((How the HELL did Chaos intercept a secure frequency with his PDA?))
Victor sprinted into the clearing just after Chaos. In the half hour or so minutes they had been gone for, the clearing had become a warzone. Three Duty bodies lay on the ground, and all four of the other stalkers were injured in some way, including the sergeant, who was bleeding badly.
Victor hurried over to the man, pulling out his medkit. "Goddammit! I'll need more than a few bandages to patch this up!" he muttered "anyone have a coagulant artifact on them?" he queried. The man on the ground was losing blood much too quickly.
Lutiy slowly pulled himself out of the helicopter. The frame of the Hind was literally riddled with bullet holes. He could see a man emerging from the bunker. Like Lutiy, he wore a trenchcoat, but his face was completely gray. Funny stuff happens to people here in the Zone, Lutiy thought. He could see Rurik's men raising their guns, aiming for the intruder. The Duty leader himself approached the strange interloper, questioning him.
Lutiy tossed the Slug artifact to Victor, who was desperately trying to quell the bleeding of a Dutier still alive, and continued walking towards the apparent shooter. Not stopping by the Dutiers' side, he approached the bunker. It was completely empty, no machine gun of any sort to explain the rapid fire had been left behind. Whoever was shooting had vacated the place, taking everyone and everything in the bunker with them. He looked at the man who had emerged. The trench coated stalker carried two pistols. He simply couldn't have been the shooter. The details quickly clicked together in Lutiy's mind. This man... he was only a distraction.
"Lieutenant!" Lutiy called "The real gun has left. They can't be too far off though" he added. "We can catch up to them if we have time. Let's not waste time on this guy right now! We'll question them along with the others once we get to Yantar."
The firefight was over, all shooting had subsided. To Seth's immense surprise, Burner emerged from the bunker, the two real shots dissappearing out the back door. For a moment, he was surprised, picking sides, are we? he thought, loading his weapons. He slid down the crane's ladder, having seen all he needed to see. It was time to get back to the lab.
He pulled out his PDA, engaging a secure channel. "Nail!" he called "Are you in the area?" he called. He didn't particularly like the local mercenary leader. The mousy, wiry man was a good shot, but quite apt at being an annoyance to neutral stalkers in the area. It wouldn't hurt to have him meet his end in a firefight, Seth thought, as long as he slowed down the Duty force coming in from the East. "Seth! Long time no see! What brings you to our little hellhole this time?" A voice that sounded like nails on a chalkboard answered.
"There's a bunch of guys coming in from the Duty base," Seth explained "About ten or so people. I figure your boys would love to give them a warm greeting." A slight pause on the other end. "Will do." the raspy voice finally answered "I've got half a dozen snipers at the construction site. Those Dutiers will be full of so many holes, they won't know what hit them!"
"Good call, mercenary." Seth replied, flicking off the communications. What remained was a game of chance, he didn't particularly relish the possibility of getting Burner killed, but neither did he trust the merc now, after seeing him pull two army grunts out of danger. He quickly reached the ground and began to walk back towards Yantar. It was time to get the old team together, and get Vasily in the know.

"Who're you, the police? I ain't tellin' you what I'm doing 'ere! I just saw this massacre and I have to tell you, get tha hell away. I've seen at least five or six military stalkers converging o'er here, an' I'm suggesting you clear out before they git 'ere. Oh and, nice work with the helicopter, you couldn't stab an ox in the ass, as they say in Serbia."
Looking at the confused faces of the dutiers, he continued
"Check that 'eli yerself. Nothin' in it! They got away with who knows what. Tell you what, since you seem like an 'onest man, I'll let you in on a li'l secret. They smell like swamp water. Now, good day to you, gentlemen."
With that, he bowed a little, then proceeded onwards, leaving the dutiers more confused then ever.
Once he was out of sight, he pulled out his PDA.Seth! His signal was still fresh, as well as some...Mercenaries! Oh hell...He turned on his PDA and tried to get through to Seth...Bingo!
"Seth, can you read me! Seth! Hold your fire! The three men in SKATs are no longer associated with the army, repeat, they are no longer associated with the army! The captain's got some explaining to do, do not touch them! I'm not suggesting you leave them out of your sight though...Keep your gun ready at all times, from what I've heard, the Army told them to 'fuck off', but that might be a trick! If they get to Yantar without any...Mishaps, keep them there unscathed!"
______________________________________________________
Dimitri was waiting ... He saw the mercenary come out in the clearing, and talking to the Duty men. He didn't like the look of the man in a trench coat...Something was amiss.
"Captain! Captain! What is this? A stalker helping us?"
With a grim face, the captain explained the situation. The army refused to help them, and they were literally on their own now. He tore off his badge and threw it in the bushes..."Fuck them".
Such was the devotion of his men that they followed his example , throwing off everything which associated them with the army. They were alone now.

Rurik smiled to himself, he was tempted to stop the man, but decided to show Kirill what he had leaned from Chaos just moments. Walking over to the bunker, he showed the PDA message to Kirill, "Seth was in the area within the last 2 hours. I know those other names as well."
"That chap said there was 5 or 6 soldiers lurking about, and mentioned swamp water. But I think he's full of it, whoever fired is running back towards Yantar, maybe to meet someone, or gather reinforcements, he's also low on ammo otherwise he would of fired again." Rurik paused to think, "I think that guy was in the helicopter we brought down, he should be grateful it wasn't entirely destroyed." The mission seemed hopeless now, even if his Sergent was saved, he didn't want to lead the remaining stalkers into another slaughter. He sighed and looked around noticing one of the bushes had been trampled slightly, "I think the gun men went through here." he said.

((Never seen ANYONE in The Zone use coded messages, Dim.))
Jurgen and his team had picked their way through Yantar all the way to meet up with Nail. The exo-stalker hated the man, feeling he was a traitor for not staying at the main fortress in the Dead City, but orders were orders, so he had no choice. With a grunt of annoyance, they approached the underpass that had become known as "the burner tunnel."
"Watch it guys, burner anomalies coming up. Watch for artifacts and don't get burned," he said, kneeling and picking up a stray droplets. Up ahead, he watched several of his men gather up fireballs and droplets as well. As he neared the tunnel, he spotted the unmistakable glow of a crystal near one of the columns. One of his men lunged for it only to be incinerated instantly by the powerful jet of flame. Idiot...
Mindful of the anomaly, Jurgen carefully reached around and grabbed the artifact. Although he already had one, he could sell it for a high price. He pulled out his PDA and contacted the merc leader he was supposed to meet. "Nail, you there? We're down one man, burner anomaly got him. We'll be arriving on schedule," he said, signaling his men to move through the tunnel.

Lutiy examined the message. Seth, Sokol, and Thor: the famed Freedom Alpha Wolves... This was going to get interesting, no doubt. In fact, he was quite eager to see all three of them, dead.
"We'll be able to intercept all of them in Yantar if we get there fast enough." he murmured "We've got to catch up with them all before they run off to Limansk or even further north, where they can get protection from the mercenaries." He looked around. "Let's take what we can from here, and move on."
Using the slime from the Slug, Victor finished staunching the Duty sergeant's bleeding. The wounds would not heal for a while longer, but the man would live. "There," he said "won't be as good as new for a while, but at least you'll still be able to kick some military ass!" He handed the artifact back to Kirill "Thanks," he said "whoever you are, this guy wouldn't have made it without your help."
He stood up as the remnants of the group slowly began getting ready to move out. He quickly checked the Duty sniper that the army sergeant had shot. The man's armor was ruined, but his weapon, a scoped AS-VAL, was in impeccable condition. He quickly swapped the gun in for his own AK-74, not wishing to leave the dead man with nothing in return. "You won't be needing this one anymore" he whispered, slinging the new rifle onto his shoulder. [CHECK]
After finishing reading the message sent by Burner, Seth had already approached the burner anomaly tunnel when he saw several figures emerge. Well I'll be damned, he thought, recognizing the tall man in the gray and blue exoskeleton.
"Well, well, well!" he exclaimed, approaching Jurgen and his mercenary cohorts "who would have thought that Nail would call you folks in to help out!? After all, it's much easier to shoot down friendlies from a tower at the Dead City than lug that exo all the way to here to face some real enemies, eh Jurgen? By the way," he added with a wry smile "did you folks fix that winch yet?"

The group had been hit hard. Several Dutiers lay dead on the ground around the downed helicopter, and the aircraft was riddled with bullet holes. Maginot and Adder, who had stayed next to the underpass entrance, had escaped the shoot-out.
They had rushed over to the scene, and had seen the devastation and losses their small group had suffered. Seeing all the cold, dead bodies of the Dutiers on the cracked concrete ground had planted doubt as to wether the whole venture was worth it after all in Adder and Maginot's minds.
"I think the gun men went through here", said Rurik after a while, indicating a direction. The two rookie stalkers looked at each other, their eyes full of doubt...somehow, they had a feeling they were stepping into something way beyond them. Who were they going after anyway?
"-This isn't our fight", said Maginot as Rurik and the others got ready to move, "we're getting dragged into something so sticky we might not be able to get ourselves out." "-We'll just stay a little longer...", answered Adder, "and if it gets worse we'll abandon ship and head off to Yantar ourselves."

The group had finally reassembled. "If any of you do not wish to continue I'd advise you turn back, anyone who wishes to return to the bar should go now. Otherwise you face whatever is ahead without complaint." Rurik said. He continued "There will probably be mercs ahead, they will have the advantage of height, and numbers. Proceed with caution, and stay low." Rurik warned. Before moving ahead.
The area was silent as he crept forward, there was slight movement within the construction site ahead taking out his binoculars, surveyed the area, several mercs were crouching along the top of of the construction sire there were more on the ground but he couldn't see them from his hiding place. He waited for Kirill and the others to catchup "Kirill there's a pack mercs ahead, but I'm thinking we ambush them. I'll get their attention with some heavy firepower while you and the others sneak around them, and mow them down from behind, make sure they haven't got more men." Rurik instructed "Wait for me to fire."

Lutiy surveyed the area through his binoculars. He could see two men at ground level, one mercenary on the construction site's second floor, and two more snipers on the roof.
"Something's not right here," he muttered "I only see six, but my PDA is picking up sixteen signals in our vicinity. I'm guessing that one is that guy that intercepted us in the clearing, but that still leaves nine more stalkers around here somewhere..." he looked around cautiously, but was unable to find any more signs of life other than the six stalkers at the incomplete structure. "I have a feeling we'll be walking straight into a death pit if we try to get around." His PDA gave a slight beep as one of the signals disappeared. Someone had left the area.
Well hell, Victor thought, if it was to be dying anywhere, it would be here. Not to mention he could drag down a few army souls and criminals along with him. He took out his VAL, ready to attack from long range. Looking through the scope, he noticed that the mercenaries were considerably better armed than those they had faced before. Not to mention we're out of snipers. The entire affair was positively not good.
"We've still got some scoped shooters," he said "but with only rookies, I'm not sure how many of the mercs we'll be able to take down before they start shooting back."
((wait for Chaos to respond with Jurgen before the attack, plox))

Jurgen couldn't help but laugh at the freedomer. "You caused quite a ruckus with that little trick, Seth. We were able to get it fixed, but it won't be the same until Screw takes a look at it," he explained, hefting his heavy machine gun and checked his PDA. "So what's the situation here anyway? Nail doesn't call down the elites for nothing," he added with a smirk.
"Were your boys unable to take out the soldiers that Duty keeps sending to keep watch over the eggheads in Yantar?" he asked, motioning to his squad to move ahead while he attended to business. The squad of mercs moved off, leaving him alone with Seth. He smiled and handed the leader of Freedom a flash drive. "It's from the boss, seems he had something he wanted to share with you. Take care of it, Nail needs all the help he can get right now," he explained, walking past the other man. "Remember Seth, you still owe us for the bridge. Call before you arrive, you might pay for it otherwise."
With that, Jurgen headed up to the construction site, taking up a position on the second floor near the crane, with his back to the wall and the crane on his right. "Remember boys, keep your eyes up and watch your six," he said over the comm. He cocked his MG36 and rested the attached bi-pod on the low wall.
-----
Chaos gratefully took his PDA back and locked it before shoving it back in his pocket. He looked through the various corpses of the poor duty soldiers. There wasn't anything in the way of armor, but he grabbed a scoped AN-94 Abakan, a far better weapon than his AK-74/2. He pulled the mag from his old AK and discarded it. He did feel a little bad considering he'd just bought it, but figured he'd be better off with the AN-94.
He listened to the conversation between the other stalkers and turned to Rurik and Lutiy. "Umm... out of curiosity... do the Mercs leave loners like Victor and I alone... or are they as bad as the bandits?" he asked, a worried look on his face.

Lutiy's eyes widened slightly as four more stalkers appeared at the construction site, taking position, making for a total of ten. A huge, exoskeleton-clad mercenary actually hefted an MG36, easily the most powerful weapon Lutiy had seen in a long time. The rest, clad in regular vests, carried various other NATO armaments.
"Normally no, most don't attack straight away" the bandit answered Chaos' query "but judging by how more are pouring into that construction plant, I'd say they were sent specifically to stop us. Whatever it is at Yantar, it's sure hella valuable." he mused.
Lutiy turned to Rurik "Still sure we should go around them? I'd say they've got quite a lockdown on that area." He flicked his gun's safety off and surveyed the group. Aside from the four loners, himself, and Rurik, five Dutiers, including Harmund and Sigbrand were still alive. It was eleven versus ten, an even count, but the enemy's weaponry was certainly equivalent, if not surpassing that of their own, not to mention that they were at higher ground.

"We won't go around. I'll let you know what I'm thinking in a minute."
Rurik chuckled they might be aware of his group but they probably didn't know what was coming, he looked at his PDA they weren't going to sneak around which left on other option, the looked up at the group as a plan formed in his head, he and the remaining Duty Sergent both had PKM's, and most of the stalkers had scooped rifles of some sort. He also had the RPG and groza he'd picked up.
"All of you find cover so that you can see the site, spread out too. As soon as I fire the first RPG, open fire on a target, deal with the snipers first, after that we will continue to firing with the machine guns to keep them pinned down, during this time I'll fire the RPG again as close to them as I can. Depending on how many a still alive after that we'll either wait and snipe them, or storm them."
He looked through his binoculars he noted the massive exo clad merc, while he was a tall man his armor wasn't as heavily modified as his own. Maybe I should aim at him first? No he might move, I'll aim for the roof above them hopefully it will cave in on them. "Get into position."

Lutiy settled into position behind a concrete half-wall at the end of the railway platform. The rest of the marksmen quickly dispersed across the area, some taking cover behind the station's windows. He watched as Rurik and the Duty sergeant dug in, setting up their heavy weaponry and motioning for Harmund, Sigbrand, and another sniper to take good cover. The French loner and the woman were the only ones left, along with a single remaining Duty soldier.
"Lieutenant!" he hissed to Rurik, "Give one of those two loners that Groza and a VOG-25 or two and send them in with the corporal. They'll crawl down into the collapsed tunnel from here and come out right next to the construction site. Once they're out, they should be able to unload on the mercs from there and take them by surprise." he explained the tactic. Their guns would be useless from this range anyway, and as lightly armed loner rookies, they were expendable, he laughed inside. The bandit sidled back into position, carefully selecting his first target.
His geiger counter ticking only slightly, Victor entered the room. The single window faced directly towards the construction site and offered decent protection in case the merc's massive machine gun on the second floor decided to pepper the area.
He rested his elbow on the window frame, steadying his new gun. Time to break you in, he thought, looking at the VAL. Hopefully, he would be able to cap and loot more than one mercenary in this particular assault. Adjusting his aim via the chevrons on the PSO-1 scope pattern, he patiently waited for the first shot to ring.

Looking for a good vantage point, Sigbrand spotted an old watch tower. "Follow me," he whispered to his brother and the remaining Duty sniper. Sneaking over to the tower, the three men began to climb up the ladder. "You stay on this level," Harmund whispered to the other Dutier, "Sigbrand and I will take the top level." Climbing up to the top platform, the two brothers went prone and surveyed the layout of the construction area ahead of them. There were several snipers on the top floor, and various other mercenaries on the lower levels. Pulling out his PDA Harmund sent out a message saying, "Leave the snipers to us.". Placing the reticule of his scope on the head of one of the mercs, Sigbrand waited for the order to open fire.

Chaos watched the others disperse and decided it would be wise to seek some cover himself. He took up position near an abandoned railway car. It offered a very good field of visibility and adequate cover from all but the most powerful of weapons. Suffice to say, the loner wasn't exactly interested in fighting. For all he knew, he had a good stance with the Mercenaries and it was possible that he'd be shot to pieces by them.
Still, if his friends needed help, he was going to give it to them, even if it meant killing a few people. Chaos waited silently for the order to attack, holding his rifle to his shoulder, he switched it to single-fire mode to help control the recoil.
-----
Half-watching his PDA, Jurgen waited in silence for the fight to begin. He'd seen at least two Duty soldiers when everyone began scattering and taking positions. He wasn't too worried yet, he hadn't seen the man that had become known as "the walking turret," but there was always a chance he was out of his field of vision.
Still, he had been ordered to help Nail keep Duty out of Yantar at all costs. His and Nail's men were good shots, if they were careful, they'd be able to kill off Duty's boys without any serious collateral damage. He chuckled under his mask and activated his comm.
"Hey, snipers, you see anything to be worried about?" "Yeah, all the stalkers in the area just took up positions, we're in for a hard fight." Jurgen swore under his breath. "Watch for Duty's boys, especially the extra large one, I'd like to shoot him myself..." "Roger that."

Rurik settled the bipod securely on the ground, put the RPG down next to him, along with 2 extra rockets. He didn't like Kirill's plan to much, but there was little he could do to help them at this moment, hopefully his plans would work and the need to storm the mercs would only be to mop up any wounded survivors. "Here. Take these. Keep your heads down, do what ever the corporal tells you. Hopefully you won't need fire to much." Looking at the corporal, "Keep them alive." He watched them move away. Everyone seemed to be in position, giving the area a quick look over, picking his target he'd aim at the central columns within the half built building. Taking up the RPG he looked through the sight lining up the first column and fired, the explosion was ringing through out the area, followed by a moment of silence...
