chaosshade, the dietary problem for your planned adventure is even worse than you realize. In the game, stalkers can carry 3 types of food, bread; diet sausage; and Travellers' Delight. In the game, stalkers can only eat 2 types of food, bread; and diet sausage. Stalkers cannot eat Travellers' Delight as the cans used are ones that require a can opener to open, and there are no can openers at all in the game.

Pssshaw... civilized folk... can openers...
It's called a knife. And I've done it before. Even though it takes five minutes to do.

It's an overestimate, although I was going for the clean factor and am hardly an expert at opening cans with knives.

True, but in the game, whilst a knife takes no damage from use, RL it does. There are no whetstones in the game for resharpening a knife, and there are no repair capabilities in the game. So would you want to wear out or break your backup weapon on a food can? And in game, don't forget, you can only have 1 knife. No replacements for it are available. Jenifur Charne

Well, by practical theory, even if Chaos (or anyone else here for that matter), were only to have one knife (a good one, though), it should last them the length of their intended trip, for opening cans, at least. There's no rule dictating that a stalker cannot replace their knife upon leaving the Zone.
As for the 'backup weapon', somehow I highly doubt we'll be using knives to slay snorks and bloodsuckers, even if someone were to camp out in the Russian wilderness (although the probability of doing so would nevertheless increase dramatically in that case).

There's no rule dictating that a stalker cannot replace their knife upon leaving the Zone. Fair points, and since the knife you do get in game is one from Wolf, I somehow doubt that an experienced stalker like him would carry low quality crud or give such crud to a rookie being sent out on a SAR job. Quite indeed. Though the knife does make for an excellent stealthy takedown weapon on light to medium armored enemies. Until I realized that the 3 stalkers near some bushes near the bandit held autopark were friendlies, I used max crouch to approach the one with his back almost in the bushes from his rear, keeping out of his sight all the while. Got the timing down pat to do a short sprint in and kill on him without him even having time to either stand up, or complain that someone was in his detect range with a weapon out. The other 2 I then lured into the drain tunnel under the road, and I used the dumped UAZ-469 as cover. Headshots on those 2 ended the brief engagement, then I looted the three corpses. Jenifur Charne

Well then, consensus is that Chaos is good to go, as long as he brings a good knife with him.

When you get injured, smash a bandage/medkit against your face, that should make you good as new.
When drinking vodka, you drink the whole bottle in one gulp.
No sleeping.
Every time you see a gust of wind blow, throw a bolt.

Also - If you are not falling down from exhaustion, it would be beneficial to sprint at all times.

Exhaustion? No, that's what the energy drinks are for . . . as soon as you feel ready to collapse, down a whole energy drink and keep right on going.
Also - just a reminder with the vodka . . . drink as much as you like. No matter how many freight shipments of vodka you drink, you'll never get so drunk you pass out . . .

You guys (and possibly a girl) [NO WOMEN IN THE ZONE!] are funny.
I still have to find some code that fixes the registration process to a one-gender option...

Well the knife has those serrations on the back, I'm sure you could use them in a jiffy as can openers. There are some pretty well abandoned places in rural America. You just have to go where the streets all start with "County Road." Abandoned places, empty barns, paranoid country folk (but good-natured, if you stay humble), dangerous mutants (well, animals at least)... trust me, don't stumble on a sleeping deer in the dark, they kick like mules. With very narrow hooves.
