seem fair to you, Rurik?" he asked the Dutier, receiving a nod from him. "If he thinks it's okay then it's okay," the loner said. He figured the Merc wouldn't try anything funny with Rurik around, so he handed off the artifact for the money.
Chaos seated himself, still feeling very awake due to the very large number of Electro artifacts on his belt. After a moment, he looked at the rather tall Merc. "What's your name anyway?" he asked. The Merc first looked at Rurik, then at Chaos, then back to Rurik. "I'm Jurgen," he responded, "and you, kiddo?" "Chaos," the loner answered.
-----
After more silence, and a dying moan from another Merc, Jurgen sighed. He'd cheated death once more, granted he hadn't been attacked by 15 well-armed Mercs like he had during his first trip to The Zone, but Rurik was a bit of a one-man army. He looked over the assembled group of loners, Dutiers, and the man that had been referred to as Lutiy. The only one out of the group he even had a remote trust for was Chaos, and that was just because he'd brought him his Merc suit from his personal stash.
He spotted the rifle and blinked, it then struck him that he'd left the LR-300 in his stash too and forgotten about it. With a slight chuckle he tapped Chaos on his shoulder. "Hey kiddo, you gonna use that rifle?" he asked. The loner shook his head. "How about giving it to me then?" The loner considered for a moment before handing him the rifle and the box of ammunition. It wasn't anywhere near as good as his heavy machine gun had been, but it could be replaced later. He loaded and cocked it, flipping the safety on then turning to the loner in the SEVA suit. "You almost done?" he asked.

Rurik listen to his answer, it wasn't complete but he wasn't lying either. He nodded, Chaos ran off into the night to retrieve the other suit for Jurgen. Why is Seth seeking a path into the Dead City? He thought. Nodding he helped the tall man to his feet. "Why did Seth shoot at you, Isn't the Dead City the Merc HQ? That's a suicidal move." Chaos came running back.
After some more discussion Chaos asked Rurik about an artifact price, nodding "Duty, as a rule don't use artifacts, our newer members often do, the Crystal is a rare item so it's a fair trade. We normally turn them over to the scientist in Yantar, and that profit helps with things around the base." Victor was patching up scratches on Jurgen. "Anything else you can tell me? Or anyone else in Yantar that we should look out for?" Rurik asked he was anxious to move but if the merc had info he wanted to know first.
The Sergent came back from checking the area, "Sir, no mercenary survivors, also found something that makes little sense. We found a boar with several shots to the head and a missing hoof. There was charcoal nearby, like that guy who was walking towards the bar, he's doubled back." Rurik thought nodded again, turning to look at Jurgen, "Know anything about that guy? The guy who looks like he got stuck in an oven?"
